Federal Judge upholds new terror law
LowerCaseRepublican replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) And I'm talking about the kind of people that will slit a reporters throat on camera and braodcast the tape across the world or the type of people that will hang and burn the bodies of non-combatants from a bridge. The type of people that will drag the beheaded bodies of American's through the street. The are not deserving of the protections of OUR constitution and have no legitimate claim to those protecetions. The method of war that they have chosen to wage denies them the protections of the Geneva convention. They made their choices and they started this s*** by slaughtering nearly 3000 of our citizens. As far as their human rights are concerned, I could care less. f*** them! Or the kinds of people who will beat prisoners to death, put them in naked piles while taking smiling photos, making them stand shrouded on boxes while holding electrical wires! Just because of where you were pushed out of your mom at does not mean that they should get less rights. As the late, great Thomas Paine once wrote: He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself. I'm not ready to give the government blanket authority to arrest people and rest on just their assurances that these people are terrorists, especially given the scope of the arrests. It's not like the US government has ever abused their authority before. Those criticizing indefinite detainment are not "terrorist coddlers". We're people who aren't ready to give the government carte blanche to do whatever the Hell they want without being skeptical about their assurances, especially given the track record of the US government to abuse any authority given to it. Take this study by Syracuse University for instance that really shows a lot of data that the median prison sentence was 0-5 years and that 67% of the cases were deemed that they were not worth prosecuting. http://trac.syr.edu/tracreports/terrorism/169/ And if we want to get technical, our CIA and military programs in the Middle East especially countries like Iran/Iraq that helped to put fundamentalist (and notably anti-Commie) Islamics in power while slaughtering and sabotaging any opposition movements, the unquestioned support for Israel as they committed human rights violations like the slaughters at Sabra and Shatila were long before 9/11. -

Amy Zidian released means one thing. We must make a stable of Cade, Murdoch, Jamie Noble and Jimmy Wang Yang. Make Yang the leader of the stable and none of them acknowledge that he's actually Asian. -

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) I'm also looking forward to seeing what Hero's 'send off' is for Claudio. Hopefully it's the two of them tearing the house down. I am pretty sure that in CHIKARA, Hero turned heel on him and left him. -
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 07:01 AM) You may not like what we did but it worked and Soviet Communisim menaces us no more. Yeah, now its fundamentalist Islamic terrorism that we funded, armed and trained. Anywho, back on topic. Hooray that Pinochet and his murderous, genocidal, fascistic, amoral self is finally paying his justice to the thousands that he ordered tortured and murdered.

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) Good point. I had completely forgotten about the surgery. Okay, 'Cide's definitely the next World Champ. As much as I enjoy Daniels/Sydal, I really hope the Briscoes take the straps and destroy everyone for most of next year. He may very well need the surgery. It isn't definite but he is losing his range of motion with his shoulder now and is in immense pain. I can't see him carrying on this kind of schedule much longer. The Briscoes are so awesome. I'm hankering for a program between them and Aries/Strong. -

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) I'm really starting to think that Danielson walks out of Final Battle as Champ. I know Cide has his "I'm leaving ROH if I don't win a belt", but I think he will disappear for awhile and return with Low Ki. I still wish they had the Pure belt. That was so entertaining. McGuinness was a master of that belt. With Danielson needing surgery possibly for his shoulder, I don't know how many more days he can work on it taking some serious bumps for ROH, other indies, NOAH etc. without having to eventually drop the strap. -
QUOTE(Pods20 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) I love AJ... But who still watches wrestling? Me, a few others on the board and quite a lot of people.

He was denied a state burial and is getting only a military burial on Tuesday. Only military facilities were ordered to have their flags at half staff. The President of Chile was actually one of the people tortured by Pinochet's regime so she's not too big a fan.

Well, at least AJ hates the Redbirds At tonight's Turning Point PPV... Jim Cornette came to the ring and introduced several diginitaries in The Chicago White Sox' Dale Torborg and AJ Pierzynski (who came out with his X-Division title replica), who appeared at last year's Turning Point. Jim Cornette then introduced World Series MVP David Eckstein, who came out with his MVP trophy and his brother. The TNA announcing team plugged Eckstein's forthcoming book. Cornette interviewed Eckstein, who noted that Rhino and Lance Hoyt were his favorites. They showed the book to Torborg and AJ, who proceeded to rip up the book. AJ cut a promo on Eckstein, saying he backed his way into a World Series and now he was in AJ's ring. Eckstein grabbed the book away from them and the brothers got into the White Sox's face. Torborg drilled Eckstein's brother. AJ and Eckstein began shoving each other. Cornette tried to stop it but was shoved down. Torborg grabbed Eckstein and they teased hitting him with the X-Division belt replica. Lance Hoyt hit the ring and brawled briefly with Torborg before he powdered out of the ring. -
The former dictator responsible for human rights abuses of countless thousands of Chileans including extralegal torture and murders died. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/12/...t.ap/index.html For all the capital punishment supporters here, it would have been great to see them celebrating. After all, one cold blooded murder makes a person evil. A few thousand makes him a Cold War hero to Reaganite and Thatcheresque conservatives. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Looks like we got a Pro Wrestling NOAH vs ROH feud building. At night 2, Joe called out NOAH and Nigel McGuinness came out saying that if he had a problem with NOAH, he had a problem with Nigel. And speaking of NOAH, we got a new GHC champ -- Misawa. Who's excited that Homicide is likely to be the new ROH champ at Final Battle? -

