I understand and agree with what you say here, but I do think some credit should be given for actually following through with bringing the Sox into the 21st century. It probably would have been pretty easy to stick with the status quo and ride out that sweet, sweet Reinsdorf job security.

I understand the logic in a guy like Melendez, simply because he can play - but isn’t limited to - catcher, thus allowing Teel/Quero to DH without Venable worrying. I don’t have interest in Melendez specifically, but as a minor league deal its fine.
