  1. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) If you actually believe that the Big Ten is even close to as good even with Michigan and Iowa, then you have completely lost your mind. First off, bot have run crooked programs to put themselves in the positions they are in. 2nd off, the Big Ten isn't even half the conference that the ACC is. If Georgia Tech, NC State, or Maryland was in the Big ten, I guarantee that they would have at least 20 wins by now. Like I said before, it's damn near impossible to win on the road in the ACC. This season in the ACC has been weird because good teams are just beating each other up and it's taken a toll on everyone's records. If these teams were separated from each other, it's obvious everyone's records would be much better. The fact is, is that Illinois' SOS is 48th. Is it fair to Duke to have to play a tough non-conference schedule and then play a brutal conference shedule? As for your 1st paragraph, I posted that res[ect thing a long time ago, this was regarding Duke getting the respect they always get over the years and Illinois wanting more respect. Duke deserves it for what they've done year after year. Illinois hasn't won anything. Georiga Tech just isn't a very good team this year period. They almost lost to UIC (and should have if the officials didn't rob UIC). They lost their only two real non conference games to Gonzaga and then to Kansas who was without Simien. Maryland outside of beating Duke hasn't done a damn thing all year. Their non conference schedule was a joke and their biggest win was against a very mediocre Memphis team and they lost to Wisconsin and George Washington. Plus they have lost to Clemson twice. NC St. just isn't good either. They got hammered by a bad St. Johns team, got hammered by a mediocre West Virginia team struggled big time at home against Purdue and their only decent wins all year are against Georgia Tech and Maryland. SOS is not a very good indicator of how difficult a schedule really is either. Look at Illinois and Ok. St. They have played the same amount of games vs. top 50 teams, Illinois is 7-0 Ok. St. 4-3. Illinois has played one more game against the 51100 ranked teams 8-0 vs. 7-0. They have also played the same amount of games vs. 101-200 ranked teams. However, because Illinois played terrible cupcakes 200+ their SOS falls to the 40s as opposed to Ok. St. who has the 3rd rank SOS. Not to mention, Illinois is 14-0 in road or neutral court games. They have twice as many wins in those games as Duke has. Duke's non conference schedule. Tenn-Martin W Davidson W NC Greensboro W Michigan St. W @ Valpo W Toledo W UIC W Oklahoma W Princeton W Temple W Illinois non conference schedule Delaware St. W Florida A&M W Oakland W Gonzaga (neutral court) W Wake Forest W @Arkansas (not Arkansas true home court admittedly) W Chicago St. W @Georgetown W Oregon (Chicago I'll count this as a home game) W Valpo W Missouri (neutral court) W Longwood (RPI killer) W Northwestern St. (neutral court) W Cincinnati (neutral court) W Anyone who thinks Duke really played a tougher non-conference scheudle based on that is an idiot.
  2. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) I knew some jealous tarhole fan would bring this up. If you watched you saw Muhammad put his leg over Redick to try andd keep him down. Redick got offended and lost his temper. I thought it was a great call by the refs to just leave it as a double foul since both were at fault. Now I ask the tarhole fan, would you want JJ Redick on your team? Obviously you would. Redick didn't have a great shooting night, but he hit some big 3's and won the game for us with his 2 clutch free throws. He's better then anyone on UNC and everyone knows it. He showed that in their first game and he'll sbow it again on March 6th. It's great that people will still belittle this guy wh is gonna win the ACC Player of the Year. Some of these people need to get a life and start worrying about their own team. All I know is that Duke beat Georgia Tech on the road, and it's because of JJ Redick. Exhibit A as to why everyone hates Duke and their fans.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Clinic. Back to back Big 10 Champions!!! Wait till next week to celebrate that when we send off Gene Keady by winnning our second consecutive outright Big 10 Championship.
  4. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) WAR-REN CAR-TER clap clap clap clap clap WITH THE OOOOOOOOOOOOOOP More importantly, he is finally playing decent defense and if that continues he could be valuable come tourney time.