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) Who cares? I care. Please don't change the context by implying MLB is the only meaning in my life. It is a very small part of it, but in the confines of this forum, it is everything. It is time for you to live up to your words. Since you say you don't care, will you go on record saying its alright with you if he wears a Cubs hat? If so, I won't agree, but will certainly respect your opinion, and you get to defend it to the rest of the folks here. It would be a very mature opinion to take, although I am not sure I can say the same about statements that call me whiny and imply I have nothing else in life. SFF I couldn't care less what hat or clothes a professional athlete wore in his free time. Proclaiming that we can somehow be upset over what he wears on his own time is the pinnacle of asinine behavior, especially when others in this very thread have said that it was fine for Mackowiak to wear a Sox hat as part of the Bucs but somehow bad for Buehrle to wear a Cards hat. If it's alright for Mack, then it is fine for MB. Hypocricy, thy name is numerous Soxtalk posters who are attempting to crucify MB. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) That last paragraph is a mini-course in irony. Don't try to cast this as a style issue. Music, drag, lol. Go nuts with the pantyhose, Mark. Fans want to see that the players on their team care about the team as much as (preferably, more than) they do, because there's a notion that indifferent players won't perform as well. I don't believe that's true of Mark, but the issue just keeps coming up. I don't think I "own" what Mark can do. All I can do is not like it. But the team he's working for does have some say about his choices outside the park, just like all employers. And hey, look at how this started. (Although, as I said before, I'd rather KW and Ozzie do any chiding.) I guess you'd think it's okay if Mark said that he doesn't care for Sox fans? Or if he wore Twins apparel entering and exiting the park? None of these are illegal or crooked, so we really wouldn't have any right to complain. If the Twins were his childhood team, I couldn't really give a s***. His job is to produce on the field. Whatever he wears outside of the chalk lines is fine with me. And before we get further into it, the mention of it by JR was a low-blow and a very shrewd move for future contract negotiations. Tipping your cards saying "MB is our ace and we loooooooooove him" means that he'd likely have to shell out some more dough because MB could easily say "I'm your ace and since I'm so important, you can pay me this much more." -

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) I'm sorry, but when I see a guy on MY team wear the hat of some OTHER team, I'm offended. Every other team is a rival and I don't want to see it, it makes me sick. I doubt I am the only one either, but what does our opinion matter, we are just the folks who finance the team. You know, I've said it before but I'd really be interested in the reaction if one our our guys repeatedly wore a Cub hat. Will anyone supporting Buerhle in this go on record as being OK with that or will you be offended as I already am? If you are ok with the Cub hat, I won't agree, but will respect your opinion and lay off. SFF Who the f*** cares what a player does off the field as long as he is not doing anything illegal or cheating in the sport that he is playing in? Athletes don't owe you a damn thing. They try to give meaning to your life by throwing and/or hitting a ball. You don't own what they can do. I'm not a fan of easy listening so I demand that all players have easy listening CD's and songs banned from their possession and iPods! I couldn't give a s*** if Buehrle, Dye or any player wore women's clothing (even with a *gasp* Cubs logo on it!) during their personal life. Here's another idea. If you don't want to see it, don't go search it out on the internet so you can engage in some whiny pseudo-outrage. -

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) I was ready to shoot the guy behind me that chanted "F TNA" every chance he got. He's also the one who was chanting Homocide before Cide's match. I really wish the Briscoe's match would have gone longer. I've seen them vs. IA before and another 5 mins would have been great. How awesome was Jimmy Jacob's spear on Daizee? That was pretty damn sweet. I was kinda sad to see two no contests on the card though. Homicide's match was pretty cool. Wish I was there for night 2 to see the strap match. Although Sydal is out of night two with a knee injury, so I wonder what happens with that Aries/Strong match for the ROH tag belts. That Briscoes match was damn good. And poor Matt Sydal, not only the knee injury but he is having so much difficulty getting over. -

