  1. QUOTE (Knickname @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:51 PM) Exactly. And I won't be disappointed if he continues to struggle. Nor will I be disappointed if he gets sent to a lower level if his struggles are greater than expected. That wouldn't mean he couldn't return and excel. Did you come over from the Sox board on MLB? I recognize the name.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:37 PM) This is a great post. Keep in mind that typically Cubans are already behind the curve developmentally when they get to the US, and on top of it, he is still fairly young. If what you both said is true, and I think it is myself, then we aren't looking at 2020 contention.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:20 PM) Sanchez for now Yolmer is the ideal lead off hitter right now.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:35 PM) Well I hope all of the playoff games from 2020-2027 are played in domes Playoff games are played in late October when the sun is out at 10PM, he'll be fine.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:25 PM) Criticism is warranted, but much of it is overboard That's life. The overly critical nature will end when he consistently puts up good numbers. I for one never thought he should be leading off. I just don't think it's the right approach for him prior to figuring things out. That's alot of pressure and it is mentally taxing.
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:21 PM) Yoan could be like Alexei... starts off cold and gradually warms up with the weather. We'll find out. I don't think it's that, he is still learning the game and how to hit. Once he figures it out he will be consistently hitting .280.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:22 PM) Seriously. He's had 1-2 bad games this season and apparently the sky is falling. I'm a sabermetrics guy but jesus, it's been 6 games and people actually care about his rate stats? Watch the game, perhaps. He's hitting the ball well and has been quite unlucky, aside from today being just awful of course. He's been inconsistent for a while now. He'll put it together but the criticism is warranted, as many here are critical of Judge and he is lightyears ahead of Moncada.
  8. Moncada needs to leave the leadoff spot until he stays over .270. If the Sox are gonna keep playing like this I imagine half of our fans will tune out until the rebuild is completed.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:16 PM) He's saying Gardy should put a lefty in to have him bat righty. He's hitting poorly from both sides of the plate.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:04 PM) Another top 5 pick lol. I’ll take it Baseball is a sport where unless there is a Kris Bryant type, having a pick 4-15 really doesn't matter. Most players picked high end up busts anyway. The fans deserve better on a s***ty opening day than this travesty.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 06:02 PM) As it's been said already this is a development year. Young players take time to develop. Anyone expecting this amount of youth to become instant stars is very short sighted and hasn't been watching the game for very long. There's always ups and downs with youth, it's part of the learning process. I have to disagree. We are in bad shape because we have a s***ty bullpen, plain and simple. If we lost because of young guys who are our future are learning, that'd be fine.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 05:43 PM) Don't forget we're still trying to tank. I picture Hahn nodding in privacy saying, "Just how we planned this." Lot of highlights but let the bullpen blow it. I think this is the one mistake they've made so far. There is no need to tank this year as we have a lot of prospects to begin with. This year should be about growth and hoping some players surprise us. We also want to show growth in the W column for FA's.
  13. QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 05:40 PM) I am sure the people who stayed appreciate some free baseball. No one wanted free baseball in this manner.
  14. last year somebody made a Jose Abreu thread after the first few weeks and then from that point on Jose pretty much hit everything in sight. so somebody tried that today. lol.
  15. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 03:27 PM) Jose just saved Anderson an error...and an ump some backlash. That's a tough play for an ump. In that split second it's hard to see the tag and foot on base.
  16. Abreu deserves to be a part of this 2020-2022 team. I hope we do not trade him.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:48 AM) The roof was closed and the ball was jumping the entire series, I dont think the summer would have made those balls go farther. Nate was just fortunate they didn’t get elevated No it wouldn't have. Moncada would have had a slam, so we'd been all good.
  18. These are the games I want to see us win. We will hit conistently at some point, so let's win some of these tough gind em out games. I keep saying this but I want to see growth and so far the young pitchers have been good, Yoan has been unlucky but he will get there, Timmy and Avi are holding there own, and the untradeable Abreu is showing why.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 08:25 PM) It really appears they are trying to tank again. I don't understand what the benefit of tanking would be this year. We have a lot of high end talent and a top 5 pick this year. We need to start growing for personal reasons and to attract free agents. If we are indeed tanking again, I don't see us competing until 2021 at the earliest when the players would have grown and learned how to win a little.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 08:28 PM) Is there a financial reason we didn’t break camp with a Ross/Rondon/Cedeno? The Sox want their fanbase to tune out in early May and wait for the rebuild to be complete before tuning back in.
  21. Judge hit .284 52 HR's, 114 RBI's, 24 2B's in his rookie season. Striking out 208 times sucks but if Moncada put those numbers up with good defense then I wouldn't have a problem with his K rate.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 06:02 PM) Gonzalez was going to give up some runs, so no worries there, but I’m not optimistic about the offense tonight. Since game one our offense has been pretty bad.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 09:12 PM) I read it after the fact, too. This loss was pretty standard as far as what to expect this season. It actually was rather pretty considering the nice start by Lopez and decent defense and two HRs from catcher. If you want free agents to sign here we need to put some wins on the board. Too many good teams with money out there to sign with a 72 win team, with some hope for the future.
