So when we're right around .500 in July, what do we do?
Bob Sacamano replied to ChiSoxJon's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jan 31, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Sox have a lot of talent that can net a lot of return (Sale, Abreu, Frazier, Eaton, Quintana, Lawrie, Melky, Robertson) but are in MLB's toughest division with an under achieving cast year after year. If this doesn't change a fire sale should be in discussion as B/R pointed out, saying White Sox are next time to undergo full rebuild. If Sox do start rebuilding yet again this summer, who stays, who goes, and what is the return? Let's hope this isn't where we're headed. I don't think they would do a full rebuild til at least summer of 2017 in my opinion. But if I had to guess who would get moved if things are bad this summer: maybe a couple relievers, one of the catchers (if they're producing), Danks if a team wants rotation depth for a couple months (looking at a team like the Dodgers or Cardinals if there are injuries to their rotations). -
Why trade multiple prospects instead of just giving up one future prospect that the draft pick is?
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 06:43 PM) Only the Mets, maybe. But the Sox should predict that and should have signed Price or Greinke. Cardinals as well as they experience it every year and still do well.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 06:23 PM) Yes they do. Sardinas should be able to keep the SS position warm until Arcia is ready. Scratch that. I just realized he got traded to the Mariners at some point this offseason.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) I feel like signing Fowler now and losing the pick is panic move in my book. They struck out and had no other choice. Honestly at this point I think I'd rather just keep the top 30 pick and payroll. I wouldn't say panic move but definitely something they may have already anticipated having to do if they missed out on big 3. There were plenty of options afterall.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) Read where Levine said the Cubs might trade Coghlan instead of Soler if they get Fowler And then just work a rotating outfield/catcher of Montero, Schwarber, Fowler, Soler, Heyward? Or move someone early in the season as well.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) I did not think AZ would find a team willing to trade for Hill. Still yet, I like the deal from the Brewers perspective. I know Diaz is young but he mashed rookie ball pretty well. It def makes sense for rebuilding teams to take on expensive soon to be done deals as long as they get some prospects/young controllable players. I like it from their standpoint as well. Do they still have Sardinas? I assume he would play short.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) Seems like they have to get rid of either Ethier or Crawford, unless they send Trayce back to minors, which they probably won't since he can play CF. So can Enrique Hernandez and Ethier (maybe not great buy they still plugged him in there).

Ventura: LaRoche will have to earn his spot in Spring Training

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Robin platooned him the last two months of last season. I don't see why he wouldn't do it again, especially if we pick up Fowler/Jackson and kick Avi out of RF. With the current roster, who would you platoon him with? Sands? Olt? -
There's really nothing wrong with giving him a shot in spring training. It's not like they've guaranteed him a spot in the rotation. Everyone take a step back from the ledge.

Here's a very good solution for dh/bench

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 08:04 AM) I think they will still keep k***' just because he's so cheap and so valuable as a utility guy. Gerrero and Van Slyke are the guys I can't see a spot for. I would take either 1, but isn't Guerrero automatically a FA if traded or something like that? Van Slyke makes a lot of sense for both sides in my opinion. Can't what they would want for him, but doubt it would be much. If he's traded he can opt out after this year but that still doesn't mean they can't trade him or re-work the deal prior if the player is willing. Van Slyke I think is a good bench option for them since he can take at bats from lefties (Ethier, Crawford, Gonzalez). If I had to predict their bench, I'd guess: Back up catcher Hernandez IF/OF Utley 1B/2B/3B Van Slyke 1B/OF (may be a good trade piece though) Ethier (assuming Puig starts. If traded, then Thompson) Thompson and Micah in the minors if they have options left. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 11:04 PM) Definitely the college guys that are superstar quality get there a year or two later than the ARods, Harpers, Trouts and Correas. You can also blame PED's, it wouldn't have been the case 5-6 years ago that there was the prevailing assumption most players would be pretty much done at 34-36. You also have to consider this phenomenon as only screwing over Morales, Drew, Desmond (more his fault for rejecting original extension before last year)...and Gallardo/Fowler. You're not talking a massive amount of players. I do remember it working against Orlando Cabrera as well when KW and Ozzie basically pushed him off the 2009 team through the media. Compensation for free agents is likely going to be gone very soon anyway. Steve Stone was on that csn show yesterday evening and thinks it's really stupid which I tend to agree with.
-
QUOTE (StillMissOzzie @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 01:56 AM) After reading about the offer that Ian Desmond declined, he should go kick his agent's ass every day for the next seven years. It's one thing to turn down a QO, but what Desmond said no to is just stupid with a capital S. SMO Well if he had another regular Ian Desmond year he probably could have gotten more money. But yes in hindsight it sucks for him.

I don't think he's the odd man out in LA. I think they end up moving Guerrero this spring. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) Marcus Sem-ian desmond jennings Really trying to expand on this but I don't think there is anyone with a first name "Jennings" or last name of "Marcus" unfortunately.
-
QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) Big Time. For the first time we saw players taking QO. Think in future many more older players begin to take. "In the future" this likely won't be the case at all and teams won't get compensation for free agents.

Soooo no follow up to this?
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 06:22 PM) BPA who at their selection, esp in the early rounds were probably pitchers. can someone ask if they think Fulmer is a SP or a RP ????? Of course they would say starter. He's a starter until he fails.
-
QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) Ian Desmond Jennings? Haha I was a bit confused about why that was posted in here.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) Crazy to see Longoria not on this list. Says a lot about the young 3B in the league. Hadn't even occurred to me until you pointed that out.
-
Carpenter is definitely underrated.
-
Will a radio station be covering this around 4:30? That's when I get off work and it usually takes me about 45 mins to get home. Would like to listen.
-
Probably a one day contract to retire with the team.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) Jennings possible trade chip. Lots of teams linked to him already. I could see Loney potentially moved too.
-
How many OF/DH does Tampa need? Loney, Morrison, Jennings, Kiermaier, Souza Jr, and now Dickerson. Plus it sounds like Brad Miller will see some time in the OF (depending on what else they do at short).
