The Pledge at Public Schools

Update: The local paper ran my guest commentary as I wrote it. I got a call from the parent who apologized and told me that she hoped I hadn't taken it personally, etc. So all is well. w00t. -
I was chuckling. I was like "Damn, that totally looks like a wang." in a very outrageous comedic sense.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) Nothing more than the New Blood vs. the Millionaires Club back from the WCW days. Exactly. There's no way that the EC Dub originals are going over, as much as it pains me to say. -
Hey gang, I have Outlook 2003 and everything has been going fine using GMail with it until yesterday afternoon. I can receive e-mails just fine but I keep getting a repeated error whenever I try to send e-mail from my Outlook version of my GMail account. It keeps telling me that my outgoing SMTP server does not validate the SSL certificate. When I test the settings, everything works and the test e-mail sends. However, when I write and try to send an e-mail, I get nothing. It also says that it can't find the SMTP server (despite when running the test, it locates it) I have tried the different troubleshooting methods offered on GMail (turning the SMTP number from 465 to 587 to 25) to no avail. Any ideas on how to go about fixing this or is this a problem on Google/GMail's end?

WSX notes from watching it tonight... -too much lameass pyro...especially with the coffin. Not everything is meant to explode. For f***'s sake this is not a John Woo film. -that in ring announcer needs a massive dose of Quaaludes to calm him and his spastic screaming and running around aimlessly -they got rid of the Human Tornado's gimmick hometown and the best one ever (n****keeprunnin', Mississippi) -the matches are spotfests. Perhaps it is watching too much ROH but I do like a buildup to the high impact moves -these announcers are worse than Don West on crack. If you listen closely, you can hear Gordon Solie doing barrel rolls. -WTF are these "fans" in the crowd? Have any of them ever seen quality wrestling? Seriously... +they got two guys from the 2006 match of the year working for them (aka team dragon gate) +they got pwg's former world champ Joey Ryan -- who wants a mustache ride?! ...Now all that said, it was better than the ECW program being run. I can't wait for Van Dam to go to TNA as Harvey Dangerfield -- but you can call him Harvey D. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) I would MTFO if he came in from the rafters with the silver on a la WMXII Also, the Ric Flair promo: Post Owen...ixnay on the aftersray. Just got done watching Death Before Dishonor III. The final match between Austin Aries and CM Punk. That is how you have a heel turn with such a positive crowd. The complete 180 shift that the crowd made at the end was so classic. -

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Feb 3, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) Do the students in your class who don't stand decide to not do so on their own, or were they somehow encouraged to not stand by you? (Not accusing you of anything, just asking) It is during the morning homeroom where I only have 13 kids in the room. It's from 8:00-8:17 (5 minutes for locker time and then lunch count/getting kids who forgot their lunch card down to the office to get their lunch card, announcements, pledge, call downs for detention/ISS reminders) When announcements come on, I ask the kids to be in their seats and quiet to hear the daily announcements (if they need books, if the library is closed et al.) Then the principal asks them to stand for the pledge. I stand as well as some of the students and the pledge is read and then the principal calls down the kids that have detentions/ISS. I never mentioned a single word pro or con regarding the pledge (I modeled the appropriate behavior by standing) except that they'll be respectful when the intercom is on, until this lady wrote this letter to the paper -- and only then it was this letter that I wrote. -
A parent at the school I teach at is upset that I am not requiring all students to stand for the pledge of allegiance. She wrote to the local paper about it. Enclosed is her piece and my piece that I dropped off to the paper on Friday that is likely also going to run as a guest commentary. Her piece about little ol' me: And...my response which has yet to get printed but is likely going to run as a guest commentary

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 2, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) The 2 shows they ran Wrestlemania weekend last year are MUST haves. They were awesome live. One of the rare 5 star matches on American soil, and I got to see it live!! Interesting that ROH is running a different building on the 24th of this month. Use to be Chicago Ridge, now it's somewhere in the city... http://rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=1037 Not sure if I'm going to make this one, PRIDE is having their 2nd event in America that night, and it'll be on PPV. Although it will be Samoa Joe's last ROH appearance in Chicago, and Brian Danielson cracks me up! The budget allowed two so I had to pick. It was quite hard but I went for a show that I was at (Chicago Spec.) and one that I've wanted to see for a long while -- Death Before Dishonor IV. I can't wait to see Samoa Joe's last ROH appearance in Chicago. It is going to be so awesome. -

QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 12:24 AM) Looks like what its setting up to be.. but then you have to look at it like this.. How much does Undertaker and HBK have left in the tank? I mean, why put the strap on them (or just one for that matter) when its obvious they are almost done. It could happen, and then they just quickly drop them in an upcoming PPV, but the way I see it right now its gonna be Undertaker/Batista and Cena/HBK and I am willing to bet that Takers streak is ended and HBK loses. Which would piss me off beyond belief. It'll probably be a thank you of sorts to Taker who stayed loyal through the crap era, the Attitude era and continued to work very hard for years. Plus, anything is better than Dave having the strap. -

Saw Wrestling Society X's first show. So, that's what a show with ADD looks like. Holy crap. Talk about the no-sell spotfests. I did love how Teddy Hart no-sold so much in that match. -
The video is an edgy parody of the kind of religious nonsense that has left many wondering whether or not it could actually be genuine. Certainly it wouldn’t be the first time such a hateful message has been heard from those who claim to otherwise be full of the love of Christ. However it’s now emerged that Donnie Davies is actually 28 year old comedian Joey Oglesby from Dallas. Oglesby insists he is not Davies, but if he isn’t then it would seem he and his twin brother were separated at birth. Also, the C.H.O.P.S (Changing Homosexuals Into Ordinary People) program Davies keeps talking about may very well have something to do with a recently registered domain name ‘chopsthemovie.com’. http://www.beforeiforget.co.uk/ -- Did a little surfing and let my fingers do the researching.

