  1. Love seeing Collins come in at #5. I'm sure most publications will knock him further down the list, but having an offensive weapon at catcher is such a bonus. His ceiling is above Dunning and probably Cease for me so I like that you guys sort of went out on a limb and put him at 5. Expecting big things out of him and Rutherford this year. Don't think we've seen the real player out of either of them yet.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 03:37 PM) Jerry Crasnick‏Verified account @jcrasnick 2h2 hours ago Jerry Crasnick Retweeted Shane Thyssen I had indications from a couple of places that something might be happening, but #Brewers are juggling a lot of scenarios. They've been in on Yu Darvish and Lorenzo Cain as well, and I know they've been working hard on trade possibilities. Sorry if I got people's hopes up. Well then I guess the Brewer's "insider" is somewhat validated? Even if it doesn't include the Sox as a trade partner, I'm glad Brew Crew are actively trying to get better rather than take the slow route to rebuilding when you have a competitive team in place already.
  3. To me, I would love to get Yelich and I have stated I would not be opposed to including Hansen as a centerpiece in a deal so long as he's viewed as a premium prospect. Hansen, Rutherford and a mid teen prospect. Preferably not Adolfo. I really think the Marlins will want a depth package for Yelich. Doesn't really make sense to ask for Acuna because they obviously won't get anything of value beyond that. 5 years of Yelich vs 6 or 7 years of Acuna doesn't really change the Marlins position. But 12 years of two A/B prospects and 12 years of a 2 B/C prospect makes much more sense.
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:47 AM) 1 and 2 hard pass, Hansen is close to being considered an untouchable prospect for the White Sox. 2 is fireable in my opinion, how is Zack Collins a fourth piece in a trade? I would not feel great about any of these deals I'd agree, I don't think I'd make any of those deals. More so because I'd rather focus on quality than quantity. I have no problem dealing Hansen for Yelich - but it's got to be the understanding that he's a headliner and not a second piece. He's on his way to being a top 30 prospect by midseason with a good first half in AA. For me - Hansen, Rutherford, Adams for Yelich.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:29 AM) listening to the Garfein podcast, Phil Rogers is ready to unload the farm for Yelich. Some things never change I'm going to listen to it in a bit. Seemed really strange to have a podcast about it? Obviously slow news period for the Sox but still.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:20 AM) I don't think anything major like a trade would be held up for Soxfest, but over the years, they have made some signings lining up with the event. Kenny Lofton, AJP, and a few others. I know Iguchi was rumored and I think it happened just a couple of days after it. I remember KW in a seminar speaking about him without mentioning him. It was obvious he knew he was coming. But it does add a bit of flair to the festivities. Where they are at right now, who knows, maybe some interesting name reclimation project/flip candidate would be announced. Interesting! You are definitely right about AJP. He signed on 1/6/05 and the Sox put out a press release the next day that he was coming to SoxFest. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/press...sp&c_id=cws
  7. Also - is it a little bit concerning that our 2017 2nd rounder is in the top 10? That's like the old days when whoever the Sox drafted automatically made the top 5 prospects. More of a sign that BA likes Sheets or that BA doesn't think our system is as strong as some of us think?
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 10:18 AM) Me too, but even that may require using prospects to for urgent additions. Need to have some guys underneath that are attractive. Really, as ever, we need some latam guys to explode. BA's "weaknesses" of the Sox Farm system is pretty comical. And I don't even necessarilly agree with it.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) Given that Salazar is at his low point and Avi is at his high point I'd probably look for 1 more piece coming back, like whoever the Indians drafted in the 3rd round last year or something like that, but on paper that's a reasonable match. Gets us several years of control out of it. That makes sense - I'd probably do it straight up, but I obviously won't complain about another prospect. From the Indians perspective, not sure it makes 100% sense. They could use Salazar in the pen this season and then protect themselves in case one or both of Miller and Allen leave next offseason. They do need another bat in the OF though most likely and RH bat fits well with all the lefties they have - Brantley, Chisenhall, Almonte, Zimmer.
  10. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 01:47 PM) If the White Sox make a major move I would think it would happen before Soxfest which is in 2 weeks. I'm hoping something is done to make this team better for the 2018 season and beyond. I remember alot of posters saying the same thing about Quintana last year. Just don't think the team operates like that. But would make for a fun SoxFest.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 12:12 PM) I have a deep affinity for pro ball player for pro ball player trades so the answer is yes. I feel better about flipping Salazar for prospects than Avi. Salazar could also end up being a new wade davis. I agree, if the Sox got him, I'd put him in the pen and let him have the 8th and then proceed to the 9th if he can handle it.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 11:55 AM) https://theathletic.com//202710/2018/01/04/...s/?redirected=1 In this, and don't ask me to send you screenshots, Rosenthal says Indians are still interested in moving salazar who has 3 years left. I've always loved salazar. I have no idea what a guy like him would require to get. He needs to get healthy, we get pitchers healthy (not named Rodon). Basically, I think yesterday was the most exciting thing that will happen before soxfest, so, yay or nay, would you give up anything for a 28 year old starting pitcher with 3 years left if his name is Danny Salazar. You could probably buy him at his low point right now, right? I'd imagine Indians would be looking for big league help and they could likely use an OF. Would you do an Avi for Salazar deal? Hope to get Salazar right and if so either extend him or trade him. If Salazar got healthy and good, he'd probably bring back more than Avi in a deadline deal. I think if the price was prospects, I'd have to pass on anything in our top 10-12.
