  1. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Agreed. I know I'm in the minority regarding my favorable view of Hawk, but his emotion and excitement in the booth when the team is doing well is so fun to listen to...as is his rants and sadness when the team isn't doing well. Benetti just isn't like that. You can't tell if the Sox are up 10-0 or down 10-0 on any particular night when he's announcing. It's the same corny jokes and dime a dozen announcing that any other team has. Hawk is unique and I love him for that very reason despite his flaws. This is how I feel. I am bored out of my mind listening to Benetti. And another perspective is my son is 10 years old and we live down in NC. We watch the Sox on MLB app and he is so much more into the game when Hawk is announcing. He will rewind the game when the Sox hit a home run and do the call along with Hawk. "You can put it on the board!!!! Yes" Give me an announcer who brings something unique to the booth not some canned, boring TV voice like Joe Buck or Benetti. Hawk is our Harry Carey.
  2. It appears our fans want us to field more of a team like this.
  3. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) \ Actually the decision will be based on the deadline for printing the names on the jerseys. That is probably 2/9-2/10. There is no way he is traded after his jerseys are finished. This is most likely true. In the past when Sale was on the team it would not be an issue as he could just grab his scissors and fix the issue. But now he is gone so its a bigger problem.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) We did this last year and it was surprisingly popular, so here we go again. Here are my best guesses as to which players will end up assigned where, along with lists of players that just don't seem to fit anywhere. I covered the minor league teams a little more heavily than the MLB club, but every player in MLB and stateside affiliates is listed in this article. Unless I missed someone. Who did I miss? Who do you think will be somewhere else, and why? Thank you for this. I work in Kinston, NC and we just got our Single A Carolina League team back after many years of no baseball after the Indians Single A left. The Down East Wood Ducks are the Rangers Single A affiliate. Winston Salem will be our opening series and I will be there with my 10 year old son with our White Sox gear. We can start planning for our autographs now. Plan to make every series that the Sox are playing in and can give some reports back to the board.
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) The Rockies have some good young talent in their rotation. If Gray, Anderson, Chatwood and Bettis all improve this year, their rotation is actually probably ok. And this has been mentioned before in this thread, but Q is a curveball heavy pitcher. I think it's reasonable for the Rockies to be skeptical as to how that would play in Coors. He'd have to be fastball/change a LOT there. And with the prospect premium necessary to land him, given the extra risk, I think it's pretty reasonable for them to stay away on Q. Jeff Hoffman is considered to be the best of the bunch. He was supposed to be the #1 pick the Rodon draft year, prior to Tommy John his last year in college. Came back and went through the minors fairly quickly. Was the centerpiece of the Tulowitzki trade. He may be the best on the staff in the near future. Rockies prospects Hoffman #2
  6. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 08:51 PM) Every team would like to have a stud like Jose Quintana. But which club will pay the price in prospects? https://t.co/9I6L3tZWjw #HotStove https://t.co/FeRffkHWgd https://twitter.com/MLB/status/818632534552547328 Only thing i had an issue is with them calling Quintana a 2 or 3 starter. Hes a number 1 or 2 on most teams Enjoyable article. This line made me laugh Just for the record, eight of the 10 guys on this list are pitchers, which leads me to the following conclusion: Never, ever, under any circumstances, acquire a pitcher. Which lends credence to stockpiling pitchers because so many dont pan out. But when you get a good young one it is gold.
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) Not really. As I said, it doesn't really count as doing them a favour when they could just do it to another team and probably get something back for it rather than give something away. What contending team is going to give up any decent prospect for Gardner or Headley? They have little value at that salary for the next 2 years. Its 2 average aging players on bad contracts. You have to give them away to be rid of the contracts. The Padres took a ton of Shields salary to get rid of him, if the Yanks just get rid of those guys and have to pay nothing they are happy. You are not going to send them to a bad team and get something in return as they have no use for them and don't want to give up prospects.
