  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) And who knows about using the new method that some have had done that was a super fast return Seth Manness had the new method and was back pitching in about 7 months. He is doing well with KC now. However, you have to not have a complete tear, it really just has to be frayed so there is no transplant done.
  2. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) Do we think a top 3 pick in 2019 is likely, or even desirable? I think we've got to be better than that with Moncada/Fulmer/Giolito/Lopez contributing at MLB in 2018. Not contending yet, but if we totally suck, I think that's a bad turn for some of our first tier... I am with you, we are not absolutely terrible right now so its a stretch to be that bad.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) Another tidbit from Law. Jim 3:45 Where would Luis Robert go in this draft class? Keith Law 3:45 Probably middle of the first round. He just loses credibility there.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Wonder what move up today means, that he's a likelihood of being selected today? Hearing it is possible that McKenzie Gore could also go #1 overall.
  5. Unfortunately the Rockies could not be a partner, their rookies are tearing it up. I was hoping we would have pulled the trigger in the offseason with them and landed Jeff Hoffman and another stud but I guess the Rocks knew what they had. I saw Hoffman in college many times and he would have been the #1 pick if he didnt need tommy john during his senior year. Right now he is 4-0 with some of the best stuff I have seen from a young pitcher. He has the highest spin rate on his curve in the majors. During the game the announcers said that he had not let up a hit off his curve or slider all year. That is 27 innings. He has some ridiculous stuff. The Rockies are loaded with pitchers right now so maybe someone like a Riley Pint could be had.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) Takes two teams to make a deal. His value cant be much higher, he has let up runs in 4 of 21 games. 2 of those 4 were when he pitched more than 1 inning. He has 1 blown save only. His Ks per 9 are higher than his career average. We need to move him soon to get maximum value. What other options do teams have for a proven closer? Herrera is garbage right now. There are zero proven closers out there right now on teams that are at the bottom of the standings. Unless the Giants raise the white flag and want to trade melancon and his numbers are not as good as Robertson. To sum up we are going to get a nice return on Robertson. If its not the nationals why not someone like the astros? They have Ken Giles who has a close to 4 ERA. And even if a team has a great closer, Robertson could make a game 7 innings essentially.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 29, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) Without looking hard, there aren't 1B's better than Abreu? Forgot about Garcia The only other AL 1B that are having decent seasons are Justin Smoak and Logan Morrison but Abreu has a better BA than both. They have a few more HRs but RBIs are basically the same.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 29, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) Delmonico cannot and will not play 3B regularly at the major league level. I saw him play this year in Norfolk and completely agree, he does not look good defensively at 3rd base. He would either be a 1B, OF or DH. I do like his bat though.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 14, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) More than enough. Robertson won't bring back Robles as part of a trade but the Nat's still have Fedde, Soto, Kieboom and Severino in their system all of which are quality prospects that should interest the Sox. I didn't include Glover since trading a reliever for a reliever doesn't help a team desperate that's for relievers. The Nat's easily have the pieces if Rizzo becomes serious about Robertson. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=was Why do people keep talking about Severino? He has never been a great hitter at any level? Unless he is the best defensive catcher ever then get another position player who has more offensive upside. He isnt even a top prospect for that Nats.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 11, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) That dumbass in the front row has a Mets Tebow jersey. How stupid. Unless its Tim Tebow, then its not as stupid
  11. Love the comet about Borgoueis. Like a comet he is back 10 years later. Thanks for the laugh.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2017 -> 07:42 PM) Seems to be throwing harder than last year I saw him a few weeks ago and he was 91-92 into the 6th inning.
  13. I was able to see Tanner Banks pitch last week. He was very impressive, had great velocity going into the 7th inning. He should be called up to Birmingham soon the way he is dominating. Nice lefty who could looks to have done well throughout the minors. Always had great control and a good WHIP. His K's/9 inning are up well over his career averages.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) No way they play in Columbus. Collins a homer but 23 k's in 61 ab's. At least he walks. Basabe two hits already. Tanner Banks doing well. Went to the WS game in Kinston tonight against Down East Wood Ducks. Just a few observations. Tanner Banks looked very good tonight and was still strong into the 7th inning. Collins hit a nice HR to left center, on another AB hit a hard line drive right to the SS. Basabe was impressive, hit one in the gap for a triple, then a single up the middle. Had a deep flyout too and he is very fast on the bases when he gets going. Lots of talent there. Brady Conlon also had a nice night at the plate and hit the ball hard. Also made some nice plays at 3B and showed a strong arm. And Aaron Schnurbush threw my son a ball before the game which was cool so we are big fans. He is a big boy. Saw a play I have not seen before. Pop up halfway down first base line in foul territory, player missed the ball completely and it landed and rolled about 2 inches into fair territory. The Dash player Ronald Bueno ran from the get go and ended up on second. That is why you run everyone out.
  15. Best line of the article. Gave me a good laugh with Will Lamb "If you google news search his name, you get pictures of premature lambs." On a serious note does anyone see Tyler Danish getting promoted anytime soon? Covey hasnt been lights out and if they want to take it slow with Rodon he is doing well enough to come up.
  16. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) I like the idea of you sticking around. Don't worry, I don't post much, less than 100 posts in almost 2 years. Go Sox!!!!!!!!!