  5. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) For Illinois fans, are you guys nervous at all about playing at Ohio State to end the season or are you comfortable that you will be undeafeated until the Big Ten tourney atleast? A little bit, but it can't be any tougher than playing at Kohl or Breslin. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is that this is basically Ohio State's national title game. This is their opportunity to make their mark, but realistically, if Illinois plays well they win.
  6. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) he has the speed the NBA needs. One thing that would worry me is that Dee is probably one of the most emotional players i've ever seen and gets alot from the atmosphere around him......the NBA doesn't have that. Plus, dee will be THE MAN here next year, he won't have to be part of the 'trio of guards'. If he's smart he'll stay and get alot more attention next year. He has the speed and he does have the ability. I just don't think he is there yet, at least no where near a first round draft choice. His speed in the open court is amazing, but how many times have you seen him break a guy down off the dribble and finish in the half court or even get into the paint and create for someone else? The answer is not many. This is the one area Dee really needs to improve on and if he does, he'll be a very good NBA player for a long time.
  7. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) i honestly think dee will stay no matter what. I do too, but only because as much as I love Dee as a college player I don't think he has anything close to an NBA game at this point in time. His shooting is there and he plays very good defense, but at his height he really needs to show that he can run a team and consistently get into the paint to create for others as well as occasionally finish inside in the half court.
  8. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) i heard that too as i was leaving, did they ever explain why it was the highest attendance? i mean they've sold out the entire season, why was this any higher? Recruits in the building possibly? I know there was a bunch of football recruits there as well as some basketball recruits. I really have no idea though.
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) I'll take it though, because Powell was not fouled. If this was the play that Powell was trying to do a put back, yes he was fouled, he had his legs cut out from under him and I think he should have been at the line.
  10. QUOTE(Heather Lee @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Thanks! No problem.
  11. QUOTE(Heather Lee @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) I don't get that when I right click on it. I just get "copy" and "save picture as." Odd... Copy this to use it in the IMG tag. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/uploads/post-90-1108102925.gif

  13. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) Another issue though, is it just me, or was that clock a little quick at the end? I've only seen it about twice, but it looked like it should have been UNC ball with at least .06 left. I know they choked with a lot more than that, but who knows what kind of miracle could have happened. It looked like the refs were going to give the ball to Duke anyways so it really wouldn't have mattered.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) I don't follow much college basketball(as you may be able to tell by the next sentence), but Felton, or whoever it was, that took the ball up the court for that last UNC possession should never take it up the court in a close game like that again when the stakes are that high. Not only had UNC clawed back into it and cut it to a 1 point game, but I also noticed that with about 8 seconds left, there was some room to drive after he got Ewing to bite, and it looked like he went right back to Ewing. Poor last play of the game, whoever it was on, for UNC. You have to have more outs then that. It was spectacular defense by Duke, but to not even be able to get a shot up is horrible...simply horrible. Felton is actually one of the best PGs in America. Just happened to piss down his leg tonight. I'm sure UNC fans would feel very comfortable with the ball in his hands in almost all circumstances.