  8. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) Right, they were worth 2.6 (Headley) and 2.4 WAR (Gardner) last year and are owed $26m/2 years, and $23m/2 years respectively, if they really wanted to give them away they wouldn't have to include a top prospect to do so. The point is you are doing the yanks a favor by taking on the contract and saving them a ton of money and getting rid of guys who are on the downside of their career and blocking playing time for their young players. It is exactly what the White Sox should use in negotiations. The negotiations are more than the value of the player on the field. You really think they could get anything from anyone for those guys? You are taking on guys nobody wants to sweeten the deal for the Yanks. Glad some of you aren't negotiating for us.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) They certainly don't add a lot of value in deals. If it means trading Robertson and taking back one of these guys to get a good return then do it. Gardner last 2 years is about the same as Eaton in stats but about 20 pts lower in average and 10 pts lower in OBP. Steals a few more bases. Headley about the same with a 30 pt lower average and OBP but still not a terrible ballplayer. A real positive about these guys is that they have each averaged over 150 games played per year over the last 4 years. They have stayed healthy.
  10. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Gardner and Headley are not negative value pieces and may actually give the Sox a couple guys to flip at the deadline. And really I'm not on board with the idea of breaking loss records, having a watchable MLB team would be nice. Exactly, you have to field a team so get good character players and guys who have something to prove. Both of those guys seem like good character guys and they are steady decent ballplayers. They are old, but not ancient. 32 and 33 right now.
  11. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Clearly you can see I'm losing my mind as well So why not take back Headley in a deal, pay a little Robertson salary and get the huge haul we want. The yanks are one of the few teams that could use some salary relief from the luxury tax. We can afford to take it on. Headley is due 13 million in each of the next 2 years. Maybe Headley has a fantastic first half and we can unload him to a team in need at the deadline. If not he keeps the seat warm for our prospects and could be a good veteran in the clubhouse to help teach the youngsters. I don't recall him being a bad teammate
  12. I would trade Avi Garcia or Dioner Navarro for a couple of uncut throwback jerseys and a couple boxes of balls.
  13. Hawk was talking last night its about a manager bringing the most out of their players. Robin is not very fiery and he is not an old baseball man like a Joe Maddon or a Terry Collins. Someone like Rowand is very fiery, we were better under Ozzie and he had that type of persionality. Baseball is not a hard game to necessarily understand. Could be a better match then Ventura.
  14. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) Have you watched any of the games this year? You have to literally have your head in the sand to think "we'd be in the running with another bat". Our offensive statistics are putrid & one player wouldn't change that. I have watched almost all the games this year. If we had replaced a Avi Garcia/JB Shuck combo with a Jay Bruce at the beginning of the year we would be in the running. He basically doubles their output. And we didnt pull the trigger at the beginning of the year. I guess I wasnt clear in what I was saying. I meant if we had done it at the beginning of the year or about 40 games ago. Not now, its time to throw in the towel and sell. Shields is pitching well now, get rid of him, Gonzo unload, Robertson get what you can. Sale can bring back 3-4 major leaguers so its time to do it.
  15. This team could really be in the running if it had another bat or two. The pitching has been very good for a while now. Shields, Sale, Q and Gonzo have been as good as anyone. Yet we consistently lose 1 run games. 9 of our last 23 games we have scored 0 or 1 run in a game. That is absolutely terrible. Its looking like 10 of 24 right now. In contrast the indians have done it 3 times in their last 36 games.
  16. 30 pitches for hendricks is big this early. Get to the pen
  17. Great to win in the walk off fashion 3 in a row. Too bad its because the pen blew it every time.
  18. 3 crazy wins in a row. Way to go Tyler.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 09:30 PM) It is no win with Navarro. He has no bunting technique, but he can't hit either.Navarro showed you. Ha ha
  20. best we can hope for is a walk
  21. Shuck hustles every play. I will give him that.
  22. We shouldnt even call it a bullpen. Its really a gas can.
  23. Yep, wouldnt be bad if my internet went out right now
