  1. Between the new bases, the emphasis on balks, and the pitch clock, Manfred really wants to prioritize stealing bases. I bet the ball is gonna be as dead as a 16-inch softball. Zzzzzzzzzzzz
  2. They want to contend this year. If they are on track to win 75 games at the deadline, they'll move him as part of a massive sell-off.
  3. Love this trade for the Marlins. Puk will be a useful pitcher in some role. Bleday maybe figures it out, but there’s a solid chance he’s a 4-A guy.
  4. I may be less likely to watch the games he pitches. Never cared for the guy.
  5. Bilous going to Cleveland may be exactly what he needs. He didn't seem to be getting better with the Sox. Shaw seems like a person who is breathing.
  6. Cleveland is deeper than everyone but the Dodgers probably. They are interesting in that they hold on to EVERYBODY until all hope vanishes and their value is close to nil and then dump them. Benson and Nolan Jones are good examples of guys they could have gotten something significant for but did not trade while their value was there. They never accidentally trade Tatis Jr. But they also never get one of those Stars for a bunch of warm bodies trades either. Unusual strategy.
  7. That is hilarious. They use his pic to drive traffic and then say nothing.
  8. I think these predictions are in the right ballpark. The various possible outcomes around that number may be +/-10 games. So if everything goes right, 93-95 wins. If everything goes horribly wrong 73-75. I think Vegas is more optimistic about the Sox than most of this board is.
  9. I am the low man on Bilous so May not be much of a cost here. Still, I would prefer them trying to get anyone they thought could start.
  10. Yeah, it's unlikely. That said, necessity is the mother of invention. The Sox are so short in starter depth that there are going to be a bunch of spot starts/bullpen days. Even if they stay relatively healthy, Davis Martin is in line to make 10+ starts. If he makes the team, I think they would give a couple of short starts to Avila. I could see Crochet getting Kopech ala 2021 4 and 5 inning starts. Who else is gonna take the starts? Stiever? Bilous? Burke? On the Sox site, they're talking up Dominguez. I mean, at this point never say never about anyone.
  11. Agreed. The service time obsession for a latter half of the Top 100 prospect who will be 31 in his first free agent year is misplaced. In addition to being ethically dubious, gaming the system over Colas's service time hurts you in 2023, which is supposed to be a contending year, to maybe help you in 2030, by which time the current core will all be gone.
  12. You can't leave the bench with 3 players anyway. Rules say 13 pitchers, 13 position players. 6 man rotation means a 7 man pen, which could work.
  13. Eloy played right a lot in the minors. Even if he starts taking better routes, he does not have the arm for it. Let’s hope this is a motivational tool to get Eloy to stay in shape. With no Abreu, this lineup needs like 550 PA from Eloy.
  14. They are moving Mr. Chisholm to centerfield. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/marlins-to-move-jazz-chisholm-to-center-field.html
  15. I thought the return for Lopez was light for the Marlins. I get it, 3 years of control vs. 2, injury history, and Arraez is a batting champ, but he has no power and no defensive position. I like the trade for Minny.
  16. That’s disingenuous. I opposed getting Segura for Kimbrel (had no idea they were looking at Pollock) and I was not in favor of signing him, but Segura missed over a third of the season after getting hurt on a bunt. He’s better than Harrison.
  17. From 1990 to 2020, Sox are 10th, about average in international signings WAR. https://www.thegoodphight.com/2020/3/12/21175355/thirty-years-war-each-teams-international-signings That includes the period of all their troubles. I think their Latin operation is on the upswing. The real problem is poor drafting during the rebuild.
  18. Eh, the ups and downs are part of life. There’s a reason why people identify with Charlie Brown and why the Fat Elvis stamp beat the Skinny Elvis. Being a front runner is not all it’s cracked up to be. During the Bulls 6 Championships, people started to get bored. Plus, I can always turn off the TV and go for a walk.
  19. I think we may be seeing a valuation change due to the elimination of the shift. Teoscar Hernandez, Gurriel, and Moreno all hit RH. The two OF are not great out there. Varsho hits LH and gives you plus D. I understand ex as calypso what the Jays are thinking.
