QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Turner was a backup plan. Just because you get an early offer (and junior year is practically a late offer nowadays) doesn't mean you are particularly wanted. I am not as knowledgable about the Moore situation though, so I'll take your word for it there. I usually refer to him more in the form of hearsay I heard because it's nice fodder to rip on Bruce. Turner wasn't a backup plan, they had 5 scholarships in that class and he was their top target at the SF position. He might not have gotten the love that Gordon and Rose got but they wanted him badly.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Illinois was the last school to offer him, he was waiting. Ryan was by far the leader for his services until Thad snatched him up. The father stuff isnt true though. His mother LOVES Thad, and she's the king in that family. http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/201...d_a_buckey.html http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sport...at=&sid=101 Turner said Illinois was his leader and that if he was going to commit early it would be to Illinois. A couple weeks later he committed to OSU. Ryan wasn't before the leader for his services.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Yeah Illinois' interest in Turner was lukewarm at best, as it was in E'Twaun Moore. They would have been in good shape with both of them had they wanted to be. Oops. You are simply incorrect on this. Moore didn't want to play with Gordon but Illinois recruited him hard. And Illinois recruited Turner very hard. He got an offer early in his junior year when he visited with Peoples (who is at ND).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) They played well against the Illini in Champaign this year, losing by only 5 or 7, although we all know games vs. NIT teams dont count. Illinois beat them by 14

QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Agree, but he still had that s***ty grin like he just made the guy his b**** or something. Can't stand him. I love when bad basketball players are cocky as hell. Also, Purdue is really lucky the game is being reffed the way it is. Their foul on every single possession of the game defense is working beautifully.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Just use the Oklahoma recruiting strategy, pay players. OU cheating yet again. They already tried that when Pat Kennedy was there and while he got talent they still didn't really win. -
QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) DMac's defense is one of the reasons it's hard to believe next year's team will be much better. A starting 5 of MD-DMac-DJ-Tis-Richmond is not likely to be a good defensive team. And turnovers will probably still be a problem, too. They *really* could use another point guard. Turnovers haven't been that big of a problem this year. Paul and DJ are likely to really improve their ball handling and that is a strength of Richmond's game. Richmond is also really good defensively when he wants to be and Paul should be a really good defender by next year. DMac has to at least become mediocre on that end though. His defense is embarrassing.

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 08:16 PM) I've tried to refrain from internet flaming questioning people's intensity, but this is ridiculous. Illinois clearly thinks they are too good to be playing Stonybrook and so are getting their asses handed to them. I hope they lose by 40. Something is wrong with a team and a coach that doesn't understand what this game was going to be like. DMac and Davis are such talented players but Davis has an incredible amount of mental lapses and DMac is among the worst defensive players I have ever seen. And when those guys are your team leaders it leads to a lot of inconsistency.
-
I'm shocked that Davis and DMac are off to terrible starts. I never saw that coming.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 07:20 AM) I think that Pixar has been good enough about releasing original films in a timely manner that they can be afforded a sequel to a franchise. Lets be honest, Toy Story as of right now is the only movie they have done a sequel for, and even though you percieve it as a somewhat cheap knockoff of the original, it could of stood alone and would have been just as successful(IMO). we just had another movie to compare it to. Pixar also has been somewhat vocal in being against the Disney-ification of their originals into sequels, and I think that was one of the main rifts that they had when Disney and Pixar briefly went their seperate ways. There are a few movies that i think they could make into franchise vehicles that could be fun and not watered down(The Incredibles, for one), but I think they will maintain their stance on sequels for the foreseeable future. They are also making a Cars 2 (coming out next year) which is the first Pixar movie I'm not really looking forward to. But they are also releasing an original movie in December of next year as well.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 12:49 AM) Does "Cars" really count? In my mind it's the only one that just didn't work. IMO, given the standard set by it's Pixar brethren "Cars" is actually a pretty mediocre film. I agree with that, even though I though Cars was a good movie it is definitely not at the level of Pixar's other films.
-
An unfinished version of Toy Story 3 was screened today and there has been nothing but absolutely glowing reports about it. Not that I'm surprised but it looks like Pixar's streak of making incredible films will continue. http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/arc...t-in-tears.aspx

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) It can be the greatest finale in the history of television, tying the 2 time-lines together with a brilliant twist that no one saw coming and sadly that still wouldn't be nearly enough to make up for my having been bored to tears for half of each episode so far this season. These flash sideways or whatever the f*** they are have been unbearable. This season has been terrible. Even the stuff on the island hasn't been that good for the most part.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) why is this show not LEADING to anything??? nothing seems connected, every episode seems like it's own little vignette that isn't tied to the others. so f***ing frustrating. I'm preparing myself to be incredibly disappointed and pissed off at the ending of Lost.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Hewitt's had one above .500 record in the ACC during his ten years in Atlanta. He's been a debacle, and he owes Jarrett Jack and Will Bynum millions of dollars for one tournament run. Can you imagine Hewitt coaching without elite talent. That would be an epic disaster.

