  1. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) Who's the next Ken Griffey Jr. / Manny Ramirez? (In relation to White Sox) You mean who's the next past their prime, old slugger that we're gonna pick up? Not sure.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) I don't think Hernandez will be anything too special at the MLB level. He really doesn't have the power to be a corner outfielder. He was rated as just the 16th best Cuban prospect and you can expect reasonably a .150 to .200 point drop in his OPS in translating to MLB. If he drops into the low .700s level, like I think he will, he better play dang good defense to have much value at all. Baseball Prospectus compared his skill set to Daniel Nava. Agree on all accounts. Let's get Jackson.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 06:12 AM) Frankly, I think most, if not all food at any sports/entertainment venue is overpriced, but it tastes so good that I don't care. Fixed.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) Then why did they take on Swisher and Bourn's contracts in the trade with Cleveland? Because they took on 2 bad contracts with one year left for a guy with 2 years left. Wanted to get out of bad money quicker.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) very good idea. i haven't thought of him. i agree. I've been on the Raburn train for a while. Perfect fit with LaRoche.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) I could see the Sox going with a 6 man rotation early on to keep Sale/Q/Rodon fresh for a potential postseason run. No offense, but I really don't.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) I think Latos ends up the Sox #3 starter to break up the lefties. I'm thinking we'll see an opening day rotation of Sale, Q, Latos, Rodon, Danks. I admit that I'm optimistic Latos will be healthy to start the season and Cooper will be helpful to Latos. Latos has some nasty stuff and I think a pitching coach like Cooper is the kind of coach a guy like Latos needs to get back on track. Plus, the Sox are good at keeping players healthy. As for Jackson, his CF defense would be a huge improvement. Even if the Sox stuck with Eaton in CF, Jackson's glove in RF is light years better than Avi's. No matter where you plug Latos in, you have 4 lefties in a row.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Come on guys, were talking about trying to upgrade Avi, a high impact bat would be nice but not necessary to make the improvement. Agree. I'll take anyone.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) then neither is Fowler or Austin Jackson I know and I'm not arguing they are. So I agree I guess. Someone mentioned how it doesn't seem they want to add a higher impact bat (opposed to names we've seen tossed out) and I'm just saying we don't really have the pieces taking out our 2 best to get a high impact bat.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) wasn't it said that the sox had extra pen pitchers that they could one or two of them. Yeah but a lot of deals people thrown out are around: reliever for Desmond Jennings. I wouldn't call Desmond Jennings a high impact bat.
  11. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) That is probably true, but they do have SOME pieces to use in a deal: a) one of Putnam, Petricka, Webb, Jennings/Phillips; b) one of Adams, Eric Johnson or Chris Beck; c) lower level minor leaguer. Is that enough to get ANYONE? Am not sure, which leads me to believe that the best course of action is either Austin Jackson or to do nothing and wait to see what position the team is in near the trade deadline. I don't think those pieces necessarily get you a "high impact" bat.
  12. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) Piecing together Rosenthal's report w/ Nightengale's & Bucket's, it sure seems like the Sox are either going to trade for a bat or be done... I almost get the feeling if it's a trade, it won't be a high impact one, either. Somewhat disappointed they don't seem to be wanting to add a higher impact bat but can't say I'm overly surprised. If you take out Fulmer and Anderson, they don't have the pieces to get a high impact bat.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) If Jackson became a White Sox, I would be happy. Yet another guy with hardly any chatter, and he has no QO offer. Boras is a magician with contracts, but sometimes his players get burned. Jackson seems to be heading that way. Agree. I'd be pleased.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) The idea that improving the team's victory total from 59 to 61 or 62 wins and a pick outside of the Top 2-3 might not be worth the risk/return of signing Jackson with the principal idea of trading him again. And Boras won't give the Brewers any kind of discount. Other than Braun and Garza, who are they spending on? I'm sure they can afford to pay him for half a season.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 17, 2016 -> 06:22 AM) nice thinking. i like it. the problem i have in that thought process, the brewers are rebuilding, i really don't think they will take on extra salary. plus they may want that extra ticks higher in the following yr draft. that ticks may be comprise if they signed jackson. this is my opinion only. Jackson doesn't cost a pick so idk what that has to do with the draft.
  16. I think Jackson will sign with Milwaukee. They didn't have a true CF on their team and moved Davis which means Braun and and Santana will be the corners. Jackson can be a trade candidate in June/July for them.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Taking a look at the 40-man, I actually don't see any obvious guys to dump -- there are guys EYE would dump, but I assume the Sox might/probably like them as much or more than Nolin. Here are the potentials that jumped out: OF Jerry Sands IF Leury Garcia OF Daniel Fields SP Scott Carroll SP Brandon Brennan RP Tommy Kahnle RP Zach Phillips RP Michael Ynoa You didn't list Olt as well but him Sands and Fields are probably 3. Carroll is another one who would probably clear waivers.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) The 40 man roster is finally full, which means if they want to bring in another major leaguer, they would have to cut an additional player if they made a claim like this. As to the player, If the Sox see something they can alter, I have no problem with it. Plenty of garbage on the 40 they can dfa.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) News: Please happen soon. I beg of you Seriously.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) i am just trying to think about this, can this move be a minor league move, to help in the minors???? i am just trying to figure this one out. Ishikawa signing? Mostly because Charlotte needs to field a team too.
  21. Ike Davis signed with the Rangers on a minor league deal. Woulda been more interested in him on a minor league deal instead of Ishikawa but oh well.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) i don't know the rules on this one, can the sox, if latos does rebound, offer his a QO next yr??? Yes they can.
  23. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) Is Melky on strike 3? Or has he only been caught once? I think it's once. Will check later when I get home from work but I'm sure someone else will post before then.
