So Rose injures hamstring and will not return tonight (I was a little confused by what Stacy King said but I think that is what he meant). Hamstrings can linger for a long time if it remotely serious. So now they are saying lower back and right hamstring.

So Cubit's recruiting is going about as well as I expected it to so far. And by that I mean this class is freaking abysmal. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 01:55 AM) It's an interesting strategy by simon. Seems to be playing conservative as all hell which you don't really see much by big underdogs. What's very strange is that he wasn't playing well at all until about the 10th or so game in the second set. Tons of unforced errors himself despite being conservative and still took the 2nd. Yeah, very interesting to watch. But while he is still very much in this match it just doesn't feel like he has quite enough weapons to actually beat Djokovic.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 12:57 AM) Djokovic looks really bad tonight. Yeah, quite possible he would be playing better tennis if he was facing a Federer or Murray but if he played this quality of tennis against one of the other top guys he would be getting destroyed.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:05 PM) Taj was a man tonight. He played well and Pau was a stud. Cleveland is such a weird team to watch. Made the finals last year and have a great record but they have been together for over a year now and while they have stretches where they look awesome there are also a lot of stretches where they look really confused on offense and defense and they just get by on pure talent. I don't think it is all on Blatt at all but I really have no clue what they want to do on offense and while they have some guys who will never be great defenders a good defensive coach can get plenty out of Love and Irving. Thibs would be a great fit there from just a coaching acumen standpoint but I don't think the personalities there would ever allow for it. It will be interesting to see if Lue can get anything more out of them because while they are very good right now they have zero chance against the Spurs or Warriors.

Solid win. Of course this is the same way the Bulls have won just about every other game against a good team in the last 7 or 8 years. s***ty offense and good defense and then it helped that the Cavs could make an open 3 or a free throw tonight.

I'm not sure I've ever seen an NBA team have this bad of a night at the line (ignoring situations where one guy like a Drummond or Jordan is just missing everything).
-
I will never understand how refs give that call to the offensive player when they jump forward into the defender to create the contact like Mirotic did. If anything that should be an offensive foul.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Bulls look surprisingly good. Hope Dunleavy comes back soon. Snell has been awful. I wouldn't expect anything out of Dunleavy. A 35 year old who has missed this much time coming off back surgery isn't likely to contribute much.
-
Lol at Mark Jackson calling that good straight up defense by Tony Snell. I'll take the no call but that is clearly a foul.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) I don't think we ever had a shot at Morrow, and I don't really blame Groce for that one as Black "should" be a better version of him (injuries may have changed that though). But not going for Watson is a giant headscratcher, I get Evans/Brunson were priority but he should have been in the mix more. The bizarre part with Watson isn't that he wasn't a priority because I completely get that, but my understanding is that even once they missed on Brunson and Evans they didn't make a push for Watson which really makes no sense. -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:21 PM) Yeah, the NBA doesn't work that way. It's not like baseball, where you have an excess of pieces you can move across multiple levels. NBA teams have 12 guys. The Bulls have very little in terms of desirable pieces. In fact, I would argue the only tradeable piece the Bulls have is Gasol. The Bulls would arguably have to draft Hoiberg system players in concert with trading what they can. Right now they have nothing tradable. So what players does Hoiberg need to succeed?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:55 PM) Another shooting exhibition by Avi Mirotic. He and McDermott have both been disappointments this year and Snell just sucks. I'm not really sure what the Bulls do going forward right now.
-
So the Bulls have only outscored their opponents by 16 pts on the season. So basically through 42 games they have played like a .500 team. The offense is still bad and they are basically all high ball screens and iso play right now with no ball movement at all and no one besides Butler, Rose and Gasol is involved in the offense. Rose has made jumpers the last two games which is nice but he isn't creating any offense for anyone else on the floor at all and him and Butler don't work together well at all on offense.
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) His system is wasted on a team like this. What's his system?
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Bulls continue to be bad. They just aren't good and have played like a .500 team all year. Horrid defense tonight.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) Honestly it has been remarkable how similar the two teams have been so far. I mean this group scores more than last year, but we saw so many games last year where the Bulls played down to bad teams, and up to good teams, along with funky locker room crap. I have no idea what Hoiberg is supposed to be so far. This team is worse offensively than last year's team.

Starting pitching options post Cespedes

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) Should the Sox take a run at Gallardo? Has had pretty good stats considering he's been pitching in hitter friendly ballparks the past few seasons. Gives the rotation a solid presence in probably the 3 slot. Other ideas, either FA's or trade? Any way to bring in James Shields on a bad contract swap (Laroche/Danks)? Just spitballing here... I'd really rather not give up a draft pick to sign Gallardo especially since it looks like he is a candidate to decline. His strikeout numbers have dropped a ton over the last 4 years and while he has still been a very solid pitcher that is a huge concern. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:43 PM) Though, Avatar 2 does premier 12/25. No it won't. They haven't started production and that will come out in 2018 at the earliest.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 10:32 PM) They're both Disney so they wanted to keep, them apart as well. Eh, Pirates was scheduled for July and even as big as Star Wars is it wouldn't be going that strong at that point. It really is a combo of Episode VII's success in December, giving Johnson more time to get things right and probably moving Star Wars away from Guardians of the Galaxy II which was also scheduled for May of that year.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:17 PM) I hate that the best player on my favorite hockey team is portrayed to be such a f***ing tool. I also wish that one of 2 things would happen: 1. these stories would stop (if they're lying) or 2. more people would come out (assuming they're not lying) so this jack*** could just go to prison. Well he is a f***ing tool. That isn't really even debatable and I don't think anyone would even dispute that. That doesn't mean he is a sexual predator though and to this point there is no real proof of that.
-
Patrick Kane is a complete piece of s*** and I have never heard a single positive thing about that guy as a person. Now whether or not the guy is a sexual predator, I have no idea and won't even speculate on that based on a post on the internet.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) For the love of God, there was no box office draw like Michael Jordan. He sold out every arena he played. Miami retired his freaking number. He makes more money selling shoes almost 20 years later a year than he made playing basketball. But they are a lot of fun to watch. If they win the West, there really is no need to play the Finals. They should save the East champ the embarrassment, The Spurs or Warriors win the title if they stay healthy this year. No one else has a chance.

Did the Bulls have a possession the entire night that wasn't an isolation or high ball screen?

I think it is also pretty clear that Groce knows he is in really hot water. His last couple of press conferences have been very Weberesque in throwing players under the bus which is something Groce had never done previously.
