The Celtics got jobbed really bad on that jump ball call. Not even close to a held ball and Pierce got fouled a number of times there.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) Donald Sterling He is an atrocious owner but he never had a team until now that was a legitimate championship contender. Sarver had a legitimate title contender when he became the owner of the Suns and ran it into the ground by being cheap.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) [/b] Not even close. Really what owners are clearly worse than Sarver? He traded the #7 pick in 2004 to the Bulls (Luol Deng) for cash because he didn't want to pay the luxury tax. He came into a situation where he had a team set up to win be a perennial championship contender and ran it into the ground because he was so cheap. His first year there they had Nash, Joe Johnson, Marion, and Stoudemire plus a bunch of good 3 pt shooters so basically a perfect fit for D'Antoni's style of play. They made the Western Conference finals but int he offseason Sarver pissed off Joe Johnson during contract negotiations because he was so cheap so they traded Johnson. They then trade their 2006 first round pick (Rajon Rondo) for a 2007 first round pick that they later sold (Rudy Fernandez). They also traded Kurt Thomas along with their 2008 and 2010 first round picks for a second round pick in order to save money. Robert Sarver being cheap single handedly cost the Suns a shot at multiple championships when his team was set up to be a perennial title contender. How many owners can you say that about?

Boozer is playing better basketball right now than I've ever seen him play. I am skeptical it will continue but hopefully it does. In other news, the Suns just fired Alvin Gentry. Because I am sure it is Gentry's fault that is roster is filled with garbage basketball players, that Sarver being a cheap piece of s*** owner resulted in them selling a bunch of draft choices and letting go of every good player they had. Robert Sarver is arguably the worst owner in sports.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Who actually was responsible for Gannon's success with the Raiders, Trestman or Gruden? Gannon was very good the two years prior to Trestman landing in Oakland. His numbers improved a little bit under Trestman but he had already established himself as a good QB. Similarly, Trestman's offenses put up very good numbers his first two years in Oakland but Oakland's offense had already been really good the two years prior to Trestman arriving.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) 8 and 10 in the b10 will get Illinois in. Those Butler and Gonzaga wins are going to be something other bubble teams can't even come close to. It is going to be really hard to get to 8-10 at this point and I don't see it happening, but if they do, that would almost certainly mean they have an additional win or 2 against teams like Michigan, IU, MSU, etc. So between the wins against Gonzaga, Butler and OSU they have in their pocket plus two additional quality wins, there is no way they wouldn't get in at 8-10.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) LOL, so bad Groce. Just terrible. Yep. That was brutal tonight. Last two games the team has looked really unprepared, teams have Illinois scouted and figured out, time to see what type of adjustments Groce makes. I'm not sure what you do though since just about every player on this team has major flaws on offense and it is going to be literally impossible to get positive play out of the big men this year. I still think you just have to play Abrams, Richardson, Paul, Bertrand and Egwu together at the same time and hope for the best. I think Henry, Shaw, Langford, McClaurin, and Griffey are all worthless right now and pretty much negatively impact the team every second they are on the floor.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 09:15 PM) I like you as a poster, but come on. They are losing by 15 to Northwestern at home and your first thought is to bring up Bruce Weber? My first thought is that Groce needs to start making adjustments now that teams know what this team is running, my second is that Bruce Weber recruited the worst collection of big men I have ever seen and not a single guard that is truly a plus ball handler or passer. He also didn't recruit a single pure shooter. How you pull that off when your offense is geared around passing and shooting is mindboggling. With respect to Groce, we need to start having more movement off the ball while the guards are attacking. There is almost never a cutter to pass to when they drive (not that Paul or Abrams are really looking to pass anyways) you also need to change the action from the big men on the high ball screen, the big men all suck and teams don't respect them so have them set the ball screen and then set a screen for someone else to change up the action and give a new look. I would run more sets for Paul as he is the only guard that I feel can make a shot off a screen right now. On defense they are a mess and that is a carry over from last year. Only real difference is we are much worse on the glass. I'm a big fan of what Ryan does defensively at Wisconsin unless you have a team that is truly athletic enough to pressure which we don't have right now, you also need big men who can clean up mistakes which we definitely don't have. Pull off the pressure and make teams shoot over the top.

So I saw this asked a couple of years ago and didn't give it much thought then but who did more damage to Illinois basketball Bruce Pearl or Bruce Weber? The answer very well might be Weber. Pretty astonishing.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) I think the media went to manti at first and in the interview with the SI writer manti never once said he met her, because he wasn't asked. Once it comes about then you have to say you've met her and make up a story how so as not to look like a loser who only knew his GF online. The SI writer expressly asked Teo how he met her.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) Yeah, but we should add here that it would take some serious nads to try and stop that in its tracks. I'm sure he was upset (we'll assume he's not complicit in the fake girl) when someone he really liked died, but the hype was completely invented by the media. He would answer questions about it, sure, but players having a relative or person close to them die happens all the time and it was a media decision to blow it up. It has to be tough to ask to have everyone quit talking you up, especially if you believe that there is an underlying truth in the reports even if it is embellished. Once you know the con happened, do you run to the media and say "Hello, I'm a 22 year old man and had an online-only relationship with a woman who later turned out not to exist. You should all stop talking about that because it will continue to embarrass me." You might just hope the story goes away, which it was probably about to do if not for Deadspin. The hype was invented by Teo. He made the decision to embellish his relationship with his girlfriend (in the best case and was a complete fraud in the worst case) and tell these stories to the press. This situation is almost entirely of his own making.

I find this story hilarious and its one of my favorite stories ever because there is no real victim. I also love how a large portion of Notre Dame fans are so defensive about this even though no matter what story you believe, it is clear as day that Teo is a fraud at some level.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) A good comp for Te'o is Luke Kuechly, which is a really, really solid and reliable MLB who might make a couple Pro Bowls. They are valuable players that can help anchor a defense, but they are not game changers like some many of the defensive players in this years draft are If my team was weak at LB (Chiefs are actually loaded there) I'd look to take him in the latter half of the first round. Luke Kuechly is a much better player than Teo.

Disagree. He brought this on himself even if you believe that he was duped into believing his "girlfriend" was a real person.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) It seems quite obvious they weren't dating until late 2011. If this is a scam that has been attempted on others, it's possible he could have encountered her before the scam was on him. I would need to look at his statement again, but I thought he left the wording just vague enough that he could have had some amount of in person contact with an impostor despite most of their interactions occurring online. Notre Dame's AD said the relationship was exclusively an online relationship.

So what is the best case scenario for Teo here? That he was duped into believing this online persona was real but lied and embellished the story about meeting her and how in love he was with her etc, and then playing up his dead girlfriend for sympathy and attention even though he had never met her? I mean even if someone was to give him the benefit of the doubt that he believed she was real (in which case he is a f***ing moron considering he apparently was in an online relationship with her for 3 years yet never met or video chatted her) it doesn't fix the fact that his entire story is a lie. Edit: Also, the girlfriend you supposedly love is in a car accident and you don't visit her? She is dying of leukemia but you never visit her? Yeah, I'm not buying Teo's story at all.
