  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) It's snowing now. Where?
  2. Red Sox sign Carlos Quentin. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/red-...os-quentin.html Wtf lol
  3. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Ah yes, that does make sense. It will be interesting to see how they allocate their resources this season and next offseason, both cash resources and prospect resources. Yes it will be. I could totally see them adding a starter next off-season (along with maybe Q if he is still around at the deadline this year or next off-season) and then signing a bat (Harper or Machado) in the following off-season. I think Gardner is a free agent at that point as well. He's not making a ton but every bit of savings helps.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) I could see this. With regard to ARod and CC, they may free up $46 mil, but Tanaka plus Arrieta/Cueto would probably cost more than $50 mil/year combined, thus increasing payroll overall. Well you'd also have to subtract out Tanaka's $22 mill from the 2017 payroll (he's signed for longer, but has the opt-out which he would likely do if he pitches good and is healthy) so it would actually be less. So after this year if he opts out, its actually a $68 mill difference from what they are now to next off-season without Tanaka, A-Rod and CC. Edit: if that makes sense haha
  5. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) Hey Houston... 2016 Stats of Napoli (New TEX Ranger) vs Quintana http://www.rotowire.com/baseball/vsbatter.htm?id=12329 22 4 .182 1 0 1 3 2 9 0 1 .364 .250 .614 God, those Cespedes numbers. So much damage in only 19 PAs.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) You mean so they could trade for Q and have control of him for several years and then resign Tanaka after the season is over? That's a good idea for them. Yeah like what they did with Chapman. They also wouldn't need to give up a pick to sign Tanaka as opposed to another option. Check out my edited post.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) Cueto and Arrieta are the big names net offseason, and they will cost a crap ton. Plus the Yankees will have to deal with resigning Tanaka. If they're concerned with the luxury tax, I would think it would be easier for the Yankees to bring in a modestly-priced Quintana than try to make the numbers work for Tanaka and one of Cueto/Arrieta. Maybe they end up dealing Tanaka if he is doing good for prospects at the deadline to have more depth for a Q trade? Based on their trades last season, it seems like they're into that. I don't think it's impossible for them to have interest, I just don't see it until around mid-season. Step 1: Trade Tanaka for prospects Step 2: Trade prospects for Quintana Step 3: Sign a starter in free agency in the off-season Worth mentioning A-Rod and CC are off the books for them after this season ($46 mill).
  8. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) Then why did they sign a closer to an $86 million contract (with an opt out after three years, when they would theoretically be competitive)? I don't get that. I think the Yankees would be fine with trading Frazier + Rutherford for Quintana, but it won't happen until June/July. They want to be good at some point in those 5 years and they also didn't have to give up top talent to bring him in. I bet they go all in next off-season. Like I said, this season is hitting the reset button.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Anyone think Doug Fister might be a good fit if Q is traded? Yeah. He may be able to help us go for #1 pick haha without Q, would the rotation be: Rodon, Shields, Gonzalez, Holland, Covey/Beck/possible spring training minor league signing that hasn't happened yet? Him or Travis Wood could be potential adds.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) Why? Their rotation is absolutely horrific and they have no shot at winning anything right now. Because they're not trying to win right now. They would have added more significant pieces by this point in the off-season. They're basically hitting the reset button for a year letting bad contracts expire. The only way their interest and willingness could change is if they're playing over their heads in the division or wild card race around mid-season/trade deadline.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) I wouldn't trade both of those guys for Quintana if I were them. I don't disagree he's worth them from a theoretical standpoint, but I don't see the point of giving up that much talent when the rest of the roster isn't ready to be serious contenders and they'll be sitting on boatloads on money in the very near future to fill some of their needs. It makes much more sense for them to wait another year or two before making a move like this. This.
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:27 AM) That is very true I'd grade Musgrove, Martes and Tucker all as B+ prospects right now Send those three over and I think a deal gets done Take out Musgrove and I need 2 additional B prospects Martes, Tucker, Fisher/Laureano, Stubbs?
  13. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Hahn has continued to insist that the White Sox will not compromise on Quintana...meaning they still are firm on the Musgrove + Martes + Tucker asking price I'd be open to a depth package, but if no Musgrove then I'd need Franklin Perez and AJ Reed to make up for it Agreed. Personally, I don't need Musgrove if it makes the rest of the package weaker on the position player side.
  14. QUOTE (beautox @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) Nightengale saying Astros want one more starter for their rotation per their owner before the season starts and ideally its Quintana or Gray on mlb network this morning. Not anything new per se. I think they will end up caving. No way A's sell low on Gray and to a division rival.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) My wife and I may or may not have discussed this exact escape plan into Canada recently... Yeah you kinda have to due to strict immigration, which in a way is kind of ironic haha
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 08:22 AM) They could very well be the ideal team to be involved at the trade deadline. If they're in the game for the wild card at that time, which they have a shot at being...pitching will be on their list of needs, and they won't want whatever they acquire to impact their ability to spend in FA. True, but there should also be rentals available that will cost a lot less (not just talking top tier potential free agents but guys who may be throwing a career year that could be available).
  17. As much as I believe illegal immigration should be stricter, I feel like there has to be a better use of time/resources/ways than a wall.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 08:10 AM) I just think with spring training getting close, and most of the teams supposedly in on Q training in Florida, getting this done asap should be a priority now. If it were a bunch of AZ teams, as silly as it may seem, I think there would be more time. I would think the team acquiring him would want him as comfortable as can be, and getting traded can't be so comfortable. I hope you're right. I don't think any of can take 6 more months of rumors on Quintana haha
  19. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 04:48 AM) Sources: John Paxson and Gar Forman jobs safe moving into Bulls' offseason http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baske...0207-story.html "Heeey wait a minute. Does your dad know you work here?"
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 08:04 AM) I have no information, but I do think today is a day something happens. Pretty random, bold claim by Mr. Allen haha that doesn't usually happen.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 07:47 AM) I don't see the Yankees getting involved with the justifiably high cost when they are not likely to contend in 2017. Although they could be back in contention within a session or two Yeah it's possible they use this year to see what they have in some of the youngsters. Next off-season, they can deal for Q if he isn't traded before then (which he probably will) and sign another starter. The following off-season, they can sign one of Harper/Machado or maybe Harper + Donaldson.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 06:00 AM) They aren't. This isn't the usual "one up Boston" offseason for them. Agreed. They would have been involved in Sale talks and made a few others significant adds.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) They should be. Their rotation is awful. Don't think they're really that sincere about competing yet. Bad contracts off the books this year (including A-Rod). I bet they just horde prospects for a year and sign a couple guys next off-season.
  24. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 8, 2017 -> 02:35 AM) Hammel and Wade Davis. Based on his tweets, its looks like he has a source with the cubs.
  25. Very doubtful Yankees were ever that serious in Q. Not at the price of either Torres or Frazier anyway.
