http://www.bing.com/maps/?mapurl=http://tr...%26state=IL.kml That's correct. And I think he can receive WREX at Dixon, Illinois using rabbit ears indoors. The tower of WREX is located west of Rockford, near Winnebago, Illinois. The straight line distance is around 35-40 miles. Make certain to get good rabbit ears (not cheap ones) that are capable of receiving VHF signals. Many antennas sold nowadays are 'UHF Only', but WREX uses VHF Channel 13. Make certain that the VHF antenna rods are pulled out as far as possible, and position the rods so that they are nearly parallel with the ground, going opposite directions from each other, placed near a window. This antenna works quite well. The photo here however has the VHF rods pushed all the way in. When pulled out, each rod is about 5 feet long: http://www.terk.com/search/?sku=LOGTVI -
TV Baseball for the Out of Towner Sox fan
InTheDriversSeat replied to elrockinMT's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And for the In Town Sox fan, a special treat for viewers in the Chicago area who do not have cable / satellite. Due to the triple conflict on Comcast SportsNet involving the White Sox, Bulls, and Blackhawks, CSN has decided to move the Thursday night game to a free over-the-air channel: WMAQ-TV, Channel 5-2 (Cozi TV). For Comcast cable customers, 'Cozi TV' airs on Channel 341. For customers of other cable / satellite services, the game will also air on the overflow channel 'CSN+ 2'. The channel numbers for 'CSN+ 2' should be available on Thursday, April 23rd at this grid: http://www.csnchicago.com/channel-finder -
4/20- White Sox vs Cleveland Indians

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 20, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) It'd be neat if I could watch this game in Iowa. I guess it's my fault for living here. Where in Iowa are you located? Tonite's game is carried on 2 TV stations in Iowa. Of course there are parts of the state which can not receive the signals of these stations: Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-3 (Antenna TV) Des Moines also has an affiliate, but the TV station has chosen to only air 20 games out of the 55 games which are available, and tonite's game is not one of them. -
Here are the TV stations airing the next 2 over-the-air White Sox games: Saturday, April 18th, 12:00 Noon Central, Chicago at Detroit (7 stations) Chicago WGN-TV, Channel 9 (The CW) Rockford WREX, Channel 13-3 (Me TV) Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-2 (my network TV) Peoria / Bloomington, IL WAOE Peoria, Channel 59 (my network TV) South Bend WSJV Elkhart, IN, Channel 28-2 (H&I Heroes & Icons) Fort Wayne WANE-TV, Channel 15-2 (Antenna TV) Monday, April 20th, 7:00 PM Central, Cleveland at Chicago (7 stations) Chicago WPWR-TV Gary/Chicago, Channel 50 (my network TV) Rockford WREX, Channel 13-3 (Me TV) Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-3 (Antenna TV) Peoria / Bloomington, IL WAOE Peoria, Channel 59 (my network TV) South Bend WSJV Elkhart, IN Channel 28-2 (H&I Heroes & Icons) Fort Wayne WANE-TV, Channel 15-2 (Antenna TV) And if the Nashville Predators beat the Blackhawks in 1 game in their best-of-7 series, Thursday, April 23rd, 7:00 PM Central, Kansas City at Chicago Chicago WMAQ-TV, Channel 5-2 (Cozi TV) Cable / satellite: CSN+ 2

http://www.csnchicago.com/article/bullsnba...mcast-sportsnet Everyone, A triple conflict involving the White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bulls may happen on Thursday, April 23rd. 'Comcast SportsNet Chicago' has the broadcast rights for all 3 teams which might have games at the same time. If the Nashville Predators win at least 1 game of the their best-of-7 playoff series against the Blackhawks, a 5th game will be required for their playoff series. That game will take place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville next Thursday night, airing on the main 'CSN Chicago' channel. Also on Thursday night, the Chicago Bulls also have game 4 of their best-of-7 playoff series against the Milwaukee Bucks at BMO Harris Bradley Center. This game would air on CSN+. According to the above link (if I am reading this correctly), the White Sox game against Kansas City would be moved to 'CSN+ 2' and 'Cozi TV' WMAQ-TV Channel 5-2, a free over-the-air sub-channel using an antenna. Comcast cable provides 'Cozi TV' on channel 341. Viewers using other pay services (DirecTV, Dish Network, AT&T U-verse) normally do not get over-the-air sub-channels, but I think they should be able to find 'CSN+ 2' somewhere on their dial. If the Blackhawks sweep Nashville, the Bulls-Bucks game will air on the main 'CSN Chicago' channel, and the White Sox-Royals will air on CSN+.

