Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Was going to ask if any of you guys had any information on him. Not much to get excited about than? No. He had no business ever being offered a scholarship to Illinois and his skill level is very very low. I think he will probably be able to contribute a bit on the glass and defensively for SIU but that is about it.

2013 Films Thread
I can't wait to see The World's End this weekend. I love Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz and based on reviews this appears to be on par with those.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) This is such a stretch. The raccoon with a gun might turn off the non-geek public. Or it'll crush because If the movie is good I actually think the raccoon could end up being the star. The cast for this is really impressive and every Marvel movie has been at least solid so I have no reason to believe this wont be a good movie.

Pete Rose, Gambling, PEDs
QUOTE (TheBigHurtIsBack @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 11:48 PM) Amen. Does anyone really give a f*** about what he did? Did he cheat at the game? Did he take PEDs? Unless something he did unfairly impacted what he did as a player, it shouldn't matter. Period. Pete Rose should be in the HoF, no question. As far as greg goes, why does anyone even bother trying to reason with him anymore? Lost cause if there ever was one. Betting on games you are involved in puts the integrity of the game far more into question than a player taking PEDs.

ARod suspended for entire 2014 season
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) I'm not sure what took so long for a player to do this. I really lost a lot of respect for Robin Ventura when we had none of our pitchers take this action during ARods return series. Just bean the bum with a 95+ mph fastball at least once per game and he'll disappear from the sport soon enough. Players in the "golden era" of the sport had a way of self police-ing each other and the game has seemed to lose that over the years. I'd be more persuaded by this if the Red Sox didn't have cheaters on their team when they won their WS championships and PED users weren't incredibly prevalent.

For the SIU fans, Ibby Djimde is transferring from Illinois to SIU. I don't think he is even a valley level player but I'll be interested to see how he does there.

Anybody Found The Last Couple Days Easier to Watch?
QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 16, 2013 -> 07:01 AM) Not easier to watch yet, especially when they continue to bring Troncoso in with the game on the line. Don't get it. I would love it if Troncoso pitched in every close game the rest of the season.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Jake Peavy won a Cy Young in his prime, so that is not correct. And Mark Buehrle was no maestro himself, teams like the A's, Blue Jays, Twins, used to rough him up pretty good. You definitely didn't pick the right teams. Buehrle has a 2.48 career ERA vs. Toronto and is in the mid 3s vs. the A's and Twins. The Yankees absolutely have owned him and he has really struggled against Cleveland, Boston, Tampa and the Angels in his career.

Cliff Alexander's most recent tweet is just cruel if he doesn't pick Illinois. https://twitter.com/humblekid11/status/3670...1135360/photo/1

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) I don't think Jerry Meyer.is a random internet person. He also hadn't been touting Illinois as the leader for Black until yesterday and he said his change of opinion was based on new information so I'm thinking he heard something very positive for Illinois. Recruiting is fluid but I feel pretty good about landing Black right now.

Greg Oden signs with the Heat for the minimum so the Heat still have their mini mid level left. Ridiculous.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX LOSER!
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:18 AM) I still do not know how this offense is so woefully bad. We have a lot of s***ty hitters and no really good ones.

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) #WhiteSox’s desire to get quality return AND have trade partner assume nearly $24M left on Peavy’s contract remains significant obstacle. Obviously we have no idea what has been offered, what reports are true, etc. but if the sticking point on a Peavy trade is the Sox not picking up some of his salary they are being incredibly short sighted by not doing a deal.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 06:41 AM) Since it's a Man of Steel sequel..."Yawn". There is literally nothing about a Batman/Superman team-up that appeals to me. Basically Batman brings absolutely nothing to the table in such a situation unless you use the kryptonite crutch.

Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) I just dont get kids that are fine tuned athletes drinking. I would stay in and enjoy my path to millions. It isn't like it is difficult to avoid getting into trouble while still going out, drinking and having a good time. Plenty of athletes and college students do it.

Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Charlie Weis cut a good line today at Media Day. Asked how he has managed to sign some decent recruits at horrific football program Kansas, he said something to the effect of: "they want to play. I tell them, 'Have you seen that pile of crap' out there? (on field for Kansas).'" Not bad in this day and age of P.C. Was he talking about his coaching when he referred to the pile of crap out there?

2013 Films Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:54 AM) The Lone Ranger, White House Down, Oblivion and After Earth would tend to agree with you...with only World War Z barely breaking through well enough to launch a sequel. But if you've watched Pan's Labyrinth, you'll have reason enough to understand why this director is worth checking out...to me, he's much more talented than Zach Snyder, Michael Bay, Emmerich, etc. Despicable Me 2 was disappointing, and Grown-Ups 2 hasn't even been released to critics. AND NOW WE KNOW WHY. Critic Reviews for Grown Ups 2 All Critics (7) | Top Critics (3) | My Critics | Fresh (0) | Rotten (7) Yes, it's time for another visit to the Adam Sandler Death-of-Cinema Fun Factory, the big-screen version of a terrible sitcom where laugh tracks are replaced by the co-stars chuckling at their own awful material. Throughout, gags are cartoonishly broad and afforded so little time for setup and delivery we seem to be watching less a story than a catalog of tossed-out material. A phoned-in ode to lazy comedy and staggering stupidity. Almost aggressively more of the same. If you hated the last one, you'll be in misery all over again. If you took to the predecessor, you'll find this one a fitting continuation. The most horrifying depiction of inhuman behavior since That's My Boy. Or maybe Jack & Jill. Or maybe Blue Velvet. Another lowbrow make-work project for Sandler's jock cronies, SNL has-been hangers-on and Dan Patrick. Anyone who pays to see that movie shouldn't be allowed to breed.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22877...uit-Falls-Short WTF - The Bulls were the frontrunners from Monta? Get the f*** back on the phone GAR/PAX. Figure out a way...pay the f***ing tax. Monte is an excellent fit for this squad (assuming he can play within the offense and Thibs can teach him some defense). He should really allow the Bulls offense to spread out and I'd anticipate he'd get a lot of open jumpers with Rose. He could also get some minutes at the back up point and gives the Bulls two solid ball handlers. Wonder who the Bulls were trying to trade? I assume Hinrich would have been involved. Ellis a good player but he is a bad jump shooter. He would not help the Bulls with spacing when he is in the game with Rose.

It is absolutely hilarious to ruin other people's days because you have no self control and can't hold your alcohol. Hilarious.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) As of right now I believe we have the #3 pick, earliest I can remember in years The only time the Sox have picked in the top 10 since 1990 was #8 in 2008 when they drafted Beckham.

Interesting how much less reliable twitter has been for the NBA draft than the NFL draft where I felt like trades were accurately reported instantly.
