Jerry Meyer now saying latest buzz is Cliff to DePaul. None of these guys know anything with respect tot his recruitment. Alexander has done a remarkable job keeping this one under wraps.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) So if a kid commits to SIU, blows up his senior year and ILL offers him its dirty? I understand it hurts to lose a good player but its clearly not dirty. The defending champs called, offered, and he accepted. He has basically never not had an offer from them. He had a chance to decommit from Illinois 2 months ago when Lyle decommitted from Louisville and they said they weren't going to go back to Louisville and that their commitment was solid. The family has zero integrity.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 11:13 AM) It's dirty IMO. The kids committed, you shift your focuses elsewhere and that should be understood. Wonder if Groce takes a gamble on Lyle or Brunson now. Kind of late in the game for both though. I guess they're ok at PG with Tate and Crosby, but Snider would have been nice for 2015 and 2016. Brunson is a 2015. I'm sure Groce will make him more of a priority now but while he grew up in Illinois with his dad having ties throughout the country being the home state school isn't going to be a huge advantage in that one.

Also, because I'm not classy at all, I hope Snider is a massive failure if he goes to Louisville.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 10:08 AM) Nunn also thinks Illinois strikes out with both. That'd be awesome. That isn't Kendrick Nunn. That is a 247 sports insider. He is very connected to Snider so I'm basically writing off Snider at this point but that guys info outside of the Indiana/Kentucky area is no where near as solid. I'm obviously not feeling great on Cliff at this point (and doubt anyone really is) but I highly doubt that guy has better info than anyone else on Cliff's commitment. Frankly it has felt like Cliff has purposefully put out wrong information all week so that no one would know where he is going hence the rumors that he is dropping KU, committing to KU, going to DePaul, going to Illinois, etc.

This would be so Illinois basketball that right as things are coming together to be really good for years to come they completely fall apart. Cliff going to KU (if that's the result) wouldn't have bothered me with our class having Snider and Black. Disappointing but not a huge deal. Losing Snider on signing day would be an epic kick in the nuts though.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) No that doesn't count, because Hulls family offered to do that too and everyone cried foul... Remember? I actually defended IU on that one so not really.

Da'Shawn Hand deciding between Michigan, Alabama and Florida today. Sounds like it is Michigan. Have to question a defensive lineman picking Brady Hoke and Michigan over Alabama.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 07:31 AM) It's got to be Illinois. All this recent DePaul talk is just that, talk. No one wants their announcement leaked beforehand, so why not put out some rumors. After it happens... Then I can sit back and watch Illini fans validate how "Creaning" two players is different at Illinois than at IU, right? My understanding is it will only be one player at most since one of the transfers was informed (has to be Starks or Paul) that he might need to pay his own way for a year if something like this happened. Starks makes the most sense since everyone was clearly hoping he would get a waiver to be eligible this year.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 01:30 PM) I dont think thats the case based on the scout rankings. I could be wrong. The article said its settled. Using composite rankings Illinois will have landed the #3, 33 and 40 players in the country and OSU #18, 30 and 63. Each class also has an unranked big man.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Muschamp inherited a ridiculous amount of talent, he just did jack s*** with them. He inherited a team that went 8-5 Meyer's last year, had no QB and was losing multiple starters on the o-line. Meyer left a lot of talent for Muschamp on D but not a whole lot on offense. I'd also say going 11-1 in the regular season last year without a good QB is pretty damn impressive.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Florida is ranked below Buffalo right now. They are a dumpster fire. I thought I saw somewhere that Muschamp is just about even with Ron Zook at this point in their Florida career as far as record goes. They had similar records overall. Zook inherited a better team than Muschamp and didn't have any really good years like Florida did last year but also was more consistent. I would assume next year is make or break for Muschamp.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) For winning, sure. For being "the guy" and playing time, I wouldn't put Kansas ahead of Illinois. KU is undoubtedly a better program than Illinois but as crazy as it sounds with the gap between the two teams this year, with KU losing Wiggins plus likely losing at least one of Ellis, Embiid or Selden after this year you can make a pretty strong case Illinois would have a stronger roster around Cliff than KU next year. Of course if Self gets lucky like he always seems to and those three stay in school Kansas would potentially be a monster next year adding Cliff and Oubre.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) Also remember MSU will drop down without Payne and Harris, OSU probably takes a step back without Craft (though Rock you can better forecast that) Maybe Wisconsin loses Dekker. Indiana supposedly has a lot of talent with a bunch of McDAA's on the roster, but they'll be young. This is almost certainly MSU's last shot at winning big for a while. It only takes one big class in college basketball to turn things around but Izzo's 2013 and 2014 classes were both incredibly underwhelming and when Harris goes pro after this year the only really good player left from the 2012 class will be Valentine. A starting lineup of Trice, Valentine, Dawson, Costello and Schilling? is probably a tourney team but that is about it. And the problem for Izzo is that the 2015 class in Michigan is really weak so he will again have to look out of state which he has struggled with the last couple of classes.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) For his one year at Illinois, do they have the players in place to make a title run? Hard to say but Illinois will be very deep and talented next year. They will have 3 transfers who have all proven to be at least good college players coming eligible, 5 freshmen at least 3 of whom will see substantial time this year making the freshmen to sophomore leap and Snider and Black are both potential impact freshmen (my guess is Snider more likely then Black). The only players they lose are Bertrand and Ekey. I would be surprised if they aren't at least a Final 4 contender (Top 10-15 type team) next year if they land Cliff.

The other factor is that DePaul will no longer be playing in a true high major conference after this year. While the new Big East will be a very solid basketball league it won't be anywhere close to the Big 10.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) Egwu and Rice look good for Illini Bertrand had a great first half. The freshmen are pretty talented but I don't think any of them are instant impact guys. Hill is really skilled and aggressive but because he isn't a great athlete I think it will take him a little time to adjust. Nunn is the opposite where his athleticism stands out but he is a little raw in terms of his skill set right now. It is pretty clear Tate will be a solid backup to Abrams.