  17. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 25, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) Love that. I don't like this guy, so I don't like a guy the guy I don't like likes So if Olbermann liked the Beatles, you would be more encouraged to dislike the Beatles Now tell me what else you like so I can be more encouraged to dislike that too.
  18. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Apr 24, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) Keith Olbermann just tweeted out tonight how much he enjoys Benetti's work so far for the Sox. Even more of a reason not to like him. Olberman is like nails on a chalkboard and as arrogant as they come. My biggest issue with Benetti is he needs to quit being so corny with silly jokes. A couple during the broadcast is OK but there are way too many. He is OK but not a fan at all yet.
  19. Lets just enjoy the ride right now of excellent pitching from starters and the pen. We know they cant keep it up. But you never know, lets look at each of them. Miguel Gonzalez, over his last 16 starts only 1x has he let up more than 3 earned runs in a game and it was only 4 runs. Gonzo has only had 1 bad year in his career and he is only 32 years old. If he keeps it up he is a nice rental of a veteran and could return a decent prospect. I think he will. James Shields- has been a solid pitcher over his career. The only reason he could possibly keep up a solid year is that he learned a lot from last year, he doesnt have the velocity anymore so maybe he learned how to pitch a little better. Lets be honest he will most likely end up with a 4.50 ERA and wont return anything Derek Holland-Pitching way above his head now. Maybe Cooper will work magic with him. Prior to injury issues a couple years ago he had a strong year and then the beginning of 2014 he was dominant the first 6 games before the injury derailed his season. He never seemed to bounce back. Maybe he is healthy now. Best case is he has a mid 3 ERA and we can flip him like Gonzo and bring up the young guys from Charlotte. The bullpen looks great, they cant keep it up but you never know. Petricka, Putnam, Jennings and Jones have all been solid in their careers. The wild card is Kahnle. He has always had a high K rate but so far this year his control is much better so maybe he has turned the corner. Swarzak is doing well but doubt he keeps up the solid pitching as he has never had a solid full year and will most likely end up with a high 4 ERA.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...UMGkKBkxSZIR.97 They have the Sox taking Louisville Prep OF Jordon Adell. Loaded with tools. Significant swing and miss issues though. 11. White Sox The White Sox would snap up Gore if he fell this far, but that’s unlikely. An infusion of pitching talent in offseason trades gives the Sox the flexibility to go back to one of their favored phyla of talent, toolsy prep outfielders such as Louisville prep toolshed Jordan Adell. Pick: Jordon Adell, of, Ballard HS, Louisville | I mentioned McKenzie Gore here a few weeks ago. He is basically unhittable this year. He is a lefty who throws low 90s and has great control too. Signed with ECU where I have season tix so selfishly would love for him to go to ECU but it looks very doubtful. He is said to be asking a high number and Boras is his advisor I hear. Asking for a high number, I have heard 4 million. He would be a great get even though we need position players.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 10:59 PM) LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP! LOCK HIM UP! Avi or the original poster?
  22. So my son and I drove 2 1/2 hours from eastern NC to Norfolk to see the Knights play the Tides last Friday. It was his birthday present and we had a great time despite the loss. I sat in the 2nd row behind the Sox dugout and got 2 balls thrown to us by Sox players. Gave 1 away to a little girl who had a ball stolen out from under her by a 25 year old, he got booed badly. Saw Danish pitch and came away fairly impressed, he was still throwing 91-92 in the 6th and 7th innings. Made a couple of mistakes but overall looked pretty solid. Not going to be an ace but could be in the rotation down the line. Also was impressed with Nicky Delmonica at the plate, he really has a nice stroke and hit solid line drives. Also think Danny Hayes will play some for us at some point. However, Delmonica looks like he wont be a Major League 3B glove from what I saw. He just doesnt look very smooth fielding at all out there. Jose Vinicio is one of the smallest players I have ever seen, if he weighs 150 lbs I would be surprised. And he aint 5'11" either. On the bad side Moncada was very disappointing. I really paid attention to him a lot and outside of having a terrible game at the plate he just looked very disinterested in playing the game. He is kind of like the kid with all the talent who is just out there going through the motions, doing his own thing. On defense there was a double into the left field corner with a runner on first and he ended up going over to third base and trying to get involved in the cutoff and neglecting 2nd base. We have the SS, him and the 3b all within 30 ft of each other. He was just doing his own thing. He did make a couple nice defensive plays so the talent is there. Also I never saw the guy smile at all, he just did not seem to be enjoying himself out there at all. Throw in the fact that he didnt sign a single autograph before the game or acknowledge any fan, he then was the only player after the game on the way to the bus who just walked right past all the kids. I can see going past the autograph hound adults but there were a few kids there afterwards with Sox shirts on trying to meet him. Hopefully he becomes more fan friendly and it was just an off night for him overall. On the extreme positive side if there is ever a guy you want to cheer for it is Carson Fulmer. My 11 year old son wanted to meet him so bad and after the game near the bus he could not have been nicer. He signed his ball, talked to him, took a few pictures and shook my hand, gave high fives to my son and thanked us for coming. He was so great with the kids. Most of the guys were. My son got about 15 autographs on his baseball and it was a great night even though they lost. Forgot to add that Brad Goldberg was impressive, got hit hard initially by first 2 batters but came back to get out of a jam, throws about 94 consistently.
  23. Avi is just in an absolute zone. Good for him. Just crushed it
