Also, MLB Network will carry the game in some parts of the country. At the same time, MLB Network is also airing L.A. Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals, so that game will be shown instead in other parts of the country. I think some areas will get neither game because the White Sox and Cardinals zones overlap at some locations. Does anybody know if MLB Network will use their own announcers, or does MLB Network use the feed of one of the 2 teams (White Sox or Astros)? http://m.mlb.com/network/shows/?id=live_games .

  7. No it's not. WMVP has one of the best AM signals in the entire USA. There are only 57 '50,000 Watt Clear Channel' radio stations in the United States (90 in North America). WMVP is one of the 57 stations, out of nearly 5,000 AM stations in the country. There are 2 types of clear channel stations: 1) Continental (28 stations in USA) - only 1 station is allowed to transmit on the frequency day and night with 50,000 watts. 670 WSCR, 720 WGN, 780 WBBM, and 890 WLS belong to this category. 2) Regional (29 stations in USA) - up to 2 or 3 stations in North America can transmit on this frequency at the same time day and night with 50,000 watts. AM 1000 WMVP belongs to this category. Clear channel stations in Chicago, Seattle and Mexico City transmit on AM 1000. Therefore, WMVP does not reach some distant states at night compared to WSCR, WGN, WBBM, or WLS, but the signal is very good in the Chicago metro area.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) Doesn't Paciorek live in Atlanta? I could be wrong. Or Detroit? I wouldn't want to make that long trip either, unless I was already out in California. Jack McDowell has been on the periphery a few times as well, but perhaps he's too outspoken/controversial for JR's taste. Tom Paciorek is originally from Detroit, but I believe he lives outside Atlanta. I don't think the distance really mattered because Tom was only announcing a few road series per season. My hope is that Aaron Rowand is trying out this weekend for other future projects with the Sox, and that Tom returns to the booth in the future with Hawk when Steve Stone is skipping a road series. Jack McDowell is an anti-ownership guy, just like Steve Lyons but I read somewhere that Steve Lyons is now announcing games for the Red Sox.
  9. QUOTE (Mike F. @ May 14, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) I didn't like Huff anyway. Rowand should be way better. But Aaron Rowand is replacing Tom Paciorek. I believe Steve Stone's absence at the series in Oakland was planned in advance. In recent seasons, I recall Steve always skips a few series on the road. Previously, Tom Paciorek was the substitute during Steve's planned absences. I always liked Wimpy together with Hawk.
  10. Apparently the Sox are making a change this season. Last year I recall Tom Paciorek was the substitute on TV when an absence was planned in advance, and Michael Huff was the substitute on TV when an absence was unplanned.
  11. I attended the White Sox game at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Monday night, but I DVR'ed the broadcast and tried to watch the Channel 50 telecast when I got back home. Just like previous years when WGN Sports-produced games aired on Channel 26 WCIU-TV, the crowd noise is way TOO LOUD, and I could barely hear Ken and Steve speak. Did anyone else notice the same problem? Last season I called WCIU-TV, and I asked to speak to anyone from the Engineering Department to complain, but the Receptionist at 'The U' refused to transfer my call. She blamed the problem entirely on WGN Sports which produced the baseball game telecasts. I say both parties are guilty: 1) the TV station that is airing the lousy audio, and 2) the party that produces the lousy audio telecasts. Why is it that the broadcast audio is just fine when a Sox game airs on WGN-TV, but when the WGN Sports-produced games air on WPWR-TV (WCIU-TV in previous years) the audio is terrible? The next Sox game airing on WPWR-TV is 1 week from today, Wednesday, May 20th from Cleveland. If the audio is terrible again, I intend to make some phone calls.
  12. According to Robert Feder: 670 WSCR, 720 WGN, and 890 WLS
  13. The Bears refused to have their games on WSCR because Bears ownership does not want their team on a station that could criticize their team. The same reason applies to the Cubs, plus the Cubs likely want their games on a station that gets better ratings. With the most recent Nielsen ratings, WBBM(AM) has more than double the amount of listeners as WSCR. It is really not difficult to tune to FM 105.9 at all. Any listener within the Chicago area should be able to handle that. That's your opinion, but management at WBBM wanted the Cubs. I doubt the Cubs would move to another station owned by CBS Radio. Likely the contract requires for the games to air only on 780 WBBM, and any change to the contract requires the approval of both parties. And this is not the first time that WBBM has carried baseball. The White Sox aired on NewsRadio 780 WBBM in 1981 and 1982. LOL, WMVP's signal isn't garbage. The station has one of the best AM signals in the Chicago area. Perhaps the radio that you are using is garbage? The straight line distance from Aurora to WMVP's towers in Downers Grove is 16 miles. You shouldn't have any problem receiving WMVP from that location. Doesn't matter anyways because WMVP is not bidding on the Sox according to Robert Feder.

