  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 08:25 AM) Dombrowski says that they aren't talking to Scherzer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he returns to Detroit. That's another reason why I want the Sox to sign him. If he joins our rotation, the Sox would be consensus picks to win the Division. If Detroit signs him, they are still the team to beat. The Sox don't have a single big long term, expensive contract. That's the one that would put them over the top. I can't see the Sox signing Scherzer (not that I wouldn't love it) and then extending Shark as well..Thats gotta be 50 mil for 2 pitchers an we'd still need a corner outfielder.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) with the trades that LAD did yesterday, does anyone think that there still might be a trade with chi? I don't think so, at least not with Danks for one of their outfielders.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Bonifacio can't hit - he had one decent hitting year out of 8 ML seasons. Terrible. I'd prefer Danks to him. Aoki isn't a good defender. Rasmus is kind of a head case; no feel for his defense. Ichiro can't hit. Dom Brown is a worse defender than Vic. I was for that swap until the Sox signed their DH. Looks like Carl Crawford stands tall against this bunch. Lillian's Ethier would look okay. I was under the impression that Aoki was a very good defender. What am I missing?
  4. Well I got a Longo bobble head I'll throw in Got it when the White Sox were in town..Sale pitched an took the loss by the way
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 05:38 PM) For all the hype that the Samardzija trade received, I really feel like Robertson will have the biggest actual impact on the team. I know we've talked about the blown saves from last year, but it really seems like there were a significant number of 2 and 3 run leads blown from the 8th inning on. Hopefully Robertson can turn those blown games into wins. I very much agree an I was big on us getting Shark, but like you think Robertson could have a bigger impact for us
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:11 PM) I'd be surprised if the Rays did the hypothetical deal I concocted. They would never do it if it were Myers instead of DeJesus. Just kidding really. The whole things a pipe dream IMO. but one never knows
  7. You can count me out on Volquez. I think both our 4 an 5 starters are better than him. I guess I'm wondering why Hahn would be interested in him at all unless he's got a trade going with someone for Danks. I still think we could do better than Volquez though.
  8. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) I didn't pay much attention to Samardzija when he was on the Northside, but he is incredibly likable in interviews. Smart, insightful guy. Thats nice to hear and hopefully a good clubhouse kinda guy. Might need another guy to poke Gilli every so often...lol
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) Ravelo will be ready in 2015 or 2016, if he is ever ready. LaRoche is around through 2016, and by then, numerous other prospects will make their way through the system. Barnum for one, and also remember lots of failed prospects at other positions become 1B's. Ravelo was blocked. If the Sox make a QO to Shark after the season and he turns it down, the Sox get one comp pick, not from anyone but created out of thin air. I'm curious to know, when you say 1 comp pick created out of thin air. How do they decide who picks first in the comp picks? I guess I always thought it would be in the order from whoever signed your player.
  10. Very nice thread... Thanks and good Luck in Oakland Chris
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) Without looking it up, tell me which 2014 line was John Danks, and which was Hector Noesi: 4.75 ERA (4.83 FIP), 6.42 K/9, 2.92 BB/9, 1.46 HR/9, 38% GB (0.6 fWAR) 4.74 ERA (4.76 FIP), 5.99 K/9, 3.44 BB/9, 1.16 HR/9, 42% GB (0.8 fWAR) Actually, don't bother. I already forget which one is which because they're basically the same. If John Danks is unacceptable, Hector Noesi is also unacceptable. Rodon's ETA is not guaranteed, nor is his instant dominance when he does arrive. The best remaining options behind these two are Andre Rienzo and Eric Surkamp. Chris Beck? This team needs another arm. Very good point. We're very slim on starting pitchers. If someone should get hurt we'll be in big trouble. 1 more starter would be nice and maybe move Noesi to the pen. Who would be the question and at what cost? I'm thinking a 1 yr. contract would be enough to get us through till the young guys get more time in the minors. I kinda liked Masterson because he'd be more willing to sign for 1 yr. but there may be others. I still feel our biggest need right now is a corner outfielder and with little money left..???