Channel 50 WPWR-TV Tuesday night
InTheDriversSeat replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Before leaving for work today I attempted to set our Xfinity DVR to record tonite's game on WPWR-TV. But the Comcast programming guide mistakenly indicates the normal weeknight programming, LOL (2 episodes of Family Feud at 6 PM, 2 episodes of Law & Order at 7 PM, The Big Bang Theory at 9 PM, etc.) Kind of surprised that Comcast hasn't figured out the correct TV schedule for WPWR-TV. The 2015 White Sox broadcast schedule was announced in February... -
Channel 50 WPWR-TV Tuesday night
InTheDriversSeat replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree. The audio mix was terrible last season on WCIU-TV. Way too much crowd noise, and we could not hear Hawk & Stoney speak. Let's hope that WPWR-TV / WGN Sports has the audio problems corrected Tuesday night. Yes, Channel 50 has a good signal, as do the other major full-power TV stations transmitting from downtown Chicago (with the exception of Channel 2 WBBM-TV for some viewers because that station could not convert to UHF, and still transmits on VHF). Channel 50 reception area: http://www.bing.com/maps/?mapurl=http://tr...26state=IN.kml# That's correct, WPWR-TV is shown on Channel 8 on most cable systems. With Comcast, Channel 8 is the channel for Standard Definition. High Definition is Channel 184, unless your remote automatically bounces to the High Def channel when pressing 8. With AT&T U-verse, Channel 8 is Standard Definition and Channel 1008 is High Definition. By the way, here is a complete list of the 6 TV stations in Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana that will carry the Sox game Tuesday night from Cleveland: Chicago WPWR-TV Gary/Chicago, Channel 50 (my network TV) Rockford WREX, Channel 13-3 (Me TV) Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-2 (my network TV) Peoria / Bloomington, IL WAOE Peoria, Channel 59 (my network TV) South Bend WSJV Elkhart, IN Channel 28-2 (H&I Heroes & Icons) -
Coming up on Tuesday this week will be the first Sox telecast this season on Channel 50 WPWR-TV Gary/Chicago. The game at Cleveland starts at 6PM Central. The broadcast will be produced by WGN Sports under the name 'WGN Sports On my50'. Channel 9 WGN-TV is unable to carry some White Sox / Cubs / Bulls games due to scheduling conflicts with 'The CW' network which is also carried on WGN-TV. Starting in 2015, WGN Sports made the decision to move White Sox / Cubs / Bulls overflow games from Channel 26 WCIU-TV ('WGN Sports On The U') to Channel 50 instead. This will be the first time Sox games have ever been shown on Channel 50, but not the first time the Sox were aired on WPWR-TV. In the early 80's, WPWR-TV was on Channel 60, licensed to Aurora and transmitting from Sears Tower. WPWR-TV moved from Channel 60 to Channel 50 in 1987. When WPWR-TV was on Channel 60, the station shared time with another TV station, Spanish-language WBBS-TV West Chicago. WPWR-TV was on the air from 2:30 AM - 7:00 PM, while WBBS-TV broadcasted from 7:00 PM - 2:30 AM, however programing from both stations was often replaced with SportsVision. SportsVision was a pay-tv service owned by the White Sox that carried Sox, Blackhawks, Bulls, Sting, college sports, and some out-of-market MLB games. When Channel 60 became SportsVision, TV transmissions were scrambled. A converter box and a $20 monthly bill were required to receive the service, but sometimes SportsVision would provide unscrambled free previews for a couple of weeks. Does anybody remember watching SportsVision? I know that many Sox fans were not about to pay to watch games on TV that they previously could watch for free. Adjusted for inflation, $20 is now $48.65 per month. A lot of money at the time for a service offering sports on 1 channel for only a part of the day. We did not have SportsVision at my house because I was attending college out-of-state, and I was busy working a summer job during the 3 months that I was home. Plus, I had not gotten over the 1981 MLB players strike. But I do remember the free previews, with Don Drysdale alongside Hawk wearing his cowboy hat in the booth.

