  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 12:09 AM) Im more of a baseball fan and usually just want to see good games. This was awful. Playoff football is usually pretty good. That game was hard to watch. While the announcers and commentators will focus on Cincy (and they deserve to be heavily criticized because their conduct was disgraceful) because they were the last two act and it cost them the game the Steelers were disgraceful in this one as well.
  2. What's the longest an NFL player has ever been suspended for actions on the field? I know Odell Beckham only got one game for spearing Josh Norman after the play was over. Suh got two games when he stomped on a player's arm. I think they need to start handing out really long suspensions for the behavior we saw today and I'm talking much more than a game or two.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:58 PM) I agree. Im just saying his history, not just this game is the reason people talk about him that way. The hit on Ben wasn't dirty today. That's fair and I think the NFL needs to do way more to prevent guys like that from making plays like he did on Brown late. Need to start having very lengthy suspensions for repeat offenders.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:54 PM) That penalty on Jones was a joke. Get Porter away from the opposition. Can both teams be eliminated About as dirty of a game as you will ever see. And I still can't believe the announcers defended that Shazier hit. That was the dirtiest play (Burfict one at the end was close) in a game filled with dirty plays.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:52 PM) Marvin Lewis should be fired about ten seconds after this game ends Yep. Complete meltdown there. You can't lose control after the Burfict penalty. The Steelers still had a really long kick coming up.
  6. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:51 PM) Football has turned into a barbaric game with a bunch of dumbasses playing. This is stupid. Turned into? This isn't anything new.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:50 PM) That is why they talk about him that way. Obvious shot to the head. Here's the thing. The play I was talking about before was clearly clean and wasn't close to being an illegal hit. That one was a clearly dirty play. It isn't hard to distinguish between the 2.
  8. Clearly a personal foul by Burfict. That is one he should be criticized for.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:43 PM) Burfect has earned it with previous personal fouls and fines. People look at it differently with repeat offenders. Actually, I think it is because Simms and Nantz are garbage at their jobs.
  10. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:41 PM) Why didn't Cincy just kneel for 3 downs, forcing Pitt to burn their TO's, and kick the fg? That playcall is up there with SEA passing at the goalline. These coaches out-think themselves sometimes. Because there is no guarantee you make the kick and Pitt would have gotten the ball back with over a minute left which is plenty of time.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:37 PM) This game is just amazing. The announcers want to murder Burfict. Yep. They must protect and rave about a complete piece of s*** in Ben Roethlisberger and they despise Burfict (who is probably also a piece of s*** off the field but still). Them questioning the legality of his hit on Roethlisberger but defending the clearly illegal hit by Shazier was infuriating.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:13 PM) When bernard went down, burfect ran on t he field to go after shazier. He is just a dirty piece of crap player. Im not judging him as a person as I dont know him. Got it. I was referring to Ben as a piece of s*** person for what its worth.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 11:07 PM) It is a penalty ehen the offense is on the field and he is supposed to be on the sidelines. It was aclean hit with a little extra to fall on him. He has already been fined for intentionally going after his legs and knocking him out for a few games. Piece of crap player. Well it was to a piece of s*** human being I guess. That was clearly a clean hit. I don't think you're right on the penalty. All I can find is this: Removal of his helmet by a player in the field of play or the end zone during a celebration or demonstration, or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player. I didn't see what Burfict did so if it was part of a celebration its a penalty, if it wasn't than it probably wasn't a penalty.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) Where was the penalty for Burfect running on to the field with his helmet off? Burfect knocked Bell out for the season, now Rothlisberger. Clean hit on Roethlisberger. I'd have to rewatch Burfict play but simply taking off a helmet isn't a penalty in the NFL.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 10:55 PM) So helmet to helmet is allowed when he's not "defenseless"? Hope that's not a broken clavicle for Big Ben, that would ruin the playoffs even more. Nope. Mike Carey is a dumbass. See my post above, that was an illegal hit.
