  1. That is a nicely put together team that could definitely do the job of beating up on the Tigers and Royals to put the Sox in the position of challenging for the playoffs. Let's do it!!!
  2. A realistic offseason? Realistically I do not think the Sox will be in on signing Cole or Strasburg. Whether they play the games to string fans along like last year, who knows? Realistically I think they target a pitcher that they like, let's say it is Wheeler. The Sox could offer him a good deal quickly and lock him up early in the free agent season. This is what they did with Zach Duke back in 2014. While everyone was looking at Andrew Miller, the Sox targeted the perceived second best left handed reliever on the market in Duke and signed him by mid November.
  3. It probably did not help the Dodgers that they clinched so early. The Cardinals and Nationals had to play meaningful games deep into the season. The Cardinals especially came in to the post season very hot. I won't count the Nationals out though after their thrilling comebacks in both elimination games so far these playoffs. This NLCS should be a fun series. As far as I am concerned going forward this post season....anyone but the friggin Yankees please!!
  4. I know they haven't had a world series win in this stretch, but the Dodgers have been to the post season every year since 2014 I believe. I'll take that kind of sustained success for the Palehose...with maybe a couple rings!! ?
  5. Damn...Cole would be worth the big $ the White Sox have to spend. I just don't see them even being in the running for his services. I hope I'm wrong.
  6. In the article Passan calls Roberts a typically savvy strategist. To be honest, I never watch the Dodgers except in the postseason...but when watching them in the playoffs I often scratch my head at a lot of Roberts in game decisions. Maybe he is like Kershaw...great in the regular season but certainly not in the playoffs.
  7. I'll trade them Matt Rose and Bryan Flete for Schwarber Of course we would have to reacquire them first
  8. I went to bed with the Dodgers up 3-1. Woke up and heard the final score and without looking into it further immediately thought of Roberts. I have always found him to be a god awful in game manager and was shocked that they extended his contract last time.
  9. Well, so much for any thought of dueling McCanns behind the plate for the Sox next year...Brian McCann announced his retirement after this game, ? I guess I will just have to live with the fond memories of the Tres Garcias in the outfield from a few years ago.
  10. Walk the pitcher with the bases loaded...2 more doubles after that...9-0 Cardinals still 1 out in the 1st.
  11. I'm pretty sure Bruce Levine would say we have to give up Giolito at the minimum if we want "The Natural"
  12. Yowsa, this is a tough 1st inning for the Braves and there is still only 1 out...4 runs in for the Cardinals... Braves starting pitcher pulled
  13. I just think Walker is going to be a doubles machine with a nice OBP when he makes it to the South Side.
  14. Thanks for the wonderful feedback from you and NWINFan...It seems like those teams would have had a terrific opportunity for multiple World Series appearances and possible victories if there was the expanded playoffs that we have today. Teams with terrific pitching and defense might have had a shot once they got to the postseason.
  15. This topic got me wondering about 2nd place finishes for the White Sox and I looked back in the 1950's. In 154 game seasons, the Sox won 94 games in 1954...91 games in 1955...85 games in 1956...90 games in 1957...82 games in 1958 They won 94 games in 1959 to make it to the World Series. Since I was not born until the mid 1960's, I wonder what it felt like to root for teams that were good enough to win quite a few games but always fall short of the Yankees and Indians mostly?
  16. Followed by a quote from Kenny that the Sox actually made the best offer if you include all the incentives ?
  17. So does the premise of this thread mean the Sox are going after Cole or not? ?
  18. In that regard, any chance they just make him the qualifying offer and he accepts it? Vaughan might be ready in 2021.
  19. Let's have some predictions for who will be the first free agent signed by the Sox this off season. My prediction: Scooter Gennett
  20. I would love to have AJ in the booth...that would be fun!!
  21. Honestly, I do not think that he is going anywhere. The job seems to be his as long as he wants it. An interesting question is who will be his long term partner in the booth when Stone retires?
  22. Haha, I was going to say we could trade him for John Rooney and a producer to be named later.
  23. I think Rick Hahn needs to lock him up to a nice team friendly extension...we can always trade him to the Marlins for a couple of top 100 minor league announcers in a few years.
  24. I just don't like the idea of moving Moncada off 3B after his great year. #1 priority should be to use the $ to get pitching!!!
