  1. I think the point is you have to spend more time making them happy AND convincing them to stay. 1 extra year is nice but it would be nicer if we can get a second contract. We are a mid level organization so we have to play nice. If the player leaves anyway, then you tip your cap. At least you were fair and had integrity.
  2. The Cubs sucked but they are still a team players want to play for. They get a huge market, great fanbase, great experience and community, etc. If Bryant was pissed at the time, the winning coupled with the aforementioned factors would convince him to stay. Instead of strong arming prospects I think we need to do our part in making our team one where players want to come to, or stay at if the money is equal. I'm more concerned about this than I am a year of control.
  3. What work will Eloy need on defense and how will staying in AAA help with it? He's not a good defender and that won't change anytime soon. It's a great excuse for holding him until next year as I'm sure his defense will be good enough for a promotion in May.
  4. I understand why it makes sense to bring them up next year but as a franchise who hasn't made the playoffs in 10 years, we are in no position to piss off prospects. We need to call them up if they are ready to get the newness out the way the last month or two of the season. Next year, they can experience the struggles of being .500, which gives them added experience for the 2020 season. Rick and Kenny need to do their jobs and figure out what players will need to be paid and how much. They also need figure out a strategy to convince the guys they want to stay for a second contract, where pissing off prospects in the beginning may come into play. The Cubs can do this with Kris Bryant because they are a team players would die to play for, we are not.
  5. Complaining is free. Going to a game to watch your team tank with players who won't be here soon costs money. I go to at least 10 games a year but I can't fault fans for not showing up.
  6. I was at the game for my birthday sitting behind home plate ready to propose to my girlfriend afterwards heading to river north. A perfect day for me I'd say.
  7. I don't think he'll be a .300 hitter because of the power and strikeout rate. I think .275 but with good power, speed, and solid fielding could make him a seven year all star caliber player. I want to see high average and power from Eloy and Robert though.
  8. Not a chance. Teams will bid for him like crazy. No money will be lost.
  9. Those two WS teams came a few years ago. They waited forever and got to compete in back to back years recently. Now they will wait again.
  10. The Royals were trash for 30 years and then played in consecutive world series'. I think their fans are okay.
  11. You have some great points. The problem is we care about baseball so much and there is no other sport to care about until September. It's not easy to just take time off. I think another issue is Moncada and Anderson are probably the only two guys who will be a regular during our competing years. Lopez and maybe Gio will be as well. So we're watching a bunch of guys who won't be here suck it up. I'd rather have our fans vent and complain to endure these times than for them to lose interest and become Cubs fans.
  12. I stated that exact thing in my post. Mike Cameron was good defensively for us but turned his offense into another gear when he left.
  13. My disappointment team, maybe they didn't completely suck, but I was hoping these guys would kick ass for us 1B- Greg Norton 2B- Tonny Graffinino/ DeAngelo Jiminez 3B- Herbert Perry SS- Gordon Beckham C- Brook Fordyce LF- Ryan Sweeney CF- Mike Cameron RF- Joe Borchard SP1- Danny Wright SP2- Jon Danks SP3- James Baldwin SP4- Estaban Loiaza SP5- Jim Parque RP- Neal Cotts RP- Keith Foulke CL- Billy Koch Manager- Jerry Manuel
  14. I still look back at those arguments I had with everyone saying I'd trade him for a rental of Machado. Even for a year of him I'd send Gio away. I thi k he will be a below average starter but maybe a nice long relief option if he can rev up the FB again.
  15. Well sure but if that helps fans get through rebuild then I'm okay with it. Better than having our fans start cheering for the Cubs, which I'm seeing a lot of when I venture to the south side.
  16. Although I agree with you, just because we are rebuilding doesn't mean our prospects should look this awful. It's tough to deal with losing, even if you know bad times are coming. I'm not expecting them to be great right now but I want to see significant progress towards the end of the year.
  17. The games won't matter until these guys become good baseball players. You think wins just come out of thin air?
  18. Nothing will take the air out of the rebuild like key pieces looking absolutely awful. ReLo has been impressive but we need for of the big boys to step it up before this season winds down. It's frustrating because the talent is there, but positive signs need to take place.
  19. That Davidson at bat sucked bad. Swing the bat bro.
  20. Albert Belle was signed because JR was sticking it to the other owners. He was pissed and overpaid him by a mile to prove a point.
  21. The Yanks, BoSox, Cubs, Dodgers, and Angels will have a ton of money spend and much better situations than us. We are not winning any battles against these teams for the quality free agents. We will not outbid any of them because at least one team will overpay for each quality free agent. We may be able to get the sloppy thirds at this moment. Next year will be more reasonable for us.
  22. 2020 needs to be a successful season, even if it's not a championship one. Some guys need to force their way in and others need to prove their potential is justified. This fan base should not settle for an unsuccessful 2020 season.
  23. Who are we kidding? We lost a pitcher that hasnt proven anything yet. An outfielder that crashed back down to Earth. A few relief pitchers and a few outfielders that are meh. I'm more concerned about the injuries taking place in our farm system tbh.
