  1. 3 words about the terror alerts: Wag. The. Dog.
  2. I concur, SI. Politics are weak in this country. It's become not about issues but more ICON ICON ICON. Like, for example "Will King George trump Tommy Boy Daschle and get the tax cut through?" without any debate on the news about what the tax cut entails. Insert any issue into that, I just did the tax cut cuz it happened to be on my mind when I was writing. All families are not going to be prosperous enough. There will always be lower class citizens because of disparities in education options, etc. etc. etc. It would definitely be utopian to believe in such a society where nobody needs the government because we are all prosperous, but that is antithetical to capitalism. One person's gain must yield another losing something. And you are correct, also, affirmative action is not the cure-all for racial inequality, but something does need to be done to curb the social idea of ineqality [because anthropological studies show no real thing as "race", it's just an easy way for people to classify based on physical characteristics...thomas theorem: those things perceived as real are real in their consequences] The MLB does have their ideas of what they want for hiring practices and nobody is holding a gun to the Marlins' head forcing them to be in the MLB. If the Marlins say they are part of the MLB then they need to abide by the rules and regulations put forth by the MLB. Case closed.
  3. IMO, a Sox fan wants two teams to win: First and most importantly, the Sox. Secondly, whomever is playing the Cubs. :finger
  4. I didn't reply to this for a while because I was too busy laughing my ass off at CK calling the Democrats "socialistic". Sociological definition of people in a privileged class denying they have a privilege: 1) privilege doesn't always work 2) they have other social statuses where they are not privileged and believe it evens out White people have been privileged and continue to be. Like it or not, this country was built on African Americans, Chinese, and other minorities. The usage of slave labor was the reason that we became a superpower. We didn't have to pay the people that were boosting our economy! And CK for the most part, what jobs are the minorities taking? Are these new immigrants and minorities taking all the MLB jobs, all the lawyer and neurosurgeon jobs? If they are taking all these important, powerful jobs then how come the majority of management still continue to be white? Our Supreme Court already said earlier this week that the secret deportation tribunals where suspects don't get a trial, lawyer, or contact with their family are Constitutional, so the SC is a bunch of moronic f***chops. And to quote the pro-war crowd, "America...love it or leave it."
  5. Actually Alkaline Trio (Chicago band), The Ataris, Nerf Herder, The Get Up Kids, River City Rebels, Against All Authority, Propagandhi, Randy, etc. etc. etc. are much better in my opinion. But please, Heather try to sucker me into an argument again. /3 steps ahead.
  6. HSC, look around at the current music scene. It's almost, if not more s***ty than the old 80s hair metal bands. I mean, we have Metallica suing individual kids over mp3's. We have a bunch of no talent assclown bands like N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, O-Town, DreamStreet, etc. etc. etc. etc. out marketing their asses off all over MTv and all of them together couldn't make and original tune to save their lives. And don't forget Satan's s*** like Avril Levigne, et al.
  7. Captain Obvious unavailable for comment.
  8. Futurama was essentially cancelled because Matt Groening wouldn't sell the rights to FOX like he did with the Simpsons. So FOX got pissy and cut the show.
  9. I made 2 posts over there after RPS asked me to. And I got banned pretty much after those two, haha. There's no grudge. If there was a grudge, I'd constantly bring up how much Daver sucks as a moderator. Notice how until this thread was started, almost nobody has mentioned jack and s*** about WSI or their mod staff.
  10. :finger Daver and the f***in' MOD Nazi horse he rode in on. He couldn't moderate his way out of a wet paper bag.
  11. The WonderTwins were part of the Super Friends. It was a cartoon with like Wonder Woman, Superman, Flash, etc. etc. etc. against Lex Luthor, Manta Ray and a random assortment of slapass bad guys. Jayna can turn into any animal, while Zan can turn into any form of water...(Hmmm sort of limiting isn't it). They can also comunicate telepathically. Gleek was just the dumbass monkey that they hauled around.