Where are you located? Mendota and Dixon are 27.5 miles apart. I can tell you the best ways to receive the over-the-air Sox games, but I need to know where you are watching TV from. That's correct. Don is blacked out of internet streaming. That service is available only to viewers located outside of the broadcast zone, plus it's charged. But since Don is located close to Chicago, he could easily just buy a TV and hook-up some rabbit ears and he will receive 59 games for free in HD: 35 games on Channel 9 WGN-TV (The CW) 20 games on Channel 50 WPWR-TV (my network TV) - produced by WGN Sports 3 games on Channel 7 WLS-TV (ABC) - Crosstown games with Cubs announcers not included with 55 games mentioned above 1 game on Channel 32 WFLD (Fox) - shown on Saturday night 'MLB On Fox' Of course if he wants to pay for cable or satellite, he will receive 'Comcast SportsNet Chicago' which will air the rest of the Sox schedule.

The first regular season game televised by WGN Sports will be tomorrow night, April 8th at Kansas City, starting at 7 PM Central. Here are the 6 TV stations across the network that will air the game: Chicago WGN-TV, Channel 9 (The CW) Rockford WREX, Channel 13-3 (Me TV) Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-2 (my network TV) Peoria / Bloomington, IL WAOE Peoria, Channel 59 (my network TV) South Bend WSJV Elkhart, IN, Channel 28-2 (H&I Heroes & Icons) The home game on Saturday, April 11th against Minnesota, with Pregame starting at 12:30 PM, will be televised on 8 television stations: Chicago WGN-TV, Channel 9 (The CW) Rockford WREX, Channel 13-3 (Me TV) Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-1 (ABC) Des Moines KCWI-TV Ames, Channel 23 (The CW) / simulcast on KDMI Des Moines, Channel 23-2 (The CW) Peoria / Bloomington, IL WAOE Peoria, Channel 59 (my network TV) South Bend WSJV Elkhart, IN, Channel 28-2 (H&I Heroes & Icons) Fort Wayne WANE-TV, Channel 15-2 (Antenna TV) I have also found several station schedules that became available after my original message was posted: Rockford http://www.wrex.com/story/28732230/2015/04...x-games-on-metv Des Moines http://www.kcwi23.com/great_day/2015-cubs-...dcast-schedule/ Peoria (new link because original link no longer works) http://my59.tv/programs/chicago-white-sox-on-my59/ Springfield / Decatur / Champaign http://files.sj-r.com/media/news/CW23cubssox.pdf Indianapolis WISH-TV Indianapolis, Channel 8 (The CW) is now simulcast on WNDY-TV Marion, Channel 23-3. 12 games will be carried. http://wishtv.com/2015/03/31/you-can-now-s...n-channel-23-3/

Hawk made a comment that the game had the highest attendance of any Spring Training game in history. I think the attendance was over 15,000. Cubs fans are really packing the seats at their new spring training park.

If you are located in Woodridge, Illinois, you should be able to receive both Channel 9 WGN-TV and Channel 50 WPWR-TV with some good rabbit ears (not cheap ones). Of course your big attic antenna will help to receive other TV stations (that don't carry any baseball) which are harder to receive like Channel 2 WBBM-TV and low-power stations. MLB's blackout rules haven't changed. I think the blame should be directed at Peter Liguori, the CEO of Tribune Media. He is the one who decided that WGN America will no longer carry any Chicago sports or news. He is the one who wants to make WGN America more like TNT, TBS, FX, USA Network or whatever. He is the reason why 33 Sox games that were aired on WGN America last season are no longer available (30 games + 1 pre-season + 2 Crosstown games with Cubs announcers). Tribune Media really had a nice deal in the past because Chicago sports were available to a national cable audience, but Tribune only paid for the local rights to air the games. I know alot of fans are upset, but they have other options to view the missing 33 games like MLB.tv and MLB Extra Innings (outside the zone), or local broadcast affiliates (inside the zone). Problems occur however when local affiliates are not carried by cable/satellite, or reception problems, or partial schedules are picked-up, or no TV station at all wants to pick-up the games in a particular town. I think the White Sox management are disappointed too because the Sox no longer have the additional national exposure. Former Chicagoans living across the USA can no longer view the games unless they pay extra money. I can no longer suggest to my family and friends from out-of-state that they can watch the games of my favorite team on WGN America. The only positive from the changes this year is that a larger amount of syndicated games are available to local stations. Previously 'WGN Sports On The U' had 25 Sox games available. This season the amount of games has increased to 55 games available (58 including ABC7 productions with Cubs announcers).