  15. Stolen from an Iowa board but this is reportedly an account of Pierce's recent incident. Pierce decided to go to his girlfriends house in which an arguement occured, the police responded by going to the girls house and telling pierce to leave in which he did. Then later on that night pierce came back and walked in the house and threw her up against the couch he then went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, the girl ran upstairs and locked herself in a room for 2 hours, thinking by that time Pierce had left she went back down stairs but Pierce was still in her living room, he then grabbed her and stripped her down and choked her and he said " is this how ur new boyfriend does it" and " is this how u like it now" later she managed to run out the door and get in her car but pierce caught up to her and grabbed the steering wheel but she put in reverse and got away, and she then went to a friends house , during this team pierce destroyed the 1st floor of her house and ransacked her room.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Really, 17-23? I thought I heard on the telecast Nessler or Vittell (sp?) say that they were 10-20 or something like that... Meh, probably heard wrong. Duke was 10-23 from 3pt land.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) As an objective fan of a team who has no aspirations whatsoever (Northwestern :banghead ), I'll say this in regards to the UNC/Duke game: -Nelson played very, very well off the bench for Duke. -Ewing is garbage. He gets hot and buries a couple of tres, but other than that, he was terrible. He was terrible against Maryland, too. -Felton, what the hell was that at the end??? On a more positive note, I think UNC should absolutely dominate when the game is @ UNC (they do play at UNC, correct?). What was UNC from the line -- 10/24? And aren't they one of the best free throw shooting teams in the ACC? I think you can chalk up this win, in a huge part, due to the Cameron Crazies, but that's JMHO. They were 17-23 from the free throw line which is very solid.
  18. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) Thank you motherf***ing Felton. 9 Yeah, he sure pissed down his leg on that last possession. Tough loss for your boys tonight.
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Well #8 Duke beats #2 UNC 71-70. Good game with an absolutely terrible final possession by UNC. I'm still trying to figure out why Felton picked up his dribble when he had a wide open jumper or could have penetrated.
  20. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) basically my thoughts right there. after the dee turnover i was like 'something's up, that never happens.' w/ dee's play though, we got the momentum back we needed to pull it out. Im w/ krush on this one. In conference play, on the road, in a pretty bad enviroment, you have to be nervous. Basketball is a game of momentum, it's easy to lose on the road. Actually, seeing Dee's intensity right after that when he was banging himself in the head is what made me confident we would win the game. Sure enough, he creates a turnover right away and then soon after took over the game.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) I honestly believe you are identifing symptoms and not the root cause there. WHY did their shooting go cold? They couldn't get into anykind of a rythm on offense because Michigan juiced the shot clock everytime they got the ball. They forced the Illini to play defense for 25-30 seconds everytime, which anyone will tell you is much harder than running offense. After a while it tires you out and takes your legs out from under your jumpshot if you aren't concentrating harder on O. It can also change the pace of the game in your mind and makes you want to run up the floor and rush shots you wouldn't usually take. I think the Illini have been a victim of the first part of that their last two games. I actually agree with this. This team up until the last couple of games has destroyed zone defenses all year. See Gonzaga, Wake, and nearly every other team that tried a zone against Illinois. My only problem with yesterdays effort was the lack of defensive intensity for about the first 30 minutes because when this team turns it up they just lock teams down and it changes the tempo of the game.
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) Champaign breathes its collective exhale. Ugly Win. That's two ugly wins in a row. I'm not liking this current trend; we've set season lows in points, in two consecutive games now. Against Indiana the team was in complete control of the game and won by double digits. The reason we didn't score as much as usual in the last two games is that Indiana and Michigan each held the ball for 25-30 seconds each possession before taking a shot. They've done pretty well so far doing this. Look at who are poorest performances this year were against: Purdue, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, and Iowa. Iowa at that time was a good team but the rest of those are just not good basketball teams. When the team needs to play well they've answered the call every time this year and I see no reason why they won't continue to do so.
  23. Why can't our reporters look like this. I might actually turn on the news once in a while. Her name is Melissa Theuriau and she is a French reporter by the way.
  24. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) that sort of happened with UCONN w/the exception okafor was injured, and they still won games w/his bad back and all, Iowa is still gonna be tough, for all we know they have some secret weapon on their bench. UCONN also had Ben Gordon on their team. Iowa doesn't have anyone near that good.
  25. QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 11:50 AM) Sadly it is old news, But Alford decided to bring his ass back for another turn on the merry go round. I hope Pierre has A LOT of sex in prison I'd wager he doesn't go to jail for this. He'll play in the NBA make a good amount of money and in the process he will probably assault a few more women and maybe then he'll finally see prison time.
