  1. Would rather trade cease than dunning personally. Cease doesnt impress me at all
  2. Im willing to donate $20 to the fire rickey renteria fund
  3. If some of their guys had more years of control, id be willing to buy low on some of them. But their main 4 guys only have one year left. Im not giving up much for any of them at this point. if we’re going to buy low on a guy, at least benitendi has 2 years left.
  4. I would hope the mets decide to sell, but got a feeling they look at their team and think with syndegaard back they can make some noise. would be interesting if the reds decided to sell. They have some nice pitching, but their offense sucks. With bauer walking already do they decide to see what gray and castillo could fetch? rockies and dbacks should sell. Those are two teams without a path towards contention. Would be curious what marquez or gallen would cost. indians will sell, but not likely to us. Rangers seem to overvalue their players, and the only two worth trading for are lynn and gallo. Orioles and red sox should rebuild/retool. Austin hays, anthony santander, and benitendi could be interesting trade options.
  5. Is there a prize for winning the first 4 innings? Its the equivalent of sprinting the first mile of a marathon and being glad youre in first.
  6. on any given day, expecting 9 pitchers to all be on their stuff at the same time is a failing strategy. Thats why starters exist. So you have someone that can get you through the majority of the game minimizing damage. Then you only need to rely on 1-3 other guys. and rodon, who gave up 2 runs looking like absolute crap, has looked like absolute crap all year. Not sure id put him in the “really good guys” category. a better manager would have not needed to use rodon yesterday
  7. Hes this boards favorite non white sox player. Has been for years even though hes not that good.
  8. Because they have a major league caliber manager
  9. Omg, so calling someone panicked or wrong is an insult to you? How soft are you? In 3 paragraphs you got so worked up over 4 sentences. Somethings wrong with you bro. We just got bounced from the playoffs because our manager managed scared. Youre damn right im grumpy. Would be in a better mood if everyones slumps just continued into this series. Ive already said what i would have done, or how you smartly implement an opener. If your plan is to go with an opener, you use a reliever, not a guy that can eat 3-5 innings. one of 2 things should have been done, either letting dunning continue to go, or having started crochet, foster, or heur to begin with. Given the number of different options the sox really had for an opener, there are at least 6-7 different gameplans they couldve take that wouldve been better than the one they went with. And guess what, that 72% number doesnt mean anything since we lost. It also doesnt take into account we burned most of our bullpen just to get there...in the 4th freaking inning. And whats more is that we couldve still had that exact same probability to win at that point had he left dunning in, and our bullpen horses to close the game out. There was no guarantee that dunning was going to give up runs. In fact, in that situation, first and third with 2 outs, there is a 72% chance no runs will score. So stop acting like we achieved a 72% win probability because rickey took dunning out. Thats a wild leap in logic there. what we saw yesterday was an absolute schooling by a real manager against an absolutely inept one. One didnt panic when his starter got into trouble. One panicked at every bit of contact the other team made.
  10. We sign cruz and his production will fall off a cliff
  11. You should go back and read my post rather than trying to be cute with your responses thinking theyre clever
  12. What was the rangers asking price? Havent seen anything credible regarding what they were asking for
  13. Yes, you are wrong. Reading your thought process post was like taking a look into the mind of a panicked little league coach. Managing the game in the first inning as if its a 1 run game with the guy on the mound that can eat the most innings for you is flat out stupid and frankly inexcusable. As for how dunning was pitching, he was not missing his spots by much, and as stated earlier, 13 of his 14 first pitches were either right on or barely off the edges of the strike zone. Thats pretty damn good command. Two soft hits in a sample size of 4 batters is nothing. Sometimes guys get hits on good pitches (la stella). All pitchers get into jams in a game from time to time, even when theyre pitching well. Dunnings stuff was moving and he was living right on the edges of the zone. If a manager sees that, he needs to give him a couple innings, not pull him after throwing his first bad pitch. im also not second guessing anything. Was screaming at the tv when rickey was coming out to take him out. Only nerds whove never played baseball think that what rickey did was a good move
  14. Bingo everyone saying pulling dunning wasnt a mistake are flat out wrong, and so wrong its mind boggling. First off dunning WAS NOT pitching bad. Seriously, go back and watch the 15 pitches he threw. Second, if youre going to have that short a leash with an opener, dont open with the one guy in the pen that can give you the most innings. Absolutely stupid bullpen management by rickey
  15. Shouldve clarified. As the fg article that came out on him that too much of his spin is inactive because its a result of him cutting the ball. That doesnt seem to fit with a 4 seamer which you want to rise, not to cut. A 2 seamer on the other hand you do want to cut a bit. So a switch to a two seamer would take advantage of how he is spinning his fastball, versus the 4 seamer thats coming in flat
  16. Bauer. He fits too perfectly with his only wanting a short deal and the timing of our cores raises. Im also good with getting only one SP, as long as theyre a stud. Let cease, kopech, dunning, and crochet (if healthy) battle for the last two rotation spots. We should already have ozuna and unfortunately i think his price has gone up. I think a trade makes the most sense here. Im intrigued by benitendi and would be curious if collins plus a mid tier prospect could get it done. Both teams selling low. Nimmo would be preferred but i cant think of what sort of package of prospects would get it done
  17. He didnt get lit up at all. He was actually looking good. If rickey was going to have such a short leash on his opener than he shouldve started a reliever, not a guy that could give the team 3-5 innings if needed
  18. Did you even watch dunnings 15 pitches? His first 14 pitches, every single one, were good pitches that were within 2 inches of the edge of the strike zone (just went back and watched the game to confirm it). He was painting the strike zone. La Stella had a hit on a good pitch that was at the very bottom of the zone. The only pitch he hung was the last one he threw. rickey managed the pen today like a crack addict
  19. I would like cease to abandon his flat 4 seam fastball and move towards more of a 2 seamer sinker pitcher. If his spin rates can’t be improved on his 4 seamer than it’s just a meatball pitch
  20. I dont have faith in cease long term. I wouldve traded him, collins, and a mid tier prospect for lynn, which i think wouldve been enough. Might even have been enough without the prospect
  21. He wasnt forced to go to crochet that early. Hahn constructed a team that won big this year and has a core group locked up for the next 5 years. He shouldve traded for lynn, but he wasnt the one making boneheaded lineups and bullpen decisions all year
  22. Did anyone actually think rickey could pull off good decisions on a “bullpen” day? Shouldve left dunning in there