QUOTE(Damen @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) Watch the guy's music video. It's clearly satire, and fuggin' hilarious at that. The 70's porn mustache, the pink shirt with white pants, the lyrics... "Lord you are my strength, fill me with your love... ...To enter heaven, there is no back door" Plus, you'll notice Cindy Lauper is listed as a safe band even though she's a big gay rights activist. Even better, Elton John is listed twice, the second time followed by "really gay". Holy crap, that was great. Hahahahaha. I needed that this morning. High-larious.

I too am getting the Rumble today. If nothing more than to see a hellacious Last Man Standing match and also the Rumble itself. What can I say, I'm a sucker for the Big 4 shows. And I got my tix for the ROH show on 2.24 -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) Faulty logic. Ever been drunk? Then never sday drunk driving is bad. Did you get in a fist fight growing up? Then never say violence doesn't solve problems. The US can not moake comments on anyone's economy, we had a Depression. Don't talk about military strategy, Bay of Pigs. Etc. Intelligent people learn from their mistakes. Other people try to prop up weak arguments when it fits their belief structure. And God help us when we consider entertainment to be watching a child get raped. Sick. The thing is that Donahue and the Catholic Church sit on high telling others how to live their lives with their aura of legitimacy. I don't say one thing and do another. It is called consistency. And I believe it was the Bible that told people to take the timber out of their eye before going after the splinter in another's. Good to see Holy Mother Church learning that lesson well.
-
Even the president of the Catholic League, William Donahue, is calling for a federal investigation of the movie to determine if federal child pornography laws were violated during filming. As opposed to the 50+ years where the Catholic League didn't do jack and s*** in regards to abuses their priests perpetrated on countless thousands of children. And really, if films influence kids to be violent and sexually active as they assert -- then why weren't there kids crucifying people and torturing them en masse when Jesus Chainsaw Massacre was so popular? I mean, that film was the equivalent of a violent snuff film and yet nobody was crucifying anybody acting out the violence they saw.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) Again?? It was reported last Friday, and LCR posted it here that day, too. Not the Messiah. He waited four days to rise from the grave. As for Raw, it was one of the more entertaining Raws in a while. Granted, that's like saying it is the world's tallest midget at this point but I did find it moderately entertaining. Although I totally can't wait for the 2/24 ROH show. That tag main event is worth admission right there. Morishima and Nigel vs Joe and Homicide -

RIP Bam Bam Bigelow. WWE.com has learned that former WWE Superstar Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow has passed away in Florida. Kevin Doll, the Public Information Director for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Bigelow was found dead early this morning in his home in Hudson, Fla. "We can confirm that Scott Bigelow was found in his home this morning. At this time the cause of death is unknown," Doll told WWE.com. Doll also confirmed that the Pasco-Pinellas Counties medical examiner has taken the body and an autopsy will be performed. ...And add Tatanka to the list of people fired by the E. -
QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) interesting reaction. I thought it looked awful. his movies seem to be nose diving in terms of quality, or at least just wearing me down. Talledega Nights was amusing but he had a great foil in Sascha Baron Cohen to play off of. I don't think he has quite the same talent there for this flick.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Another round of cuts at Titan Tower today. Getting the pink slip: Al Snow (although he's likely to keep his trainer/road agent job) Gangrel Tony Marmaluke Basham Brothers The Gymini Sylvester Terkay "Mr and Mrs Jazz" (Jazz and Rodney Mack) C.W. Anderson Gotta clear up some cash to pay The Great Khali somewhere, I suppose.... Only decent people they cut were Snow as a wrestler, Mamaluke who can put on some damn good matches... And add to the list the head writer of SmackDown! SmackDown writer Andrew Goldstein, second in command to Michael Hayes, has been fired. Goldstein was informed of his termination by WWE Human Resources, instead of by someone like Stephanie McMahon. On SmackDown, unlike on RAW and ECW, Michael Hayes dictates what he wants on the show, and then Goldstein would take all of that and put it together in a format that can be televised. Apparently, Goldstein was very popular backstage, always worked very hard, and was always a professional. However, considering that Michael Hayes has more of an 'old-school' state of mind, he often clashed with Goldstein. Hayes eventually got him fired and pushed him out the door. Backstage, many people are surprised and upset about this. If the replacement for Goldstein isn't someone who can take Hayes' dictations and format, then you could be seeing a dip in the show quality of SmackDown!. But on the hiring side -- they supposedly hired Ace Steel and Cassidy Riley. -
Happy birthday, Mr. Running to lose weight as I eat everything that isn't nailed down in order to gain more. (I swear -- hovering at 150 for over a year now is getting to me, so I followed suit with the exercise regime and started to do more weight training and more eating to put on some muscle mass) Here's to many more!

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Monty Brown debuted on ECW tonight. The Pounce got a huge reaction and looked good. Oh yeah, and his name is Marquis Colbon in the E. Not sure why they can't use Monty Brown. Oh jeez. I heard the show was pretty bad. Then again, any show where Test is a main eventer is bound to be bad. ::shudder:: Pops in some more ROH DVD's. On another note, who is everybody's Rumble pick? I think I may have to go with Taker. Just a shot in the dark.
