AL mvp canidates
1. Esteban Loaiza - some homerism here, but think about where the Sox would be right now without him. We very likely would be 10 games back in the division, you can't say that for one member of any other contender. Usually not in favor of pitchers winning the award but no hitter on a contending team is having a great year. 2. Bret Boone - gold glover at second base also producing tremendous numbers for a contending team 3. Frank Thomas - no other hitter in the AL has been as clutch coming down the stretch as Frank Thomas 4. Alex Rodriguez - look at the numbers and a gold glove caliber shortstop, enough said. 5. Manny Ramirez - he is having an excellent year but his issues in the clubhouse will probably hold him back in the voting.

Cy Young Race Update
Hudson takes the loss today against the Angels. He also falls behind Loaiza in ERA albeit 2.60 for Loaiza to 2.61 for Hudson. Loaiza is now tied for first in wins, second in ERA behind Pedro, and 4th in Ks behind Mussina, Pedro, and Halladay.

NOW THAT IS why we need Colon!!
Only if you have no problem supplying to someone under the legal age.

NOW THAT IS why we need Colon!!
So Buehrle gets criticized less because he makes less money? Also, I was expecting just as much from Buehrle as Colon so that argument is not true in my case. However, I'm done arguing for the night and am just going to enjoy this victory.

Actually I'm at school, U of I right now but I might be in town this weekend.

NOW THAT IS why we need Colon!!
I'll probably need even more than that .

Yeah I understand what your saying. I'm a big Bears fan and absolutely hate Kordell Stewart. However, if they happen to do anything this year (no chance) I'm not going to root against the guy.

NOW THAT IS why we need Colon!!
I never questioned your loyalty to the Sox. I just feel Colon is over criticized when he is having a better season then Buehrle who recieves almost no heat at all on this board. Colon is stepping it up big time when it counts and lets just celebrate that.

NOW THAT IS why we need Colon!!
This is why he was the most coveted pitcher in the off season. His last three performances have been unbelievable. He is stepping it up when it matters most and that is what I like to see. Anyone who questions his effort just has to look at the game tonight and see what a competitor he truly is. Colon this Buds for you.

Game Thread (9-8): Hostess Twinkies vs. White Sox
I'd have to agree. Not the most dominant but the best performance of the year by any Sox pitcher.

Game Thread (9-8): Hostess Twinkies vs. White Sox
Thats actually disappointing I was hoping for a crowd of around 40K today.

Good job by that fan, saved us a run.

Loaiaza's contract
The club has an option with a base of 3.5 mil. He also has incentives in his contract and I believe if he wins the Cy Young his salary increases to 4 mil for next year.

Damn
Would love to do the same but I have a 4 hour lab on Thursday's that I can't miss. And I don't have a car.

Tim Kurkjian
I agree with you 100%.

Numbers when it come to fielding our misleading. Having a high fielding percentage doesn't make you a great defensive player. You have to look at a players range and in the case of an outfielder the strength of their arm. Magglio has good, not great range, and an average arm for a right fielder.

Maggs is a great hitter and a good fielder but gold glove caliber, come on. Is arm is average for a right fielder, he doesn't have great range, and he doesn't make the highlight real catches needed to win a gold glove. Konerko may have a good fielding percentage but in his case that doesn't tell the whole story. I can remember at least 4 plays, just in two Jon Garland starts that Konerko botched that weren't ruled errors. He really is overrated defensively.

The Cards pen
The Cardinal pen just blew another game. They were up 2-1 going into the 9th and it is now a 2-2 game.

Game Thread (9-5): Tribe at Sox
I agree with you, but I find it funny that everyone on this board constantly criticizes Colon while remarking on how great Buehrle is when their numbers are very similiar.
-
Game Thread (9-5): Tribe at Sox
Did you happen to see Buehrle's start against Detroit.

Game Thread (9-5): Tribe at Sox
Minnesota only up 8-7 now. Texas scores 5 in the 4th.

Goddamn Bruce Kimm
I would agree with you if it was a bang bang play at the plate but Rowand was out by a good 7 or 8 feet and I have seen Nomar throw out runners on a fairly consistent basis.

Gamethread, 9-3-03, Gm 2 vs. Boston
The umpire did not give up two home runs to Ortiz. The umpire did not send Rowand home on Maggs double with less than two outs. 99.9% of times Umps don't lose games, players (and managers) do. Remember for every call, one side or the other doesn't like it.
