  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) I'm going to go to that as well. I'd rather go to the Saturday Game because it's probably a Chris Sale start. Hell yeah...and much cheaper tickets and about half the people.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeyman 1m1 minute ago Jimmy Rollins gets 2M in majors. No incentives but some award bonuses (100K MVP, 25K gold glove, 15K silver slugger, etc) Let's hope he gets those incentives!
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) I take it you're thinking Sands then? Definitely possible at this point. I'm thinking Fields is possible if he can somehow hit as well or better than Shuck in ST. Fields is a much better option, defensively speaking, as a backup to CF. Shuck wasn't very good in CF last year and is much better at the corners. I'm on the fence really, Shuck has a better bat and plate discipline than Fields but Fields has the better defense. Yeah probably Sands assuming they don't bring in a bench bat somehow I guess. I still think Raburn would be perfect to split time with LaRoche. Mashes lefties and we wouldn't have to face him.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 07:32 AM) For now, my main concern is if the Sox feel that Fields could be a quality backup to CF and end up not bringing in another OF bat. Fields defense as a backup to CF is a good thing but it's his bat that makes me wonder. If Fields could hit just a little he could serve as a nice place holder to CF backup until May, hopefully, shows he's ready to take that spot. Still yet, I cling to hope that Hahn is able to bring in another bat for CF. I don't know if he'll make it. The 25th spot will likely go to a platoon guy with LaRoche assuming there are no major additions.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Avi with a 2 run oppo bomb off Brennan. WHO NEEDS ANOTHER OUTFIELDER! Man I hope his adjustments pay off.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 1, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) ZiPS came out yesterday, and August f**erstrom used it to point out how incredibly bad our OF defense looks, which reminded me that we didn't address it at all. Overall, we project to be 29th out of 30. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/previewing-...-team-defenses/ LF - Melky; BAD CF - Eaton; Below average RF - Garcia; EXTRA BAD 1B - Abreu; BAD 2B - Lawrie; BAD SS - Saladino; Good! 3B - Frazier; Good! C - Avila/Navarro; Solid and improved. With Austin Jackson somehow still out there, and this team hurt so much by lacking what he does best, I just... I just can't believe this is what the lineup looks like. I want to believe that they're going to get this done. I mean, it's not like giving Jackson a two or three year deal is going to block ANYTHING coming up in the system, and what a difference it could make! The defense could instead look like (by the way, those assessments are my own; the projections actually make it look worse): LF - Melky; BAD CF - Jackson; Good! RF - Eaton; Probably average or above 1B - Abreu; BAD 2B - Lawrie; BAD SS - Saladino; Good! 3B - Frazier; Good! C - Avila/Navarro; Solid and improved. Crazy how much better that looks. Defense would still be the weakness of the team, but that group above is merely "below average." That feels like a state that may not sink the team. I really apologize for being a downer lately. You guys know it's not usually how I am. But I just don't GET this. The only explanation is that ownership is being cheap, and I just keep glancing to the corner of my room and seeing my pitchfork there, gleaming dangerously in the wan sunlight that filters through my half-drawn curtains. And just... why is this happening? Signing Jackson to play center potentially upgrades 3 spots (Most likely 2).
  7. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) I hate myself for clicking on a link to watch Leury Garcia hit a single and Adam Eaton ground out. Winter needs to end. Me too man...me too. Supposed to snow tonight!
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) I find it hard to believe David Freese is still looking for work with the shortage of 3B in the league. He is not the greatest but has put up over a 2.0 WAR the last couple of years. His price has to be pretty reasonable at this point. You would think even a rebuilding team like the Reds would sign him as a stop gap or/and to flip later.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 08:01 AM) According to Levine they offered more than 2/$17 million for Fowler. Which I guess helps my point even further.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 09:20 AM) When Dan Bernstein turns something into a controversy you know its nothing. WHo f***ing cares. Huh? Bernstein was defending him though.