  16. I think the Sox already are on 105.1 WOJO, but in Spanish if you have an HD radio. The Sox' Spanish radio station, AM 1200 WRTO is simulcast on 105.1 WOJO-HD3. And you can hear Ed Farmer on 104.3 WJMK using an HD radio because AM 670 WSCR is simulcast on 104.3 WJMK-HD2. Sox games were broadcast in English on 105.1 during the 1971 & 1972 seasons when the station was known as WEAW-FM Evanston, transmitting in mono from John Hancock Center. The announcers were Harry Carey and Ralph Faucher. During 1971 & 1972, Sox games were broadcast on the following Chicago area radio stations: FM 105.1 WEAW-FM Evanston/Chicago AM 1300 WTAQ LaGrange/Chicago FM 96.7 WJOL-FM Joliet FM 103.9 WVFV Dundee FM 106.3 WLNR Lansing AM 1330 WEAW Evanston (day games only on weekends) I would not assume that the Sox are leaving WSCR. Jerry will decide based on whoever pays the most money. No radio stations are allowed to stream MLB baseball games on their websites. MLB wants to collect revenue for that on MLB Gameday Audio, or Sirius and XM subscribers can listen online. Of course anyone get just use a radio and listen for free. Even though both WSCR and WBBM are owned by the same company, I don't think the Cubs would move to WSCR if WSCR loses the White Sox. Cubs broadcasts on WBBM enhances the station that already has excellent ratings. For listeners that still want to hear news, traffic and weather, the FM simulcast of WBBM on 105.9 WCFS-FM Elmwood Park/Chicago is separated during Cubs games. Sometimes ownership prefers to have their team on WBBM and not on WSCR, which is the case with the Bears who would not allow their games to be broadcast on WSCR. Actually WMVP has an excellent signal in the entire Chicago metro area. The station is a 50,000 watt clear channel, however AM 1000 WMVP has a different pattern /classification type than the other clear channels (670, 720, 780, and 890). WMVP can not reach some distant states at night because the frequency, AM 1000 is also used by 50,000 watt clear channel stations in Seattle and Mexico City. That's not the case with WSCR, WGN, WBBM, or WLS. Anything is possible, but I doubt that WLS will have the Sox. The company that owns WLS, Cumulus Media, has made numerous new hires at WLS and other FM stations it owns in Chicago, but Cumulus is known as a very cheap company. I would say the Sox end up on WGN or WSCR, whoever pays the most money. Apparently WGN wanted to keep the Cubs, but WGN was outbid by WBBM, so WGN may still have an interest in airing baseball games.

  21. Here are the TV stations airing the next 2, free over-the-air White Sox games: Thursday, April 23rd, 7:00 PM CDT (Central Daylight Time) Chicago WMAQ-TV, Channel 5-2 (Cozi TV) - transmission is Standard Definition Widescreen (not HD) Comcast cable availability for 'Cozi TV' in Chicago area: Channel 341 All other cable / satellite viewers refer to this grid for 'CSN Plus 2' channel numbers: http://www.csnchicago.com/channel-finder Friday, April 24th, 7:00 PM CDT (Central Daylight Time) - 6 TV stations Chicago WGN-TV, Channel 9 (The CW) Rockford WREX, Channel 13-3 (Me TV) Quad Cities WQAD-TV Moline, Channel 8-3 (my network TV) Cedar Rapids / Waterloo / Iowa City KCRG-TV Cedar Rapids, Channel 9-2 (my network TV) Peoria / Bloomington, IL WAOE Peoria, Channel 59 (my network TV) South Bend WSJV Elkhart, IN Channel 28-2 (H&I Heroes & Icons)
  22. LOL! Superstitious By the way, I called WMAQ-TV today and spoke to their engineering department. The black bars problem on the left and right side of the screen was corrected today between 1PM-2PM. For now on, the bars on the sides will only appear when they are supposed to, and not when the source is sending a 16 X 9 production to the station. Charlie's Angels will no longer have any black bars on the sides and the beginning/ending credits will not be trimmed off. The previous problem would not have effected the Sox telecast tonite anyways because the game is not getting sent to the station from the same satellite.
  23. QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Can't wait to watch this game on Cozi TV or whatever. Do they broadcast in hi def? I'm only half joking. No, 'Cozi TV' broadcasts in Standard Def Widescreen. But they can't seem to get the 'Widescreen' part correct. The network and the local affiliate (WMAQ-TV Channel 5-2) both broadcast in 'Widescreen', but for some reason the station locally always has black bars at the left and right sides of the screen which isn't correct. 'Cozi TV' is available on Comcast channel 341, and for free over-the-air on WMAQ-TV Channel 5-2. Other cable / satellite viewers who receive 'CSN Plus 2' on a different alternate channel, might be able to get the game in High Def. Here are the channels where the game can be found: http://www.csnchicago.com/channel-finder Another thing, the game starts at 7:10 PM CDT--not CST. CDT (Central Daylight Time) began in March, which is when CST (Central Standard Time) ended.
  24. For viewers in the Chicago area, Rockford, and South Bend who have cable TV, but not HD, the game tonite is televised on CLTV. Here is where you can find the appropriate channel number for CLTV: http://50.87.175.119/CLTV/ChannelGuide.html And for viewers who have HD, the game tonite will be shown on CSN+ (at a different channel number than CLTV). This grid shows the channel numbers for CSN+ in the Chicago area. Outside the Chicago area, type in your zip code at the lower left for channel numbers: http://www.csnchicago.com/channel-finder
  25. Sorry, the CSN grid is Chicagoland only. For outside Chicago area, the zip code needs to be typed in the box at the lower left.
