  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) Some of the scoring is crazy, I saw a girl just completely wipe out in a vault get a better score than some one who landed a different vault. A lot of the problem is reputation if you are supposed to win the judges seem to fall over themselves to make sure it happens. On the other hand I feel that no matter what the US did on pommel horse they were getting a bronze, the judges werent going to let them pass the Japanese and werent going to let them fall below the Germans. Its not necessarily cheating as it should be a disadvantage to have younger athletes than older more experienced ones. They are just breaking the rules if its true. And its basically impossible to prove as there is no real test to determine age. It isn't cheating if you break a rule to get a better gymnast on the team who wouldn't be able to compete under the rules? Not following.
  2. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Was I the only one yesterday who thought the US mens gymnastics team was getting the shaft on some of their scores? How is China getting all their medals? Ridiculous. Any sport where there is a subjective scoring system is inherently flawed. The scoring system now gives a competitor a starting score based on the difficulty of the routine and the US for the most part was starting a few tenths below the Chinese before a routine began. Plus, I think reputation plays a huge role in a subjective scoring system. Well known and top gymnasts or skaters tend to get a lot more benefit of the doubt when they make mistakes than their counterparts. I have more of a problem with the fact it is pretty clear China is cheating by having girls that are too young on their women's team.
  3. I thought we paid way too much for Linebrink after he really struggled down the stretch for the Brewers last year. I thought Floyd would post an ERA around 5 for the Sox. And I thought Contreras was probably done after last season. I thought Quentin would be good and thought he should get the starting job but obviously I didn't expect him to be an MVP candidate. I thought our offense would be a little stronger but Swisher and Konerko have both had down years which has hurt the offense tremendously. Crede performed a little better than I expected when he was healthy but I was unfortunately right that I didn't think he could stay healthy for an entire season.
  4. What a great job by Dotel!!! Freaking huge.
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) Did the colors of the lights mean anything?Because there were red lights and green lights. ONe of the fencers has a green light and one has a red light. If the fencer on the green side scores than the green light comes on.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) I think Hawk's stupidity sets the tone. But wouldn't it be awesome to see a team full of players like Carloz Gomez?
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) So do the entire KC Royals team. They are a disgrace. They fold vs. the Tigers and Twins at home and they'll kick our ass at least one of the games in the upcoming series, maybe 2. What a joke they are. It isn't the Royals fault that our pitchers s*** the bed last weekend.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) I think Ozzie decided with the bullpen's workload and the fact that he needs to conserve Thornton and Dotel for down the stretch...that he was willing to sacrifice this game to teach Boone Logan a lesson and end his White Sox career...I wouldn't be shocked if he never pitches for us again. Yeah, sacrificing a game in August in a tight pennant race to teach Boone a lesson would just be brilliant managing. If Ozzie is thinking that he is a complete dumbass.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) I agree with this...earlier in the year, we would have had Thornton in and Dotel warming up. Now, we have Logan in and Russell warming up. KW has really failed this pitching roster. We still could have had those guys warming up.
  10. Contreras looked real sharp in the 1st. Good to see.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) So we're playing Griffey Jr. against lefties, and giving him his days off against righties? Sure seems like it. Talk about putting your players in a position to fail.
  12. Not that it is that big of a deal but can I make a request for a spoiler and non spoiler thread?
  13. 1-0 USA USA holds on for the victory. They are going to have to play much better D than they did today for them to advance though.
  14. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Can anyone tell me why Buehrle started today? Didn't he just start on Tuesday? I mean, he's a pretty heavy guy, he just pitched 3 days ago, and it is like 98 degrees in KC with a 110 degree heat index... He also had some sore shoulder problems a while back. He shouldn't have been starting today, in my opinion. The last thing we need is him getting hurt, and you could tell he had spaghetti arm today. Especially with Toby Hall catching.... He calls a brutal game behind the plate. Buerhle pitched Monday so he is on normal rest. Hall may suck calling a game but it really wouldn't have mattered with how lousy Buehrle's stuff was today.
  15. Bad break for Konerko there. Well if there is a bright spot it is that PK has looked good at the plate today.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) Do you really have tremendous confidence that Wasserman could have shut down the Royals, the way he's pitched this year? I think half of Esteban German's hits this year have come against the White Sox. And they're playing without two of their better players, DeJesus and Grudzielanek. Nope. But I was extremely confident that Buehrle had absolutely nothing in the tank and would continue to get hit.
