More evidence of Chicago media turning on Ventura
AlSoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 3, 2015 -> 12:53 AM) I would completely agree with you except for one thing, which is why I see no reason to "blow this up" like many are saying. What I want to see out of the roster on a day-in and day-out basis, namely, solid, fundamental defense and situational hitting, is just nowhere close to occurring. I really don't care one way or another whether we win 80 games or 70 games this season. All I am asking is that this roster start showing signs of playing the kind of ball moving forward where with some additional tweaks and some development by the younger players, one can see scenarios where they compete for the division in the next 2-3 years. Unfortunately, we're seeing a bunch of sloppy bulls*** which basically negates the talent on our roster because we are giving away runs and outs on a daily basis with no sign of any progress being made whatsoever. For me, it's not about wins and losses; it's about the way we are playing which leads me to the same consistent conclusion. The coaching staff simply has to go. yep...yes an I agree -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 28, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) New ownership, new GM, new manager, new coaches, new scouts and new minor league director.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 07:30 PM) WHy do you keep wanting to dump Robertson? UNless you have someone ready and waiting, you don't need that black hole there. One thing to lose with young guys. It feels even worse when you consistently give up leads in the last 2 innings. No one seems to remember last yr. I think Robertson will be just fine and he's 1 guy I'd like to keep. The Laroche thing was just Rosenthal's idea, the Cards have made no mention to my knowledge so far of anything about LaRoche.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) To be fair though, the organization has not made much of an attempt to develop many hitters in the darft since 2010 here are the positions drafted in the first 5 rounds: 2015 - 3 Pitchers 2014 - 4 Pitchers - 1 Catcher (Austin) 2013 - 3 Pitchers - 1 SS (Anderson #1), 1 OF (May #13) 2012 - 2 Pitchers - 1 OF (Hawkins #8), 1 1B (Barnum #27), 1 2B (DeMichele), 1 SS Nick Basto 2011 - 4 Pitchers - 1 OF (Walker) 2010 - 5 Pitchers - 1 1B (Wilkins) So 21 pitchers and 9 position players drafted in that time span. Of the trades that have been made, the prospects that they have acquired have been: Samardzjia trade - 1 pitching prospect Gordon Beckham trade - 1 pitching prospect ADA trade - acquired 2 pitching prospects Adam Dunn trade - acquired 1 pitching prospect Jake Peavy trade - acquired 2 pitching prospects, 1 SS (Rondon #12) Jesse Crain trade - 1 pitching prospect, 1 3B prospect (Kline) Matt Thorntom trade - 1 OF prospect (Jacobs) Addison Reed trade - 1 3B prospect (Davidson #9) Jason Frasor trade - 2 pitching prospects Ozzie Guillen trade - 2 pitching prospects , 1 SS prospect (Martinez) Carlos Quentin trade - 2 pitching prospects Sergio Santos trade - 1 pitching prospect Scott Linebrink trade - 1 pitching prospect Thats 16 pitchers and 5 position players in trades in that time as well (not including ML ready players and spring training filler trades - true prospects) In all the Sox have added 37 pitchers to only 14 position players in the last five years in the top of draft or in trades. Of the 14 hitting prospects acquired - Kline, Wilkins, Jacobs, and Martinez are out of the org 6 of the remaining 10 are in the top 30 prospects. Yes guys like Walker and Barnum have been busts but they have made up for it by drafting guys like Michalzeski, Semien, and Johnson in the later rounds. Good info thanks

My view on managers in general- RV in particular
AlSoxfan replied to gosox41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Excellent org. post. I agree very much. The one constant in the past few yrs. has been the coaching staff and mgr. I would also include the coaches as well as mgr. If I remember right the coaches were brought in to help a rookie mgr. out. Maybe I'm old school but don't most mgrs. bring in at least a few of their own coaches? I also think at this point the team needs a butt kicking mgr. and no I don't mean one who screams at the players in the dugout. Maybe the players will get the idea. This is a much better team then what we've been seeing. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) The Sox aren't trading Sale. If they traded someone Quintana would be the guy they moved and Boston would make a lot of sense as the team getting him. Something like Q for Christian Vasquez, Rafael Devers ++. Devers (or some of our own prospects) could be parlayed into a 3B or SS. The Sox are going to need to fill these offensive holes somehow and it's probably going to come from moving a starter or Danish/Montas. The problem being Danish and Montas aren't going to provide the type of positional upside Quintana could. Agreed and the answer is No we could not get proper value for Sale at this time

