  1. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Yep. Rooting for one's favorite sports team should be a hobby, and nothing more. Especially if you work, have a spouse, and have kids. Yeah definitely more important s*** to worry about in life. If how the Sox are doing is your biggest worry, you don't have many problems/issues.
  2. Will there be a separate thread for the draft when it is live on Thursday with the first post being updated for each selection? I will be busy around the time the draft starts and would like to follow along during the end of my work day/commute on the train.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) Bingo. The games are entertainment, not life, death, or any of life's other problems. It is an escape from that. If it stresses you out, or angers you for any real period of time, you aren't getting out of it, what you should be getting out of it. Exactly.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 12:04 AM) I watched it then the one after it where Adi Wyner talked more extensively about pitch framing. Lets just say it made me smile when he finished up by saying he didn't think it was as important as other sabermetricians seem to think. I' ve argued many times that its flawed just from a common sense standpoint without a math background. I tend to agree. I think there are too many factors that skew a call to the point where it isn't just on the catcher like many on here try to blame it on our guys during games.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 05:19 PM) I think if you had a database you could run some vlookups off of with salary / war / etc all, there it would work and that includes a list of all players traded and received, etc. I'm not spending the time to do it, but theoritically a solid blog type piece from someone. There is some extent a difference between pre arb and post arb guys and the reality of what should be expected and clearly there is more value in a guy who puts up a higher WAR than two or three guys who equate that same total, but in general, I agree with your previous post. Theortically, best thing the Sox could have done is trade every positional prospect we had drafted over the past 15 years...only upside QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) God I hate that Excel function. I wish it wasn't so useful. I have a finance degree and have worked a finance and now accounting job...I know your pain.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) Honest question - its obvious you have so much hatred for the White Sox - why don't you just give up caring, or find another team to cheer on? Again, honest question - no sport/hobby should make you as miserable as you appear to be towards the Sox, so why spend so much time loathing over it?
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) If that is what those guys "cost", than I'd argue the trade isn't a no brainer since we are paying "what they cost" plus giving up assets. While Tatis is a long-shot, he is still a very talented long-shot for his age and someone we committed valuable international FA resources to and who has received pretty positive early reviews. I don't consider that a nobody. If it was just Johnson, I'd have less to complain about, but Tatis was what this org had to make strides on (actually getting meaningful contributions from its international front and while he was 5 years down the road, it takes a long time to do things like this) and it takes time to build up a system (something we continue to not do). And this is coming from someone who is all for leveraging prospects for trading and filling other needs. And they will sign many other players similar to Tatis in a month.
  8. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 12:24 PM) I wonder if one of the reason they got Shields is possible trade bait before the deadline. I don't think so but if they did decide to sell he would at least be a cheaper innings eater option than before for a team.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) We are just a grand slam away from the lead The tough part is getting three guys on base in an inning.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) I still don't know how much Hahn is hamstrung by Kenny and Jerry. Maybe Hahn does suck too, but I'd certainly like to see what Hahn can do without Kenny there. f*** it. Fire em all.
  11. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) Ventura didn't even want the job..... That's true too. He had to be convinced to take it. Like what the flying f***.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) We will now be 0-6 in last 6 division games. Just unreal Sox can't drive a run in from 3rd and 2 out runs given up the last 5 years collectively. 1-9 in last 10 if you go a bit further. Edit: actually 0-9 in last 9.
  13. Turned it off. It's too nice of a day to waste watching this trash.
  14. Bunting with 2 outs lmao swing the f***ing bat
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) Is anyone going to be surprised when we pick up Carl Crawford and make him the full-time DH/LFer at some point this week...? Then everyone will say KW finally got his man, albeit five years too late. After ten days when he's released, I would not be at all shocked to see him signed for league minimum.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) The offseason was fine. The additions were solid. If Abreu were playing like his usual self, this team would be in first place. It's that simple. Yep and imagine if we trade for another bat whole Abreu gets it going.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) So I just realized that this makes our 2017 and 2018 rotations: Sale Quintana Shields Rodon Fulmer Sign me up! Assuming Fulmer pans out/isn't part of a trade for a controllable bat, yes.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) I think the big takeaway here is just how worthless Sands is. He's literally a backup platoon DH who can't even get playing time when we're down two OFs. Rick Hahn please get his ass off this roster. But he plays first base (terribly)!/green.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) I wonder how many (if any) MLB teams other than us would sport a deadly Rollins/Sands combination on their 25-man roster. Along with Garcia and Shuck in the mix for playing time. Yuck.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) This is the one way the Sox can hold on to both pitchers. This is roster management. Not true. Gonzalez has an option left (options are good for a full season). Unless you meant just on the 25-man roster in general than yes it is.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 07:26 AM) $27 million isn't nothing, and he is signed for the next 2 seasons as well. The Sox also have LaRoches money to play with, which they didn't when the others were a available. If he sucks, this will be a bit of a drain. If he can be a solid #4 starter, it isn't a lot of money in today's game. The Padres still will be paying him more than the Sox. I wonder what the breakdown is in Padres payments to the Sox, as far as what per season. According to Dan Hayes, Sox pay: 2016: $5 million 2017: $10 million 2018: $10 million And then $2 million buyout. Makes sense that we would have to cover this. I assume Padres would pay the rest of the salary for each year. To put things into perspective, Danks is making $15.75 million this season according to Baseball Reference.
  22. Even if Eaton is a great RF, if Jackson is out I'd still rather have him in center as he's the next best option for center.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:59 PM) Not bad. Let's call it $7M this year, and $10M in 17 and 18. That ain't bad for James Shields. Less than half of what he's due. I assume we'd pay the buyout. Maybe 7, 9, 9, and then the 2 mill buyout?
  24. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Sources: The minor leaguers the Padres are getting for Shields are Fernando Tatis Jr. and Erik Johnson. https://twitter.com/sdutdennislin/status/739196163723694080 No bad...but let's hear the confirmation on the money part.
  25. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 4, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Another strikeout for Rollins Time to hang them up.