  16. Also, Mike Carey is flat out wrong about that hit not being a penalty (least surprising news ever). NFL rulebook provides that: It is a foul if a runner or tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players are clearly outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle to tackle and from three yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team’s end line). Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or tackler against an opponent shall not be a foul.
  17. If that's not a personal foul than nothing should be. Unbelievably dirty hit by Shazier.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 07:27 PM) Brian Hoyer, meet Jake Delhomme. Not that the Texans have a good backup and the Chiefs were just the better team especially once Watt went down but how do you not bench Hoyer at halftime for Weeden. But between the terrible bowl season this year and this game I'm still waiting to be remotely entertained by postseason football.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) I'm agreeing with you. Enough should be enough. Got it. Yep, I will be incredibly pissed if Groce is back next year.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) Basketball schools shouldnt continuously miss the tournament I have literally no idea what point you are trying to make other than agreeing that we've hired two s***ty coaches in a row.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) I don't buy at all that this is a solid tournament team even at full health. Talent wise it would unquestionably be a solid tournament team but I've lost all confidence in Groce actually getting them there. Bottom line is that we have had two s***ty coaches in a row and until that changes I have no hope for the program. This athletic director hire is just remarkably important.
  22. QUOTE (gatnom @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) You guys really make the situation sound a lot worse than it is at Illinois. This was a tournament team at full strength, but last night they played with one starter on the road at MSU. Of course they were going to look like s***. In a vacuum, I still think Groce is a good enough coach to win at Illinois. However, it's not a vacuum, and three straight tournament misses is probably too much to overcome. We are about to miss the tourney for the 6th time in the last 9 years and we haven't been to the Sweet 16 since the Final 4 season. The last time we were competitive for a Big 10 title and on a national level was Dee Brown's senior year. Since Dee graduated we have won 2 NCAA tourney games and our seeds in that stretch were 12 (one of the last teams in the field and could have easily been left out), 5 seed (our best team post Dee and while that team was very solid they were also genuinely painful to watch play and failed to score 40 points twice that year), 9 seed and 7 seed. So basically one team in the last 10 years that was a top 25 type team and that team couldn't score. Illinois basketball is in pretty awful shape.
  23. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 11:32 PM) Why doesn't it matter? The team is a shell of itself. He's still landing four star recruits, also. I'm not typically the voice of reason, but let's call it like it is. This team isn't what it was supposed to be due to injury. And while we're add it, what self respecting coach is going to come to that train wreck of a school and athletic department? It's not about wins and losses. If we looked remotely competently coached he could get a pass on this year. 4 years in and I still have no idea what Groce wants to accomplish on defense. We suck at guard ball screens and his teams even going to back to Ohio have not been good at defending the 3 pt line which simply Watch them play, the players are constantly lost on defense and that was an issue last year as well. On offense we have a similar scheme to Michigan and run a lot of the same stuff. But watch Michigan play compared to Illinois. Yes, there has been some talent gap but Michigan's players move much more without the ball than guys on Illinois have for 4 years now. And for an offense that runs a ton of ball screens, how many times in 4 years do you recall the big rolling to the basket and getting a layup. They pop every single time. In order for the ball screen to really work you have to have your big man diving to the basket fairly regularly.
  24. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 11:23 PM) You think? The team's not healthy. Doesn't matter. A competent AD can see that this team isn't well coached and the program isn't moving in the right direction.
  25. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) As an outsider, Guenther seems the most culpable. All four suck ass but while Guenther made a couple good basketball hires before f***ing up royally with Weber he may be most to blame for the state of the athletic department as a whole because while other schools actually were caring about sports, investing money in their programs and realizing that college sports were big business Guenther stuck his head in the sand and ran programs as they were stuck in the 70s. Illinois football was really solid throughout the 80s and early 90s and has been a trainwreck nearly every year since. Basketball has been crap for 10 years now (basically the moment Bill Self's top recruits were gone).