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) I still don't think Beckham is a MLB starter. He's technically a platoon player this year that has to produce to keep being inserted into the lineup. The same can be said early in his career - once he was handed a starting job, he started to playing bad. Hope he keeps it up though. I agree
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:37 AM) I think Q is the key. I agree w LDF that Danks will only bring salary relief. Shark brings a return but he is a short term rental and as such might bring 1 player back in return. I think Q can bring a couple of players back that could hopefully fill some holes. But that opens a rotation spot and if you don't sign shark it means 2 next year. I was hoping the Sox could offer Q to Boston since they needed a lefty starter and always have a bunch of prospects available. But they called up a young lefty who has thrown 2 straight wins so I think they need to find another trade partner. I've often wondered about trading Q but his contract is pretty good and we'd have to replace him with who??? with him we kinda know what we're getting and at a good price, but still for the right offer?? Shark has disappointed me so far an if need be I'd trade him at the deadline. Unless he really turns it around I don't think he'll be getting any 100+ million$ offers but who knows in today's market.

I like these..Thanks for the updates

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Montas, Hawkins and Davidson would probably be the highest I'd go/still be comfortable giving. Maybe throw in Sanburn or another reliever type arm. I just want to hold onto Danish, Anderson and Adams as badly as possible. Adams is one I would keep. I just think he's gonna be a really good pitcher for us
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) That seems like a very weak package for a solid player. Decent chance there's not a major leaguer amongst that package. I would agree
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) wow, i was being a little snarky but i guess you may be right. that would really put the sox in a bind. then the domino effect. nhl draft. the sox draft ss-maritn or ss-newman. If you believe Anderson will become a top 5 SS yes it would put the sox in an awkward bind, but I don't. I also think Lucroy would make our pitching staff better an his hitting is pretty good as well. He's still in his prime so we'd have a decent catcher for at least a few years baring injury. It's a pipe dream at best but a move I would make if I could an just my 2 cents.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) anderson, hawkins and a minor league sp??? More if needed..I will say I'm not an Anderson believer so yes for whom I believe to be the best catcher in baseball in Lucroy
-
I'm not sure if Lucruy is available but he's 1 player I'd give a boatload to get