The reason why there is the sliver of White Sox / Cubs / Brewers territory in southwest Wisconsin is that you are close to Dubuque, and MLB thinks your area should be able to receive TV (over-the-air or cable) from the 'Cedar Rapids - Waterloo - Iowa City - Dubuque' market. Problem is that Dubuque is located alot farther away from the other 3 towns, which are closer to each other. If you are located at Dickeyville, Wisconsin, the closest TV station is not Moline (Quad Cities). The closest TV station from your location is KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids. You might be able to receive KCRG-TV using a quality, roof-mounted, outdoor VHF / UHF antenna pointed west by southwest. Make certain that the antenna is capable of receiving both VHF and UHF signals, because most antennas sold nowadays are 'UHF Only'. After 2009, most TV stations moved to new UHF channel numbers (because UHF is easier to receive than VHF), but the stations continue to identify with their original channel numbers. KCRG-TV did not move to UHF, and transmits on VHF channel 9. The tower for KCRG-TV is located about halfway between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, near Walker, Iowa, which is around 65 - 70 miles from your location. The terrain in your area is very hilly, plus VHF signals can be harder to receive, so you can only try to see what happens, and ask for a refund if the antenna does not work. According to this map at the FCC's website, you are located with the reception area of KCRG-TV: http://www.bing.com/maps/?mapurl=http://tr...%26state=IA.kml That takes care of 55 games (58 if you include Crosstown games with Cubs announcers). For 106 Sox games (98 games live, and 8 games delayed), I think you should be able to receive 'Comcast SportsNet Chicago' on DirecTV. According to this website, when I type in the zip code for Dickeyville, Wisconsin (53808), the channel number is 665: http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/funct...s_sports_lookup So DirecTV together with an outdoor antenna might work. Let me know if the DirecTV information is not accurate. You should get the phone with Channel 3 KIMT Mason City (CBS on 3-1, my network TV on 3-2). That TV station is located in the zone that is eligible to carry 55 White Sox games and 45 Cubs games produced by WGN Sports.

That's correct. DirecTV, Dish Network, and AT&T U-verse usually do not provide digital sub-channels of local stations (unless a sub-channel is an affiliate of a Big 4 Network: ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, which is sometimes the case in small TV markets like Quincy, IL). However cable TV provides most sub-channels. But viewers do not need to pay for any of those services because the stations I listed are available for free using an antenna. There really is no such thing as a "digital antenna", which is a marketing hoax. An antenna purchased 25 years ago will receive digital TV stations and work the same as an antenna that is purchased today. Viewers should be careful when buying a new antenna because most antennas sold today can not receive VHF signals (channels 2 thru 13). Make certain that the antenna is capable of receiving both VHF and UHF signals, because a few TV stations still transmit on VHF. After 2009, most TV stations moved to UHF but continue to identify using their historical VHF channel number. But several of the TV stations that will be showing Sox games this season still transmit on VHF: WREX Rockford Display channel 13, Transmits on VHF channel 13 KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids Display channel 9, Transmits on VHF channel 9 WGEM-TV Quincy Display channel 10, Transmits on VHF channel 10 WISH-TV Indianapolis Display channel 8, Transmits on VHF channel 9 (WISH-TV also has a UHF translator station that displays as channel 8 but transmits on UHF channel 17, and a simulcast on sister WNDY-TV Marion Channel 23-3 for the benefit of viewers who are not using a VHF antenna or have trouble receiving the VHF signal) Thank you for finding this. Apparently the memo linked at the top from WGN Sports is incomplete. On your link, I see 20 Sox games, and 30 Cubs games. 3 of the 20 Sox games are against the Cubs, but with Sox announcers, therefore the Cubs total is 33 if the Sox broadcasts are added in. This Des Moines TV station is not taking the entire WGN package from either team, which is 55 Sox games available, and 45 Cubs games available. So here is a new addition to my original list: Des Moines Channel 23-1 KCWI-TV Ames / 23-2 KDMI Des Moines (The CW) - 20 games

