  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) If Groce gets Okafor or Alexander, he will change Illinois recruiting forever. He will have done what no other reent Illini coach has done and get a top national player from Chicago. Both could be one and done guys though. Especially Cliff, who seems to be warming up to Illinois. I've said it before. I think Nunn has potential to be a nice Illinois player, but hope fans aren't too excited about Tate. My understanding is that Illinois basically has zero chance at Okafor. However, on Alexander, I've heard that while MSU is still out in front Illinois has made up an incredible amount of ground with him this year and has a decent chance at landing him.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 12:09 PM) tallest midget. Did the NCAA ever have a Tim Donaghy-esque scandal? I'm not sure there has ever been one that went public but people are kidding themselves if they think that it hasn't happened in college basketball.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 28, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) The Patriots going 16-0 is a better streak than the Heat or the Lakers record of wins. It is also better than the Blackhawks. NBA officiating is abysmal. NBA officiating is actually damn good especially in comparison to the travesty that is college basketball officiating.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Peter Jok was rated #10 prospect in the country by Van Coleman, and they have Uthoff coming to play next year as well. McCaffery is really turning that program around. Maybe after his freshman year of high school but he definitely isn't ranked #10 in the country right now. If this is the list you were looking at I can guarantee that the list is way out of date. For one thing Tommy Hamilton is the #9 player in the country and his best offer right now is DePaul and he frankly sucks. Austin Colbert who is coming to Illinois and is a very good prospect but no all american is #16 on that list. http://hot100hoops.com/index.php?option=co...&Itemid=117
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 04:27 PM) I thought the same thing. Agreed. In the video Steve linked there is a couple decent crossovers by Rose but he doesn't really show any explosion at all.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) I honestly dont see them competing for a conference title anytime soon. They have an outside shot next year if there are a lot of early departures across the Big 10 which is possible (would require Zeller, Oladipo, Thomas, Harris, Burke, Payne, etc. to all go pro). But their chance of winning the Big 10 would more be a result of the conference being bad than Iowa being really good.
  7. It is comical watching the Lakers' guards try to play defense. They can't stay in front of anyone.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 10:36 PM) The 2001 Arizona & 2006 Washington games still annoy me, but its hard to complain after the breaks Illinois got in the 05 Arizona game. Speaking of the 2006 Washington game, two of the officials from tonight (Doug Shows and Gary Maxwell) reffed that game as well. f*** those guys.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 10:28 PM) Biggest issue, in my opinion, is that you're losing 3 players who spread the court very well and bringing in a lot of guys more known for their mid-range game. Not quite sure where the perimeter scoring will come from them the next few years. For all the threes they took DJ and Paul never shot it well from 3. Illinois won't be good next year but Groce will recruit much better than Weber and Hill and Nunn will shoot well from 3 eventually.
  10. f*** you refs for stealing our chance to win the game. I honestly have no idea how anyone defends college officials. Try f***ing suck.
  11. f*** refs.. Clearly off Miami. Not even close.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) Was that a legit block by Watford? I haven't seen a view convincing me of anything. It was. Hulls fouled him on the putback though.
  13. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) I'm not going to blame the refs for the loss on this one, it was a tough call. However, I just hate when defenders move under the offensive player while they're in the air and then get the charge call. Really, really annoying. It wasn't a tough call and the block/charge isn't difficult to officiate. If you call it a block each time you will almost always be right. Charges should be incredibly rare and Craft was clearly late getting over and was in the arc on that play.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 24, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) He's still crying about refs. Looks like he lost money on the game. I don't blame him that much on the refs. The officiating in the tourney has been awful and the refs don't even know the rule on the block charge call.
  15. I feel bad for ISU should have been up at least 3 and shooting a free throw on that clear block by Craft. College refs ruin the game.
  16. Iowa St. gets f***ed by an unbelievably awful charge call. f*** college refs.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 23, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) Indeed. This tourney has been a ton of fun so far. How so? There have been like 6 good games in 3 days.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 23, 2013 -> 10:05 PM) Gonzaga is who I thought they were. Too be fair, Witchita St. is a bad 3 pt shooting teams that shot out of their ass and the whole game changed when the refs ignored an obvious foul when Olynyk went up for a dunk and then ignored a travel by WSU on the other end which ended up in a 3 for WSU. Plus Bell was hurt and missed basically the whole 2nd half.
  19. The more college basketball watch the more I'm convinced college refs just don't know what a charge is.
  20. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 22, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) It was clean. The ref didnt see the foul based on him blowing the whistle after the ball was rebounded by NCST. he just figured it had to have been a foul. College refs are completely incompetent. Play s***ty defense, slide over late and be rewarded with them calling a charge. Make a great block and get penalized for contesting a shot. Makes for awesome basketball.
  21. Kentucky lands Julius Randle to go along with their 5 other 5* players for the 2013 class and unlike the 2012 class which was absolutely horrible nationally, the 2013 class is supposed to be a really strong class. Unfortunately Kentucky will be just fine and likely the overwhelming favorites to win the NCAA title at this time next year, especially if they somehow land Wiggins.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 07:13 PM) Well, I'm glad Illinois got a 7 instead of the dreaded 8/9, but I really doubt we can keep up with Miami. Here's to hoping Griffey, Richardson, and Paul all shoot lights out in the tournament. I don't think it really mattered much this year. There just isn't really any difference between the quality of the #1 seeds and #2 seeds this year.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) Illinois was imitating Wisconsin when they get down in games. Just jack up 3s because that always is a good idea. Well it isn't like we have a post threat (in fact throwing the ball inside to our big men is a terrible idea and I would flat out ignore them if I was a guard) and only Abrams and Paul can break someone down off the dribble on even a semi-consistent basis and neither is great at it. Not a ton of offensive options on this team other than to take and hope to make a lot of threes. I just hope that in the tourney against teams that don't have Illinois as well scouted they can have a couple of hot shooting games and maybe make the second weekend.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Way too much offensive talent on Illinois to continue having this much trouble scoring. Coach them! Lol. What offensive talent?
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 10:33 AM) I think it's easier to win in football without top recruits than in basketball. You can find lower-ranked players that fit your scheme, some high-energy players that slipped through the recruiting rankings. When there are so many more players out there, it's easier to find diamonds in the rough. As much as they are both "team" games, one star player makes a way bigger difference in basketball than in football. Schemes and coaching are also infinitely more important in football than in basketball.