  12. Way to go White Sox! :finger Tigers! Also, what happened to Roman who said that Crede was on his perma-ban list? How would you like me to prepare that crow for you Roman? Let's go White Sox! It's time to kick some ass and take some names! Maybe THIS finally lit a fire under their ass! (I doubt it did, but I can still hope, haha)
  13. Darren Aaronofsky is pretty good. Pi is such a damn good movie. Although, Harold and Maude is one of my favorites. Brando, have you seen it?
  14. The Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF) is asking the Justice Department to bring "criminal treason" charges against former NBC reporter Peter Arnett, who during a lengthy interview with Iraqi TV claimed that the American military is having to rework its battle plans in response to unexpected Iraqi resistance. This, according to the rightwing fanatics pursuing these ridiculous charges, provided "aid and comfort to the enemy." But what about Geraldo Rivera? When Rivera carelessly exposed the position of the American unit he was embedded with in Iraq, the Defense Department wanted him yanked from Iraq. So what sets Geraldo, who truly put our troops in harms way, apart from Arnett who merely voiced his opinion? Roger Ailes, the head of FOX News! Ailes is a former (and some would say current) Republican campaign operative who once worked for the Nixon and Bush administrations. Ailes' relations in the Bush Administration helped Rivera. Worried that Geraldo's actions would embarrass FOX News, Ailes called friends in the Bush Administration and Geraldo and Fox were spared major embarrassment. Of course, this isn't the first time Arnett has had the charge "treason" leveled at him by the rabid reactionary republicans. During the first Gulf War, Arnett revealed that the US bombed a baby milk factory by mistake. George Herbert Walker Bush then claimed with a straight face that is was a chemical weapons lab. Eventually a state department employee came clean in a confidential memo drafted in December 1992, immediately suppressed by Bush the first, and then released later under the Freedom of Information Act. In the memo, this state department employee confirmed that the Abu Ghreib 'baby milk factory' bombed by the Allies during Desert Storm had been a genuine factory for producing powdered milk, and not a military plant. He had found no hidden chambers there, no inappropriate machinery. Now as it was then, it appears the only "crime" Peter Arnett is guilty of is embarassing a "President" named Bush! And that hardly rises to the level of treason. FOX News minion Geraldo on the other hand...
  15. I'll let Mike Bryan's article comment for me: Ship me off to Guantanamo: I've become a rogue person filled with misconceptions, negativity, and anger. This is not the America I want. This is not the America I expected. Based on the standards of this America, I'm the enemy. I know I only have myself to blame for my illusions and for the path I've taken, yet surely the misinformation I learned as a youth extenuates circumstances. Misunderstandings about our Founding Fathers clearly added a great deal to my confusion about the real meaning of America. I was thoroughly convinced our founders really wanted to identify our nation with liberty, equality, truth, justice, civil rights, humanity, dignity, integrity, progressiveness, and freedom. I actually thought America was supposed to represent the highest ideals and standards of democracy to the world. I admit it now: I was wrong. President Bush, however, truly understands the American way. He knows exactly what will be exported to the Middle East in the name of democracy. Apparently, I don't understand America. I don't understand running the government as a business. I don't understand restricting civil rights, information, and social safety nets in order to enrich the already rich and to strengthen the already strong military-industrial complex. I don't understand placing the interests of business and property ahead of those of people. I don't understand not cooperating with other nations in protecting the world from nuclear proliferation, global warming, land mines, and war crimes. I don't understand an Environmental Protection Agency that contradicts its own name. I just don't get it. I must have gotten the notions about not participating in wars of aggression and not meddling in the internal affairs of other nations from Star Trek's prime directive or some such place, not from our Founding Fathers. I must have erroneously attributed a lot of ideals and values to our founders and to America from concepts derived from television, movies, folklore and elsewhere. Popular culture can really play tricks. History indicates our Founding Fathers predominantly intended to represent the interests of business and the land's wealthiest individuals, not those of average people. They chose much of their lofty language in order to attract more soldiers from the poorer classes for the revolution. They designed our government to exclude Native