http://wgntvsales.com/Sports/White_Sox_Schedule.pdf Because WGN America no longer carries any sports, this has opened the door for many more games to be syndicated to free, over-the-air television stations located in the White Sox' home television territory, which is shown on this map: https://cdn2.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_ass...torialmap.0.jpg Last season, the 25 games produced by WGN Sports (but shown on WCIU-TV) were distributed to TV affiliates in Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana under the brand 'WGN Sports On The U'. But none of the 30 WGN-TV telecasts were because the games were airing nationwide on cable on WGN America. For the 2015 season, 55 games will be available for free over-the-air viewing across the 3 states. Here are the stations: Chicago Channel 9 WGN-TV Chicago (The CW) - 35 games Channel 50 WPWR-TV Gary / Chicago (my network TV) - 20 games Rockford Channel 13-3 WREX Rockford (Me TV) - all 55 games Quad Cities Channel 8-3 WQAD-TV Moline (my network TV) - all 55 games https://localtvwqad.files.wordpress.com/201...edule-20151.pdf Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City Channel 9 KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids (ABC) - 5 games Channel 9-2 (my network TV) - 42 games Channel 9-3 (Antenna TV) - 8 games http://www.kcrg.com/MLB2015 http://www.kcrg.com/subject/news/kcrg-tv9-...-games-20150311 Peoria / Bloomington, IL Channel 59 WAOE Peoria (my network TV) - all 55 games http://my59.tv/programs/whitesox-cubs-2/ Springfield / Decatur / Champaign Channel 23 WBUI Decatur (The CW) - 12 games Quincy, IL / Hannibal, MO Channel 10-2 WGEM-TV Quincy (The CW) or Channel 10-3 (Fox) - 5 games South Bend Channel 28-2 WSJV Elkhart, IN (H&I Heroes & Icons) - all 55 games http://www.fox28.com/story/28282654/2015/0...white-sox-games Fort Wayne Channel 15-2 WANE-TV (Antenna TV) - 46 games http://wane.com/2015/03/05/2015-white-sox-baseball/ Indianapolis Channel 8 WISH-TV (The CW) / simulcast on UHF translator and Channel 23-3 WNDY-TV Marion (The CW) - 12 games http://wishtv.com/2015/03/19/wish-tv-is-th...-and-white-sox/ I noticed that Des Moines is missing this year, which had 25 Sox games televised last year on Channel 13-3 WHO-DT (Antenna TV). WHO-DT is owned by Tribune Company (the same owner as WGN-TV), so I see no reason why Des Moines is excluded. Indianapolis is new for 2015, but only 12 games will be aired out of 55 games that are available. But the same TV station (and a co-owned sister station) in Indy are going to air the entire package of 45 Cubs games. In most of the markets listed above, expect 3 more Sox games against the Cubs to air on a different channel that are produced by WLS-TV having Cubs announcers.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) The real problem is MLB's ridiculous blackout rules. I would have no problem paying for MLB.tv if I could get the games on there. Instead I am blacked out nationally from a game that is unavailable to me locally and that makes zero sense. MLB is hurting their product by not allowing my to watch in any way, shape or form unless I want to illegally stream it. They basically promote piracy with their blackout policy. 58 White Sox games will be televised on free TV on KCRG-TV from Cedar Rapids in 2015 (55 with Sox announcers, 3 against the Cubs with Cubs announcers). The 55 games are WGN-TV telecasts, or WPWR-TV telecasts that are produced by WGN-TV. The other 3 games against the Cubs are WLS-TV telecasts. http://www.kcrg.com/MLB2015 http://www.kcrg.com/subject/news/kcrg-tv9-...-games-20150311 Apparently Sox games this year again will be syndicated to parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana, as they have in the past, but many more games will be shown for free on local affiliates across the 3 states than the past because 'WGN America' no longer shows any sports. I see that you are located in southwest Wisconsin, which is blackout territory for the White Sox, Cubs, and Brewers: https://cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_ass...torialmap.0.jpg And you are not far from Dubuque, Iowa, which is part of the 'Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City / Dubuque' market. I believe that Channel 9 KCRG-TV is your nearest ABC affiliate. Does your cable or dish company carry KCRG-TV and any of it's sub-channels? If you can't receive KCRG-TV on cable or dish, you might be able to using an antenna. According to this map from the FCC, you are located within the coverage area of this TV station which transmits from a tower located halfway between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo: http://www.bing.com/maps/?mapurl=http://tr...%26state=IA.kml But a problem with KCRG-TV is that the channel still transmits on a VHF frequency which is now harder to receive than UHF. After the 2009 digital transition, most VHF channels moved to new UHF channels (but continue to identify with their former VHF channel). KCRG-TV wasn't allowed to move to UHF, so you may need an outdoor roof antenna to receive the TV station. Regarding the other 107 games: 1 game is televised on regular Fox free TV, 1 game on ESPN2 (also on CSN Chicago), 98 games on CSN Chicago, and 8 games on CSN+ / CLTV. Are you certain that 'CSN Chicago' is not available from any pay TV service in your area? I heard that viewers in Indianapolis, for example, can receive 'CSN Chicago' on AT&T U-verse but not on cable. I visited Cedar Rapids last year, and I was able to watch a 'CSN Chicago' Sox game in my hotel room in High Def.
