  1. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:58 AM) Now that we have our first black pres., which do you think will come next? a female? a Latino? a member of another race, Asian, Middle Eastern, etc a homosexual? I think a female is likely in the not to distant future. Jindal certainly has a chance to be a president so it is possible that an Indian will be the next minority to be president. I would say that an openly homosexual candidate would have no chance to win the presidency and probably won't for some time. Same with someone who is Middle Eastern.
  2. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:37 AM) All I can say is Whew. Most interesting figure: 51-48% in the pop vote, that's pretty close. I can only scratch my head. Fox, CNN, and NBC all have it at 52-47% right now which really isn't that close.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) Tough loss for Boston. It shows how terribly hard it is to come back from 3-1 against a damn good team. Bosox had plenty of chances as we did. Some sluggers were up with a man on base in late innings with chances to hit the White Sox all or nothing type dinger to tie it. Like us, they failed. Tough loss when you have that kind of payroll. I would think Bosox fans are mighty pissed. It's changed in Beantown since they started spending like mad and winning. Some damn good high paid players made outs against that no name reliever at the end. David Price was the #1 pick in last years draft and will probably be a household name in the not to distant future.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) For a team who has struggled in the past in the tournament and now they are criticized because nobody thinks they're athletic as you have to be to win, I think an Elite 8 appearance for my Devils would be a good year. USC football and Duke basketball? Interesting.
  5. Wakefield is getting shelled early. I love it.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) Looking at their schedule, I don't see another win all year or a game I feel good about. Purdue, Northwestern, and Minnesota are all winnable for Michigan. The streak against PSU is definitely coming to an end next week though.
  7. QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) I dont even know what he is talkin about with Illinois For the other Illini fans on the board, did any of you expect anything better than another 9-3, 8-4 season this year with our schedule? Thats what I had us figured for, I don't know who he is talkin about that thought Illinois was winning 10-11 games and fighting for a National Title spot Illinois should be primed to have their best year next season, that's what I have been holding out on I don't think anyone was talking about Illinois fighting for a national title spot except for maybe one or two absurdly optimistic people that every fan base has. The team was ranked in the 20s to start the year and that is the type of team I thought Illinois would be and probably still is. I thought they would go about 8-4 and make a decent bowl before the season.
  8. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Explain the Twins to me then. They scored more runs, they lead the league in hitting on the road. The Twins ranked high in the AL in both batting average and more importantly OBP. They also hit extremely well with RISP. However, if you look at previous Twins lineups this year is an outlier. The Twins have routinely finished in the bottom half of the AL in runs scored. In 2006 they led the AL in batting average, were 5th in OBP but were 8th in runs. They were 8th in HRs that year.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) I just read some of the postgame stuff finally. KW hugged Swish and said, 'Start over next year.' That doesn't mean he won't trade him, but I can see the front office taking the stance that it was an off year which I don't necessarily agree with. The fact that his batting average, OBP, and slugging percentage were all down significantly from his previous 2 seasons says otherwise.
  10. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 12:24 AM) He doesn't hit for average, I guess. Of course, if he was still hitting ~.300 at age 38 he'd probably be considered one of the best of all time, so that's probably not a valid criticism. Oh, and he's also not "clutch", whatever that means. I guess a 3 run homer in the 3rd is like 15x less important than a 3 run homer in the 8th. Seriously, I'd like to see what most people consider a valid option at DH Dye? Konerko? Someone else? And since Thome's option vested, where's he going to go? That HR that sent the Sox to the postseason was also definitely not clutch. All I have to say about the off season right now is that if Willy Taveras or a similar player is the Sox starting CF next year I'm breaking s***. The only role that Taveras should fill on a major league baseball team is as a designated pinch runner.
  11. Absolutely huge base hit by Hunter. These last couple of games have been really entertaining.
  12. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) I'm going to celebrate when he (hopefully) rejects arbitration. He is going to want one last long term deal so I would be absolutely shocked if he accepted arbitration.
  13. The umping in this series has been seriously awful. Now the Rays would be winning anyways but the home plate umpiring has been atrocious.
  14. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) Who would you rather have back next year? Thome or Griffey Thome and it is not close. Griffey actually played pretty decent baseball in September for the White Sox though.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) All cock exposing aside, I'm thankful this series has been on TBS instead of Comcast. I would strangle someone if I had to hear Hawk blame everything on the umpires. Agreed, although MLB really needs to rate their umpires during the regular season so that only the best work postseason games. CB Bucknor has no business being anywhere near a postseason game. That guy is a f***ing joke.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) Jermaine Dye's defense in RF is so bad. His inability to charge the ball with any quickness completely negates his average throwing arm. Quentin and JD should swap positions in the offseason.
  17. How fitting that a Soriano strikeout on a pitch in the dirt ends this series.
  18. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Did or did not all of those world series champions string hits together or were they homerun first approach? Boston hits homeruns, but do you notice their approach? It is different than the Whitesox. All good and winning teams will be tops in homeruns, but it's when they are hit and how crucial of a situation it is? It's called being a smart team! Stringing together hits is not small ball, that is just good hitting.
  19. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) I mean look at what the last 6 world series champions have in common? 2001 Diamondbacks small ball, 2002 Angels small ball, 2003 Marlins small ball, 2004 Red Sox small ball, 2005 WhiteSox small ball, 2006 Cardinals same 2007 RedSox same Does Kenny and Jerry understand this? It works, why change it? I almost start thinking sometimes it's about money..What draws more fans?? Homeruns so kids can try to catch a ball Yeah, LOL to saying that the Red Sox played small ball. Both those teams hit a ton of HR and didn't steal bases. The 2006 Cardinals team had basically no speed at all and just got lucky their pitching staff was hot in the postseason. The 2005 White Sox bunted, but they hit a ton of HR and really after April "small ball" was no what drove that offense. Plus, in the postseason just about every big hit was a HR. I will give you that the Marlins and Angels played small ball at times, mostly the Marlins though. The 2001 Diamondbacks had limited speed and hit a ton of HRs.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) Don't forget it starts tonight at 8PM CST on Directv. It is actually airing on Wednesdays this year.
  21. f***ing pathetic defense there
  22. Anderson blows at the plate.
  23. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) I would agree with this if talent was the only variable. The Cubs' organization is so far in its own head about the 100 years and all that crap that I think they're in full freakout mode right now. GOATS AND BLACK CATS AND ROGUE FANS AND HAUNTED BASEBALLS.....AAAAGGGHHHH!!!! I really think that if the Dodgers can get an early lead in Game 3 the Cubs will fold.