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 12:53 PM) I'd be ecstatic if the Sox got either. I wonder if a bigger trade with Quintana involved would get it done. I don't know why the Rays are looking to make these trades though. Their rotation is still awesome with Moore, Cobb, Smyly, Archer, Ordrizzi and Nate Karns, who I think has a great arm, as insurance. Something huge like Quintana, Anderson, Gillaspie, Viciedo, Beck and Hawkins for Longo, DeJesus and Odorizzi. We can dream right? CF Eaton LF DeJesus 1B Abreu 3B Longoria DH LaRoche RF Garcia SS Alexei C Flowers 2B Sanchez/Johnson Thats a good lookin lineup, but swap Myers for DeJesus and we got a deal.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) i am old fart and do not know the advance stats and all. i am old school. #1 get on base, #2, move him over, let #1 cause havoc on the base path, lead off, steal a base. #3,4,5 let them hit away. btw imo the best hitter is always been #3. Thank you an I agree. I do remember when they put Fisk in the 2 spot an he had one of his best yrs. ever hitting there.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) Longoria is married to a Playmate. Ten years ago, the White Sox acquired Scott Podsednik, who also is married to a Playmate, and immediately won the World Series. Therefore, it is imperative the White Sox acquire Evan Longoria, so that they can immediately win another WS. I also understand that he happens to be kinda good at baseball, which can only be deemed a bonus. sounds perfectly reasonable to me..I'm in
  15. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Okay we'll just do a 3way trade, chris sale to boston, boston sends boaegarts and owens here and tampa sends myers and longoria here, while tampa gets 2 top 20 prospects from boston and we send viciedo and danks. lif_shatz would jizz all over his screen. Edit:color Can't we send Sale to Tampa instead an send TankNDank to Boston. I'm not very fond of Boston an I live in Tampa now
  16. Wow, Longoria..dream time. I've learned never say never as I never thought the Sox would sign Robertson but I can't see this ever happening. The cost would be just about all our top farm team plus a few others.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) i am pretty sure the pen will look like this lol
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) I think it's extremely unlikely Rodon has any shot of pitching his way onto the roster in spring training. The fact that he's never pitched more than 130 innings in a season ought to have told us that anyway, even if he'd made the roster we'd be in the "do we shut him down now" mess. I don't think this should change the plans for him at all. He starts in AA/AAA, pitches as a starter, comes up if there's an injury or when he's clearly ready, better than everyone down there, and better than whatever we have in slots 4/5 in the rotation. That's what I said a month+ ago and all this does is make it harder for him to have a spot. I agree
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) Disagree with that. How many blown saves did they have last year? I'm not a fan of the "save" stat but what it says about last year's team is that they lost a lot of games late that they should have won. Robertson and Duke alone will improve this. Now add JS and RV won't need to go to the pen, let alone inferior pen talent as often, and you get to .500. I don't think they are a favorite for a playoff spot yet but they are getting close to competing for it. I agree, although I might be a little more enthusiastic right now. The Robertson signing surprised me and I think will help a bunch. I'm not sure about others but I'm ready to watch some White Sox baseball right now. A corner OF would be nice of course but I'm pretty happy with how things have turned out so far.
  20. Wow..I'm really liking this..Thanks Mr. Hahn
  21. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) This is going to sound cocky and it's really not meant to be, but honestly since Magglio, or to a degree Crede, who is the last White Sox position player to come up through the White Sox farm system and contribute in a meaningful way for multiple seasons? I know someone has to do it eventually, but until proven otherwise, I have a hard time getting too attached to White Sox position prospects. I'm fine dealing Anderson as well, I just think he has more value than Samardzija right now. Big Frank is the last that I can remember
  22. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:09 PM) Would not be surprised if Reddick is part of a proposed deal. Reddick and Shark's 2015 salaries would still allow the Sox enough money to go after Robertson to save games on t south side. Plus Reddick would shift Avi over to LF. Reddick is an upgrade over Avi in RF and Avi is an upgrade over Tank in LF, win win. got my fingers crossed for all of this to happen
  23. I thought Hahn has said he wouldn't be interested in guys like this. He might just be checking things out or maybe just blowing smoke. On the other hand he might be looking to trade a couple guys (Montas???)for someone else an would then be short bp arms. In any case I'd like to have Robertson closing for us.
  24. Thanks for the link..Levine really seemed to be pushing for Samardzija...lol KW seems to think there will be a lot of action soon. Hope thats good news for us