I'm of the view that the Sox aren't really this bad

QUOTE (VAfan @ May 31, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) Fortunately for my sanity, I haven't been watching these first 49 games that closely. They have certainly been putrid, especially on offense. But that actually gives me cause for optimism. - We're only 3 games under .500. - The Minnesota Twins are in first place, and lead us by only 7 games. - The AL East is led by two teams that are each only 1 game over .500. - The AL West second place team is only 2 games over .500 - There are only 3 AL teams more than 5 games above .500 - In other words, we are within 3 games of all but 4 teams in the AL, and 5 teams make the playoffs - The offense CAN'T remain THIS BAD. Eaton, Melky, Abreu, LaRoche, Alexei, Gillaspie, Flowers, Soto. ALL have hit better than this. - The only guy who is possibly overachieving is Avisail, and who's to say he can't get better? - The starting pitching is starting to come around - Chris Sale threw a masterpiece against Baltimore. He's not going to finish with an ERA in the mid-3s. He seems to be past the setback from missing spring training. - Samardzija is not going to end up with an ERA closer to 4 than 3. - Quintana may still be the unluckiest starter in baseball, but his ERA in the 4s is not where it's going to end up. - Carlos Rodon is now in the rotation, and is likely to give us a lot of good starts - John Danks just pitched his first shutout since 2011, and looks capable of pitching at least as well as last year, when he was a .500 pitcher. - The bullpen can pitch better than it has. And we may have reinforcements coming at some point this year. - Our expected W-L is 19-30, but we're 4 games better than that. Not sure if that's good or bad, but I'm taking it as a good sign, since we are maximizing the return on the performance we're getting. If I were the Sox brass, I wouldn't be planning on making any kind of fire sale. I would stay the course, and expect the team to shake itself out of its offensive doldrums. When it does, the starting pitching and bullpen could still let the team get on a roll. One 8-2 stretch would put us 3 games over .500, which would rank us 5th in the AL. This is a very different team than last year. Melky, LaRoche, Garcia (who didn't play much last season), Soto, Sanchez/Johnson, Beckham at 3rd, Bonafacio, Shuck -- all are new. Samadzija, Rodon, Duke, Robertson, Jennings, Albers (DL) are all new. That's more than half of the roster. It's far too soon to throw in the towel, just 49 games in. Let's see what happens through the All Star break. I hope Hahn is looking to improve, not cut and run. GO SOX!! nice post an all true..our main goal should be in winning games against our central rivals. I still believe in this team even though fundamentals don't look so good -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ May 30, 2015 -> 05:04 PM) Avoid signing career NL players. My defense of LaRoche is he has to adjust to a new league of pitchers. Frank Thomas..I would guess but I really liked Crede

I'm a baseball fan first an foremost. My favorite team is the Chi. White Sox an has been since the early 60's and will always be my team. I've seen a lot over the years. The worst team I think I ever saw was the 2013 White sox and I watched 158 games so I guess I could be called a die-hard fan. I have not given up on this team this yr. but boy it gets hard when you have expectations of a better team. I believe the entire coaching staff an a few others should be sent packing but know it'll never happen.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) Of course they will want and expect a haul. More likely to want to trade the Cheater, I'm sure. But they need a whole lot, so it wouldn't shock if they moved him. They need to rebuild completely. Could go either way. If they're a distant third to Nats/Mets in mid June, they'll be selling - Loria seems emotional and panic-driven. Lucroy would be a dream but why do you call him a cheater?

Cain accuses Shark of intentional plunking
AlSoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think he was just pitching inside to reclaim the outside of the plate. If he he him oh well shucks, get off the plate or get hit again. -
QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) There are so many ways this team is better. Here are 15 random points. 1. Samardzija is taking the spot of Scott Carroll and Rienzo and some other dogs we trotted out. 2. Sale is unlikely to get used for 127 pitches in a game and land on the DL. 3. Q in the 3 hole will face weaker competition, turning many of his no decisions into wins. 4. We actually have a closer. And a lefty 8th inning guy. 5. The revamped bullpen, while likely to be a work-in-progress early on, could make a 10-game difference on it's own. 6. The top 4 hitters all get on base at a .350 clip or above. 7. LaRoche has about the same power as Dunn, but with a much better average, and far fewer K's. 8. Abreu is in the conversation for being the best hitter in baseball. 9. Avisail Garcia is going to be a MONSTER, and will really help the offense click. 10. We have a quality backup catcher who might be better than the starter. 11. The infield D could be a little shaky outside of SS, but we have defensive subs for all those spots. 12. Micah Johnson has to be a ton better than what we got out of 2B last year, and if he isn't, we have plenty of options. 13. No more Dayan Viciedo defensive lapses in the outfield. 14. We have Carlos Rodon available as soon as mid-April if we need him. 15. We have other minor league guys who might help us late. I'm not sure it will all come together right out of the gate, but I think this team will click at some point and be very solid. Well said and the reasons why I picked us for 90 wins

Yea I like this team. I guess I'm a rah rah kinda guy and not fond of all the doom an gloom stuff, although I find my way there sometimes. I like what Hahn has done with this team an like others have said the bullpen will make a big difference. I can see everyone on the team replicating last yrs. stats at least with some showing improvements. I'd like to think we'll win the division.
