  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) If the Sox can sign Upton, why not then focus their attention on finding a good fielding SS, who could bat in the 2 hole, and not cost a draft pick or anyone significant on the roster? I'd prefer that addition to trading for Frazier. Any candidates? I think the lineup would be fine with those additions: Eaton CF ???? SS (Profile: good bunter, hit and run threat, and decent OBP. Average and power not important) Abreu 1B Upton RF Melky LF Lawrie 3B La Roche DH Avila/Navarro C Sanchez 2B Avi and Thompson battle for the reserve OF spot. That team should be able to score some runs, and provide decent defense. Doesn't Saladino basically fit your description?
  2. What I will say is: I think they end up with at least one of the three in Frazier, Upton, or Cespedes. 3 upgrades & a potentially good rotation w/ some bounce back candidates. I'm fine with that for this year.
  3. Cespedes seems like a good deal now but I feel like 3-4 down the road when he falls off & still has 2-3 years left on his deal, we would really hate it. They need a big bat & I won't be overly picky but I would 100% prefer Upton at this point.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) For the right free agent I have no problem with it. For a guy like Ian Desmond though...that's a little hard for me to process(just because of his offensive decline). 100% agree. Desmond or a guy like David Murphy would piss me off. Upton or Gordon I would be fine with. I think this team severely underachieved most of the year & there are a few players that are due to bounce back but I really think they need at least 1 bigger bat to put them in the mix to compete for a WC spot.
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 13, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) Hahn on XM Radio last week said they were talking to guys with QO offers attached It's kinda at the point right now where if you want to add a bat, you may have to do that. I'd rather give up a QO pick vs draining the farm for someone with 2-3 years of control. That's just me, though.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) I agree. Give him a legit shot to be the opening day CF'er . He looked like a major leaguer when he batted , not necessarily because of the success, but because he looked very comfortable in the box and seemed to have a good eye. Jose Iglesias of the Tigers had pretty "meh" minor league stats and he's hit pretty well in the majors. Exactly. Some players react different at different levels. He looked like a major leaguer & a pretty good one at that. I could be completely wrong but to label him Brian Anderson is just rough.
  7. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:25 PM) I have a feeling Trayce is the new Brian Anderson. Just going to keep hearing about that defense and how he just needs a chance... I'd be more than happy to admit I'm wrong though. If Trayce can figure out how to stick as a (decent) major league hitter it would be a huge boost for the franchise. That's an extremely unfair comparison for Thompson. He had 122 at bats, had a slash line of .295/.366/.533/.896 w/ 5 HRs and great defense. Let's give him a real chance & see what he has.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) Davis makes Cardinals better than if they keep Heyward in my opinion. They need power badly. Does Heyward going to the Cubs make them better overall than Davis going to STL, though? I think the Cubs are going to be very hard to beat. They were good before & have done nothing but get better this offseason.
  9. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 11:07 AM) She has an interesting reputation after the Kane saga. Always had good interactions with her. But that was a mess. I'm not at all a fan of her. I think she is very biased when it has anything to do w/ men vs women. She seems dialed in with the Cubs, though.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) What signs? Cubs beat writers. Just saw something from Julie Di-whatever the hell her last name is.
  11. All signs pointing to the Cubs at this point.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Didn't he predict Upton here a couple days ago? Nightingale did.
  13. If their asking price is that high, there's no way the Sox & Reds match.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:11 PM) Bruce Levine on 670 said the Reds want Anderson or Fulmer. No F***ing way that happens.
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) Nightengale says he thinks it's a bluff. He doesnt think they are going to spend the 10 years plus the 200 mill for Heyward. To be fair, Nightengale also said Zobrist was getting 4 years & $80M. I like him but he's not on the top of the list of guys I trust outside of the Sox.
  16. I think it's almost a guaranteed that Hayward lands with the Cubs or Cards... More likely the Cubs at this point.
  17. At this point, Micah has to be a center piece. Obviously if they have Lawrie at 2B & pursuing Frazier for 3B, they don't see Michah as their future 2B. He's got some value.
  18. I think Micah as a center piece could be workable. They have some pitching they can give. Months or even Danish & some lower level guys?
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:46 PM) Sure He had a great time in Oakland. Thanked the fans and apologized for not doing better. Said he knows Melky and Navarro. He's really excited to play with Abreu,Eaton and the great pitching staff. Used to be traded. Just gotta have a positive mindset. He loves hard working teammates and wants to help this team win a championship. Thanks, man.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) You need a subscription Play by play for us?
  21. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:21 PM) And some of you guys were sending Tryce/EK/Avi to A's. Let Rick Hahn do his job. Aren't we all getting paid to do this job, though?
  22. Shoutout to RaBBit here. Called this back on Thanksgiving. Upton next?
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) Tonight will be busy. For the Sox or just in general?
  24. I'm still confused how anyone can look at the Sox history & see what they currently have at 3B & say they don't want Lawrie. At the right price, this could be a very nice add. That or give up your #1 overall prospect for 2 years of Todd Frazier. Or sign a "stop gap" with no one really down in the minors to develop.
  25. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:11 AM) Laroche is a born again idiot that said he's not here to play the game, but to spread the gospel. No dickf***, you are getting paid 25 million to hit a f***ing baseball. Once he said that crap, I wanted him gone in a flash. Hateful much? This is not a good look for you, man. No reason to say this about anyone.
