2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) Ha, seemed to work out OK. On a totally unrelated note....anyone know anything about Abdel Nader of NIU and formerly of Glenbrook North? He's visiting this weekend. He is terrible. Not kidding, awful player. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) The good news is you live in a great area to get on the el and go either North or West. I typically do just that but also want to find some go to bars in my area.
-
Any Chicagoans want to give me a list of their favorite bars in the River North area? I'm new to that area and have hit up a few places but would like some recommendations as well.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) Could you imagine how ridiculous Marvel would be right now if they had retained the rights to Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic 4? Especially since unlike Fox they would probably do a consistently good job with the X-Men movies and would make a not s***ty Fantastic 4 movie.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Ah I didn't see it. I just remember the US release date was supposed to be the second week of November. Obviously that could change. Thor 2's release date is November 8 in the US.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) That trailer said October. It is coming out in November in the US. It looks like that trailer is for the UK which often has different release dates then the US. Iron Man 3 is being released in the UK a week before it is released in the US, same thing happened with The Avengers.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) Boozer just blocked the s*** out of Wallace. Yeah, no he didn't. I'm not sure he even touched the ball. He fouled Wallace and it was Butler who blocked that. Defense has been terrific by the whole team tonight though.

I still can't believe how much the change to the 3 day format ruined the draft for me. Just no where near the excitement for the draft that I used to have.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) I don't even get how rose can look his teammates in the eye. You have Noah playing on one leg (dude is a f***ing man), Gibson rushing back to play, Belinelli isn't 100%, Hinrich is beat up. It makes me sick to see Rose cut some jokes on the sideline. I won't write-off the series just yet. This Bulls team is very up and down. Tough to win though when the other team has the 2 best players on the court. Deng better step up cause he was absolutely terrible yesterday. Boozer was good. Defensively Hinrich and Nate were absolutely atrocious. Boozer was very good offensively yesterday. His help defense and positioning was terrible.
-
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 08:12 PM) Williams \ Lopez show Nobody on the Bulls showed any ability at all to stay in front of Williams that half. You simply can't switch Belinelli on him though, it was comical watching Belinelli try to stay in front of him.
-
Bulls getting absolutely destroyed right now.
-
Awesome start to the NBA playoffs. The Warriors/Nuggets game was a lot of fun.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 03:42 PM) IIRC we told Tracy McGrady we weren't interested that same offseason Tracy McGrady said no to Chicago. The Bulls tried incredibly hard to land him.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 10, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) Kentucky adds Dominique Hawkins to their recruiting class, which makes 8. Isn't ranked on the major lists but was named Mr. Basketball in Kentucky. Not sure how many minutes he expects to get. His other offers were from Purdue, South Carolina, Morehead St, Western Kentucky and Tennessee Tech. I imagine he sees 5-10 minutes a game because Kentucky doesn't have a ton of depth at guard despite their ridiculous amount of talent. They have 3 top 10 guards coming in between the Harrison twins and James Young but they really don't return any guards on their roster so they will need someone else to give them some minutes. Of course if they get Wiggins that changes things. -
Eric Gordon is terrible (not really but I just watched him give the Lakers the game down the stretch).

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) Well, once the NBA stuff sorts itself out things will obviously be very different. I think there are a few interesting teams at the top. Kentucky certainly has an obscene amount of NBA-level talent. I can see Florida being a little like Louisville this year in that they don't have a ton of pro prospects, but they'll be able to go deep into their bench with good athletes that can contribute. Arizona's frontcourt is pretty loaded and their starting backcourt should be solid. If Duke can get someone like Plumlee or Jefferson to anchor their defense, they've got a ton of firepower. To me, the top is a little deeper than this year's group. It's kind of a mess once you get down around 10 or so though unless some guys unexpectedly stay in school. One other note for your write up (note I'm not nitpicking just passing on information) is that Tarik Black is transferring from Memphis. -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) I've seen MSU really high in a bunch of places. I can't buy that until we know for sure that Harris and Payne are back. If one of them leaves, maybe like 15, if both leave fringe-ranking at best. I don't see how you can put them at #3 and Michigan totally off the board when they can both be top-5 or unranked depending on what happens with the pros. That's a lot of love for the Shockers too. They were really solid this year and will still be decent next year, but I have a hard time buying 11 with Hall and Armstead moving on. A ton of guys that were marginally productive stepping into bigger roles. Here's mine for comparison. I don't know why I like Georgetown a lot more, I just do. Other than Kentucky it doesn't look like there are really any great teams next year. Russ Smith is going pro by the way so you have to knock Louisville down a bit. -

Behanan has been mugged every time he has touched the ball in the 2nd half. Can't believe that isn't getting called. Also, Russ Smith is the only reasons Michigan still has a chance right now. Unbelievably dumb play from him. -

College refs, where challenging a shot and getting a clean block is rewarded with a foul and playing s***ty defense and sliding over too late as a weak side defender is always rewarded. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 09:07 PM) Kerr has hit it a couple of times, but it has been really bad. The refs have missed some of the most obvious calls I've ever seen (just absolute muggings on both side of the court, McGary blatantly kicking the ball). College basketball has to be able to do better than the officiating we've seen in this tournament. The officiating has been about the only negative in what has been a fantastic basketball game. -

Hasn't really affected the game because this has been all about Albrecht going nuts but the officiating in this game has been beyond awful. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) I'd say 70/30, but you never know. The longer this goes the better for Illinois. I have a lot of confidence that Groce will be able to make up ground and the fact that Alexander is friends with Tate and Nunn will also help Illinois in that recruitment. Plus, with MSU essentially not having a 2013 class and Harris certainly being gone by the time Alexander would get to campus, it isn't like he would be going to an MSU team that is a threat to win anything. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but pointing out that Jordan's double-nickel game was in his fifth game back. His play that year was also closer to his Wizards years than any of his years with the Bulls. He obviously had some great games but he really struggled shooting the ball.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) http://hawkcentral.com/2013/04/05/harty-di...lford-comments/ Former/current Iowa beat writer details how he had to be removed from covering Alford when his own niece was almost assaulted by Pierce. Interesting stuff. It really is too bad that this piece of s*** gets rewarded for being an incredibly mediocre coach by making an absurd amount of money and moving up in his profession.

I love that Jay Bilas called out the refs for that terrible call. I've said it before and I'll say it again, refs get that call wrong substantially more than they get it right. Almost everything you called a charge in college basketball is the wrong call.