Americans, slaves, non-landowners, and women from voting and other rights. It was Star Trek that envisioned a future when all people would unite and work harmoniously together, form an egalitarian federation, and strive for compassion, understanding, and human betterment - not our Founding Fathers. It was Star Trek that considered societies dominated by the desire for monetary gain and conquest to be primitive. I must sort out my thinking. When terrorists crashed planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon President Bush accurately stated they had attacked symbols of democracy and liberty. I mistakenly thought they had attacked symbols of capitalism and militarism. Invading Iraq was actually nothing new. America has fought many unprovoked preemptive wars against practically defenseless opponents. America has supported many unjust causes and has committed countless atrocities inside and outside our borders. America has long been about exclusion, not inclusion; capitalism, not human rights. I've just been stubbornly clinging to a mistaken definition of America. Many appear to agree with President Bush's definition. These are America's positive thinkers. They are for things: for our president, for whatever he wants, for war, for tax cuts, for big business, for money. They unselfishly sacrifice their own best interests to those of big business and America's most wealthy. These people side with winners. They don't let facts erode their beliefs or become bogged down worrying about actual Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, international laws, collateral damage, or environmental destruction. They know humankind can adapt to any new world order or ecology. They are America's true patriots. They understand this America. They understand that when Mr. Bush talks about democracy, he's talking about capitalism; when he talks about liberty, he's talking about military force. They get it. Then there are those like me who are down on this America: the negative thinkers. They are anti-war, anti-media consolidation, anti-mountaintop mining, anti-clear-cutting, anti-pollution, anti-government surveillance, anti-privatization, anti-exploitation, anti-economic inequity, anti-social inequality, anti-this, and anti-that. These unfortunates are not happy people. This negative bunch should be sent away along with me to Guantanamo without due process for refusing to accept the true definition of America and for thinking they can choose the America they want. Maybe we'll even be able to create a better America there inside our cages.
  16. Whatever yas. Im a Sox fan and I dont care what some message board schmuck says. Im a Sox fan but I have a real short fuse... wow someone with balls.............and a self esteem. Don't mistake a lack of intelligence and self-control for "balls". Nice one Clu
  17. Two best heroes ever: Spider Jerusalem Jesse Custer
  18. Like Hawk said tonight during the game "You win 60, you lose 60. It's what you do with the other 42 that matters." We are not going to win every single game. Can't be flagellates all the f***ing time because the Sox lost a game. Yes, we did play the Tigers and yes, we should have won. 4 hits was the most pathetic thing that I have seen in a while. Remember, we tell the Cubbie fans to tone down their "We're doing well!" bulls*** with the fact that it's only May. Remember....it's only May. There is a whole f*** of a lot of baseball left to be played. /prays for a fire to be lit under the ass of the Sox so they do something soon
  19. Crede's error didn't really lose us the game. The f***ing fact that we got 2 runs on 4 hits against a AAAA team is PA-THET-IC. I concur with Greg That's what lost the game for us, not Crede's error. ....Or maybe it's just the Sox and Roll curse again? RPS.
  20. It's a common fallacy in argumentation structure.
  21. 1549, I am talking about things like the Espionage Act during World War I that gave people 10 year PRISON TERMS for speaking out at rallies against the war. Just for speaking. Emma Goldman being arrested and deported for being against US imperialism. The Heymarket affair and the following Palmer Raids, the union busting of the early industrialized United States, etc. etc. etc. There are things too many to mention.
  22. I love the basic tenets that this country is supposedly built on. What I don't appreciate is the destruction of free speech (see Emma Goldman, Eugene V. Debs, Doves during Vietnam, etc. etc. etc. etc.) and the destruction of human rights that the United States has done on the homefront and abroad. I'd expect something better from the country touted as "the world's only superpower"
  23. My autographed copy of "Stupid White Men...and Other Sorry Excuses for the State of the Nation" that I got when I was able to meet Michael Moore on his book tour (he came to the UIUC campus) Any of my books and CD's in my collection that I have picked up over the years. My "Help Fight Terrorism. Buy Domestic" NORML t-shirt (National Organization Reforming Marijuana Laws)