My view on the NIT is that I'm not going to really care if Illinois loses or wins the whole thing but if Illinois is playing in basketball or football I will be watching and hoping they win.

Quiz is #1 seeds not final four teams

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Still trying to find someone on the internet upset about the starters staying in until 2 min left. So far, nobody but Felix. Wait, actually on about the 5th message board I searched I did find about 4 people. So at least there is SOME company. I don't have a problem with it but I do think it is stupid to have those guys in the game with that little time left when really only bad things can happen for OSU. Diebler almost got injured in a similar situation at Illinois earlier this year.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Getting to 20 wins was the dealbreaker there. I would have liked miss st. over florida or illinois personally. When I said that I was only thinking more about UTEP and Utah State. I forgot he even mentioned florida. Last post on this subject but Miss St. had a worse resume than Florida or Illinois. They had more bad losses than either Illinois or Florida. Lost a 11 games which isn't out of line with Illinois and Florida and they had less top 50 wins than both. The only reason they had a decent SEC record is because they were in the SEC west. They were 0-4 against Florida, Tennessee, Vandy, and Kentucky during the regular season. -

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) Every team you named, minus possibly minnesota, had a significantly better season than illinois. Florida, Utah St. and UTEP certainly didn't have significantly better seasons than Illinois. Illinois: Overall: 19-14 Conference: 10-8 Top 50: 5-9 51-100: 1-1 101-200: 5-4 200+: 8-0 Florida: Overall: 21-12 Conference: 9-7 Top 50: 3-8 51-100: 4-2 101-200: 8-1 200+: 6-1 Please tell me how Florida had the clearly better season? Florida's good wins were a home game against Florida St., a home game against Tenn, and a neutral court against MSU. Illinois beat Wisconsin on a neutral court, MSU at home, won at Wisconsin, at Clemson and home against Vanderbilt. Illinois's wins are much more impressive. Florida basically had one less bad loss than Illinois although their loss to South Alabama at home is significantly worse than any loss Illinois had. I'm not saying Illinois should definitely have been in but people acting like these other teams had clearly better seasons is just as laughable as an Illinois fan saying they certainly should have been in. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Cause it's pretty much impossible for a team like Utah State to schedule tough opponents. If I were a Illinois fan, I'd actually have more beef with UTEP getting in. I honestly believe that UTEP is the best team out of all the bubble teams, however, they had the worst resume imo. Utah State at least had a great win against BYU, UTEP has absolutely nothing. I have a problem with both getting in based on their resumes, but I've settled down now after I was initially pissed off. I think it is absurd that Utah St. gets in without scheduling a single BCS conference team and UTEP gets in without beating a single at large team all year (and actually losing 2 out of 3 to Houston) -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) ODU and Siena are two pretty solid ooc wins. And no matter how you feel about the Valley, it's still the 9th ranked conference this year and they absolutely destroyed everyone in the regular season and won the conference tournament. They also have the 17th rpi and are 4 and 1 against the top 50. They deserved a 7 seed. That being said, they got a terrible matchup in the first round. The one thing that UNI doesn't have is athletic guards and that's exactly what UNLV does have. UNLV is absolutely fantastic guarding the perimeter and with their length and quickness, I think they're going to give UNI fits. UNI has the advantage in the post but overall I think UNLV is just going to be too tough, I do think it's going to be a fantastic game though. They definitely deserved a higher seed than freaking California.
-
Lol of course Duke is the #1 seed that gets Purdue as their 4 seed.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) Illinois playing in this will be the biggest embarrassment for the program in a very long time outside of the Eric Gordon fiasco. A rare really bad/unlucky/whatever season like 2008 happens, but two times in three years, and now in the NIT? What a hard pill to swallow. I can't wait for the first round NIT loss. I don't see any way with the personality of the players on this team that they show up for this game. Mike Davis shouldn't even get off the bus because you know he won't be showing up. Well maybe this will teach him (because he is by far the biggest culprit) to take every game seriously.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) Two missed tournaments in three years. No NCAA Tournament wins since 2006, only one since the magical run of 2005. We can point to recruiting trail victories that have occured in recent years all we want, but the results say Bruce Weber is doing an awful job, and has taken a program he inherited in top 20 (at least) position nationally and brought it down to mediocrity since Bill Self's players left. They should be a lot better next year, but they better be, or else Weber's job should be looked at VERY closely. I've been saying for a while they need to be at least a 4 or 5 seed next year with a legit shot at a deep tourney run (similar to 03-04 or 05-06) or he should be gone. And I am largely a Weber supporter.
