  1. I don't think anyone is saying sports comes first before life. I almost died in an accident last year so I get it. But sports are a great way for men to bond and pass on to their children. Sports takes us away from the harsh realities of life. Sports brings people together in other parts of the country. I was in Florida watching a Sox game at a Sox bar and it was cool to meet other fans and share stories. Again, sports aren't a substitute for life, but they do a great job enhancing it.
  2. I understand the gist of this post, but it isn't realistic. As men we enjoy our sports because we grow up loving our teams. It's a pride thing and gives us all something to bond over. There is nothing wrong with being attached like I told my SO's sister. She spends all her time watching the fake bachelor, Bachelorette, bachelor's in paradise, etc. Women have their TV shows and things they get attached to and talk about for weeks on end with friends. We have our sports.
  3. To be fair this happens to most teams. If our FO knows what they are doing then 2020 will still be a really fun year. Sadly, I don't think they know what they are doing.
  4. Being kept out of 2020 would be the same as losing that year of control.
  5. Had we waited til next year, we would have lost the year of control and the injury would have kept him out of 2020 as well. The tear was going to happen regardless.
  6. We need to find a real number two starter at this point. Proceed on next year and hopefully we will have much better luck and player improvement in 2020.
  7. I'll start by saying your post is just not realistic. No one is saying not to put the team first, but how does that fit into what happened yesterday? He punched a great game and it would have been nice not to blow a four run lead again. Wanting the win yesterday has nothing to do with a pitcher being selfish or not understanding the focus of a rebuild. It means they are human and want success when they can get it.
  8. It's not a one or the other thing. They can prove they belong AND want wins. I think fans in general need to understand athletes are people. If I was a pitcher I'd be lying through my teeth if I said wins weren't significant for me. Hell, when you go to an mlb page to look at stats wins are usually first followed by ERA. When you look to see who your team is playing the pitching match up pops up with their wins/losses record.
  9. They are human and stats matter most. Wins for a pitcher are what they seek most, even if they aren't as important as they used to be. We also don't want over pitching to compensate for a bad bullpen.
  10. You may be correct, but you said I was basing it off of absolutely nothing, in which case you are incorrect.
  11. He said he wanted to play in Chicago his whole life and actually wants to be here, like Abreu. I believe him because the available info validates that. If he wants to play here, and we pay him and we are winning, why wouldn't he want to re-sign? How you screw up re-signing him is by pissing off his agents and team. For them to convince him to bounce.
  12. Eloy's situation is like your girl telling you no sex til marriage. You are ready for it, and it want it, but for bs reasons you have to wait.
  13. This is one of the parts of a rebuild I hate. I know our bullpen sucks on purpose, but it is tough to watch our starters not get rewarded for pitching their asses of against good teams. We need all the positive mojo we can get for these guys.
  14. For all the checklist bs and plate appearance above A ball bs, he would have been called up if the Sox could lose a year.
  15. I can see teams getting fucked for doing this. Especially when you do like the Cubs and call the guy up the day after they lose a year. In our case, we probably lost Eloy for that second contract to gain one year. Not very smart on our part since I think he would have re-signed with us.
  16. We are two late 4-0 blown leads from being 4 and 0 against the best teams in baseball. Tank or not that would have been awesome.
  17. A 3.90 ERA would be 38th in all of baseball, meaning almost an ace.
  18. That one year of control will bite us in the ass since he probably won't re-sign if he is a big time talent. 1 year is better than another 7.
  19. Not every player on a team can be great. It's like expecting a 5th start to have a 3.70 ERA. If Anderson is your 7th or 8th best positional player, you will compete for championships.
  20. Renteria is like John Fox. Good for a losing team but not the one you will start winning with. The Cubs ditched him and became a powerhouse and so should we.
  21. There is no point in giving Shields a shot at any price. I'd rather sign a guy we could actually flip for an asset when another pitcher is ready to come up.
  22. True. I just think teams like the Cubs, Red Sox, and Yankees can strong arm players because they bring a rare experience that top players want to be a part of. We cannot offer that to top players at this point.
  23. Yeah this is true, but I'm sure Eloy can see right through this. He wouldn't want to miss out on earnings this year and postpone FA payday tmso that we can get a look at guys who won't be huge factors in our rebuild. We have to remember there are a lot of things to consider from Eloy's perspective. If I were him I'd feel as if I'm getting screwed over, especially since Kopech was called up and he was in the same service time equation. The notion that Kopech would have been in Triple A another calabdar year wouldn't hold weight with me either. The only reason we are hold g him down is for that 7th year which I think is a mistake. He, like Abreu, really wants to be a star in this town. If we treat him fairly, pay him top dollar, and we are a contender, I don't think that 7th year would matter.
  24. We have a six year window to try and win two championships between 2020 and 2025. We need to maximize that window the best we can and hope our front office has a plan for keeping core guys and replacing others competently thereafter. I would love an extra year of control but bringing Eloy up in a week may be the right thi g to do. Having our young stars up together even for a month can go a long way. They can bond and push each other to be better while building chemistry. It may push other regulars here now to perform better to remain on the roster. It may create a stir where a guy like Harper may give us a chance if we overpay him. There are fair arguments to be made on both sides of the coin. A lot of people are passing the idea off as stupid when it really isn't.
  25. Well I'd like to see Anderson and Engel as our 8th and 9th hitters when we are competing. If both can play like they have been that would be huge. Because good teams have players like this at the bottom of their lineups.
