QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) ya, their relationship was great. I guess season 2 is supposed to have a female lead. The show was incredibly well acted and I enjoyed it but as a character study it isn't particularly compelling. Marty is basically as cliche of a character as there is. A cop who cheats on his wife and isn't there for his family? That's never been done before. I just don't find him interesting as a character although Harrelson did a great job in that role.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 10:44 PM) Agreed, there's no excuse for that team to play as awful defensively as they have. They play like they've never practiced against a pick and roll. He obviously has a solid eye for talent (although Marble was already committed to Iowa when he got the job IIRC) but there is simply no excuse for that team to have finished 9-9 in the Big 10 and a team with that amount of size should never be this awful defensively. They aren't overly athletic but it isn't like they have a bunch of stiff out there.
  3. Fran McCaffery has done a really awful job with this Iowa team this year.
  4. What a shot by Ekey. Great win and close to the season.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Anyone believe him? No

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 5, 2014 -> 08:24 AM) Ya, that's what I got out of it. It wasn't just that part, it was also the mother saying something to the effect that she didn't want Ted to only live in his stories and that life moves forward.

So for those still watching HIMYM, the obvious implication of last night's episode is that the mother is dead at the time Ted is telling his kids about how he met her right? That just makes the entire premise of the show so freaking strange.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 4, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) I think the story of his daughter will be resolved in the final episode. They spent an awful lot of time on Marty's relationship with his family if none of that really matters to the plot. I get that it was necessary for his character development but it would be a very odd choice to devote that much time to his family life in an 8 episode series if none of that really mattered much to the plot.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 1, 2014 -> 06:25 PM) Beating three straight ranked teams to end it would definitely strengthen our chances. I still don't like the odds though. The odds are still really bad that they beat both Michigan and Iowa but if they did they would be in good shape to make the NCAA tourney by simply winning their first game in the Big 10 tournament.
  10. Also, Illinois' defense has been absolutely spectacular lately. Hill and Nunn has helped on offense but we are actually a much better defensive team since they have moved into the starting lineup.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 1, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) What was that about? Illinois was bricking FTs. Yeah, that made no sense. I mean their chances of winning there were incredibly small but you should always extend the game if you have a chance at all.
  12. The refs apparently decided they didn't want Egwu in the game anymore.
  13. Lol at those last two calls against Egwu. Just ridiculous.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 1, 2014 -> 05:37 PM) Miss more lay ups, Rice. That was a huge miss. Completely uncontested layup to put you up 8 fairly late in game. You just can't miss those.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 1, 2014 -> 05:30 PM) For all the talent Michigan St. has, they sure have played like crap for the last month. To be fair, they've been really banged up.
  16. Bertrand sucks. Get him out of this game since we actually have a chance to win.
  17. I will definitely not miss watching Bertrand play.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 06:26 AM) How many lay ups did Rice and Abrams miss last night? Nunn and Hill bailed them out. Abrams only missed one but he did miss 3 or 4 ridiculously wide open 3s. Rice had to have missed 4 or 5 layups at least 2 of which were completely uncontested.
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) He's recruiting like Bruce Weber at the end with similar issues with balance. I believe we should expect better than that. Sort of. The PG position is obviously a glaring issue but he has also done a good job bringing in good transfers to fill holes in the roster. We will also need to see what his player evaluation looks like since if you aren't landing top 25 players that matters a ton. Weber and his staff's talent evaluation at Illinois was really poor. The one thing that I really like about Groce's talent evaluation so far is he clearly really values players that can shoot and handle the ball. A good example was taking Michael Orris who isn't even a good athlete and couldn't shoot at all while not recruiting Van Vleet. That never made any sense and I know a ton of people who thought that was a remarkably stupid decision at the time. Now in fairness to Weber Van Vleet wasn't that highly regarded either but always take the kid who can shoot over the one who can't in that situation. Since Self's players graduated we have simply had far too few players that could make shots and were good ball handlers.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) This result isn't that surprising. The Finns are much happier with a bronze, while the game vs Canada was the most important for the US. Good for old man Teemu. Hopefully Kaner explodes on the NHL when he gets back after this tourney. I thought the USA played hard early, had some good chances (including the first penalty shot for Kane) but then once Finland scored they had a huge let down and have been thoroughly outplayed since.
  21. Poor effort by Patrick Kane on a penalty shot that would have put the US up 1-0 in the bronze medal game.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Evan Turner to Pacers. Indy is serious. He's definitely an upgrade over the current version of Danny Granger but he isn't very good and can't shoot at all.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) it will be OK until the US wins it. They are fine with the USA winning events as long as a European country is competitive in it.
  24. I wonder if women's hockey will even be around for the next Olympics. When you only have two teams competitive for the gold medal and neither are European you have to imagine it will be on the chopping block.