  11. I find it odd they offered 2/$17 mill for Fowler (plus a draft pick) but are supposedly not interested in Jackson (likely a guy who may take a one year deal plus no draft pick). I doubt that we don't have interest.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) These are the exactly the kind of "prospects" KW has made a history of trading away for productive players, so no, I'm not interested in giving up this pick for one year of Fowler or Desmond. Yeah even if they go on to do nothing with their careers, early on in the first few years they still have upside and are trade chips.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Jackson has put up 5.5 WAR higher in his career than Fowler in about 100 less PA. He is younger. The difference being Fowler gets most of his offensively, Jackson, at least the last couple of seasons, defensively. Eaton said today he will be ready by opening day, but the Sox could use a guy who can play CF. no QO attached. It comes down to price. He obviously wants more than $6 million. He Probably wants more than $12 million at this point. it appears the Sox were willing to go around $10 million a year for Fowler if Bruce's report is accurate. This has to be the play, doesn't it? I guess it will all come down to when Boras feels there is no chance at the money he is looking for. When he rejected that deal with the Angels, I bet it had more to do with playing time than money. They already has a platoon there so he'd be part of a 3 man system if he had signed there. Hard to build your value sitting on the bench a lot of the time.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) Who do we realistically have to trade outside our top three that will net an impact bat? Sure, there are obviously many Jay Bruce, Carlos Gonzalez and Ethier types out there...and problem is they all bump the payroll up $12-18 million. About the only real 3-4 war "younger" impact bat on the market was the Marlins' Ozuna...and that acquisition isn't going to come from Tier B/C prospects cobbled together. Yeah we don't have much depth to trade for a good bat so if rather see them see them sign Jackson to play center moving Eaton to left.
  15. QUOTE (venom4789 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) So how have the last few players worked out for us that we got from the nationals. Plus its only a one year contract, you lose a pick and are hoping he can adjust to a new league and new position. Appears i am in the minority but i am glad we didnt offer the one year deal to him. We could have signed him to play short though. That position isn't set in stone. And I bet if he were still a free a couple weeks from now and Saladino and Rollins were both doing terrible, we'd consider him.
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) Austin Jackson makes even more sense at this point. Get it done already. Agree.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) Are you sure it's 48 and not 49? Did you account for the Nats receiving a pick for Desmond? Yeah when I started it I had it as all the players were signed already. I've been taking away picks as the offseason has gone by. Example: started with Sox at 33.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) That is all. Tat brothers.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:49 AM) Another one bites the dust. Cheap organization, man. Absolutely ridiculous. Go Austin Jackson! Fixed hopefully. Wishful thinking.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) Does this move them to 26? There have been some good players picked at 26 including Alan Trammell 40 years ago. this is going to be interesting as Desmond will be a LF. He did go to a good park to put up some numbers. Yes it does. Updated my sig. Also takes them out of a potential run at Austin Jackson.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) Contreras was, in the sense that we felt he was vastly undervalued...received a significant financial subsidy over a multi-year commitment and sold high on Loiaza as well. It worked exactly like a second tier signing for a first-tier talent. Pods was coming off a disappointing sophomore season and they simply wanted to dump Lee's salary and redistribute it over multiple players. Or you could just argue Politte and Contreras came from the scrap heap...since Cashman dumped him largely because of the Red Sox owning him in some key head to head match-ups in 2003 and 2004. They weren't free agents is my point.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2016 -> 07:10 AM) You forgot Pods, Hermanson, Contreras, Vizcaino, etc. F. Garcia is the only one we really paid a seemingly "high" price at the time of acquisition...and Politte was yet another scrap heap deal. The problem is we've gone eight years without that combined amount of success that we had over those 18 months. Pods, Contreras and Vizcaino weren't second or third tier free agent signings for what it's worth.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) I expect him to now be a National before I get back to work on Monday. I am actually predicting him to be a National again by the end of Spring Training.
  24. I'm still into the idea of Jackson being the CF. Move Eaton to left, Melky to right and you for sure upgrade left and center defensively (right field would probably be a wash). Let Avi play a little RF in games where Melky could DH against lefties. Or if he struggles in the spring, let him work on his new swing/stance in the minors while getting another platoon bat for LaRoche (Raburn comes to mind). That's how I'd go about the next month.
  25. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) Are they really, though? They've only had a handful of quality ones dancing in front of their nose for the past few months, there for the taking, and nuttin'! Based on Hahn's comments it sounds like it. Granted you can only take that with a grain of salt until something actually gets done.