QUOTE(Purdue129 @ Dec 9, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) I was so tired by the time I got home. There was sooooooo much going on throughout the show. They did a great job with the storylines. I'm never going to get enough of any match involving any combo of Aries/Strong/Sydal/Daniels. Matt Sydal and Davey Richards are adding some great personality to their characters and are going to be huge in 2007. And Brian Danielson is the best heel champion ever. He couldn't have put on a better heel performance in the cage. I just wish I could have seen a Gringo Killer, Muscle Buster or the Cattle Mutilation live though. And Kikutaro! He was highly entertaining. And did Daniels really need Allison Danger out there during the four corners match? I think she took away from the match by being so interactive with the fans. With the tag match it was better because there were lulls in the action, but not so much with that four corners match. I really marked for the Briscoes. That springboard turning around in mid air Doomsday Device was so awesome. It was so awesome. The only thing that sucked was some of the elitist smark fans that were there trying to start chants and failing and not learning to shut the f*** up afterwards. -

QUOTE(MinnesotaSoxFan @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) I want to see CT in action. It's been like 5 weeks since they last wrestled on live air. Yeah and where did the Highlanders suddenly come from? This must be like an E mad lib: _______________ is sick/has died. Gimmickly or personally _______________ is a friend. So we must make (use the previous name) champion or give them a push. And while the CT segment got me to chuckle, it did seem very forced and not as hilarious as the previous ones. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 06:07 AM) Why has she not been charged with indecent exposure? If a man had done something similar and been photographed while doing so, you can bet he would have been arrested by now. A little from column A (the irrational hard on our news media has for the mundane antics of celebrities) and a little from column B (the double standard in our society that makes it much more appropriate for women to do this sort of thing, especially female celebrities looking to increase their publicity) There's always some bulls*** excuse like "She's trying to break out of her bubble gum pop kiddy friendly shell" or some bile when the reality is that we have a C list twice divorced single mother looking to pump some lifeblood into her floundering career to develop some sort of relevance in today's society. -

QUOTE(MinnesotaSoxFan @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Heyman just got canned. I saw that too. Is it a work or real? The E is saying that poor ratings and a disgruntled talent roster were the reasons for the dismissal. Funniest part is that Vinny Mac knows that he and Kevin Dunn are responsible for that, not Paul. From Dave Scherer: As Mike reported a few minutes ago, Paul Heyman is gone from WWE. From talking to a number of people in company, the impression I received was that Vince McMahon was irate about how awful the PPV was last night and wanted to pin the blame on Heyman for it. Anyone who knows anything about Heyman's booking, as I have for years now, have a pretty good idea that the show was much more McMahon than Heyman. But according to people I spoke with, Heyman got pinned with the blame for it with the theory being that "he is caught in the past and doesn't understand the new vision of ECW". You know, the vision that ends PPVs a half hour early and makes the fans boo what WWE creative books for them. The problems started yesterday at the ECW PPV when everyone realized that the show really stunk. Heyman was said to be unhappy with the way that the show was booked (big shock right) and sources backstage told me that he voiced that concern both before the show and after it. People at TV told me today that it was obvious that there were issues between Vince McMahon and Heyman because of the how the show played out on pay TV, with everyone knowing it was a disaster. Problems carried over from last night and led to the incidents that happened today. A number of sources told me that there was a meeting today around two o'clock with Heyman, Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon-Levesque at the building. Heyman came out the meeting and seemed like his normal self, with no one I talked to having any idea that something bad had happened. Shortly thereafter, Heyman gathered his things and left the building to go home. The word going around from everyone I talked to is that this is not a storyline in any way and he is legitimately done with the company. -- Way to f***ing go, Vince. Blame Heyman for the E booking staff. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) I was on the wrestlecrap boards following the PPV. What a stinkfest. Supposedly theHardyz/MNM was top notch, but downhill from there. RVD and CM Punk were the first 2 eliminated from the chamber and Sabu was "take out" and replaced by Holly. Your new ECW champion...BOBBY LASHLEY!! Besides the opening tag match, seems the other best part was Ariel doing the splits on Kelly Kelly's face. Cuz when I think ECW, I think Lashley! Candido is doing barrel rolls in his coffin. Supposedly RVD is counting down the days until his contract is up. -
QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) Started Obama's new book...seems like a bunch of pie-in-the-sky rhetoric so far. He does write extremely well so atleast he makes it interesting. He definitely comes off as a politician who hasn't been corrupted by Washington yet. To be read soon: *The Elephant in the Room: Evangelicals, Libertarians and the Battle to Control the Republican Party - Ryan Sager * The Conservative Soul: How We Lost It, How to Get It Back - Andrew Sullivan *The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin - Gordon Wood I had made a post here about it, but I'd really recommend Woodward's "State of Denial", very interesting read. I thought the exact same thing about Obama's book. After the first chapter, I was like "Yeah, having everybody singing Kum-bay-yah and being happy with each other is a good idea but how are we going to get there, Champ?" It seems like a lot of rhetoric and little to no plans/ideas on how to get there.