  13. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-trade-rumors-n...-181208370.html "Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto are likely on the move this offseason and the Nationals are in on the sweepstakes. They may even be trying to land both players in a single deal. According to MLB.com, the Nationals are trying to acquire one or the other to upgrade their roster and would be open to acquiring both in a mega-deal." This is going to get old quick - seems like a new report every day that teams are talking to Marlins about either one or both.
  14. I've seen it mentioned that if Moustakas doesn't like the market now, he might sign a 1 year 17-18M deal and try again next offseason. If that's the case, no draft pick would be forfeited right?
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 12:03 PM) The horror. The Sox would be a lock to sign Machado. With Moustakas, there is no chance. Whether it is true or not, or he is trying to ride on the coattails of the article on espn.com yesterday is anyone's guess. But there isn't a ton of downside here. Banking on Machado is foolish. There's a better chance the Bulls get Lebron. Donaldson could be great, but he will cost a lot more and be a couple of years older. Moustakas hurt his knee in 2016. It hurt his defense last year, which hurt his overall WAR, but he's a pretty good player with a ton of power and bats LH (Lillian would approve). The market may have made his price come down to the point it makes sense for the White Sox. Of course if you sign him, you have to be ready to compete in 2019. Agreed, banking on Machado is foolish - I've posted that elsewhere as well. But Machado also wants to play SS again so I don't think this rules it out a run at Machado.
  16. Does it remind anyone of this, minus the crazy leg kick? The load with the hands and the way they arm bar seems similar. Or maybe it's just the shiny white batting gloves.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) I've felt for a month now Yelich will end up here along with Prado. It will clearly require a huge package and think it will be something like Hansen, Collins and Rutherford. Sign me up for that To be able to include Prado should give the Sox a leg up on some other teams - Dodgers, Astros, Rangers - who might be interested. The main competition here might be Braves and Phillies, but since both in NL East maybe that drives their price up too high? Rutherford is interesting because Jeter's right hand man is Gary Denbo who he stole away from the Yankees. Maybe he loves Rutherford and uses him as a headliner? Then again, maybe he doesn't.
  18. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 09:40 PM) This. They're both great players, but it's a bit premature to go out and start trading away assets before you even know what you have in house. Give the kids another year and re-evaluate next offseason when the big FA's are available. I agree in the sense that we want to see what we have in house because that's the most sustainable way towards winning but you could theoretically say that Yelich is like any prospect we have since the years of control are about as long. And I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket and say "We'll get a few of the big FA's next year or Arenado in 2019." First, besides Harper and Machado, you're looking at a bunch of 30+ year old vets and trying to figure out who's going to be productive in their mid 30's is fool's gold. I love Donaldson, Pollock, Blackmon as much as anyone but signing two of them gets a little risky. If you trade for Yelich and then sign one of them it might be easier to stomach. Secondly, I've mentioned this in another thread, but if you look through FG's annual trade value series, there are only a couple of cost-controlled position players that make sense in a trade - Yelich and Conforto. These opportunities to grab a young player like this don't come around too often. At the right cost, this make alot of sense to me.
  19. Also - I wonder if a Marlins rebuild might focus on acquiring depth rather than stars. The Sox more or less had to sell the fan base on a rebuild and targeted top-end prospects in most of their deals - probably except for Eaton but I don't think we could have expected Robles in return. The Marlins won't have this issue. Their fans already know this is a rebuild. A Marlins rebuild might look more like the Padres - trade some veterans for depth and scour the international FA market to build a really deep system. Not saying the Marlins won't want Eloy or Kopech, but they might be open to three or four guys rather than just one. The Ozuna trade kind of gives off that vibe too.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) Sox may be playing a bit of the Braves last year. Didn't seem like they were ready but were still putting offers together for each big trade candidate. And like the Yankees as well - they were in on alot of trade candidates last couple years even though they were in a "rebuild" period. The Sox have a few untouchable prospects IMO - Moncada, Jiminez and Kopech. Everyone else should be on the table if it betters your long-term future. The Yankees similarly are keeping Torres off limits in just about any trade. They seemed to have the same mindset with Frazier last year but the Stanton deal changes that.
  21. I absolutely want the Sox to try to sign Machado or Harper but it's still more of a longshot considering the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox will be in on them. Which is exactly why Sox should be trading for someone like Yelich -i.e. a cost-controlled position player - that they can plug into their lineup as a certainty for 6-7 years. Considering the (likely) possibility of not signing a stud FA, I'd rather the Sox were proactive in acquiring young cost-controlled star talent rather than be left holding the bag next December/January and trying to find second tier free agents to spend on just to spend. Obviously, the cost has to be taken into consideration (no Eloy, Kopech, Moncada). In looking at FG's annual "Trade Value" series, only two position players stick out as possible candidates (i.e. a seller would be willing to trade them) - Yelich and Michael Conforto. I wonder if up and coming young stars are going to start waiting on signing that early contract like Harper, Machado, Correa, Betts, Lindor, Bryant, Seager did/are doing because they'll see the crazy amount of money they can get if they wait. This would make it harder for Sox or any other team to try to acquire talent cheaply.
  22. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Rutherford isn't top 100 and I'd be surprised if Hansen isn't top 50 I'm admittedly a Rutherford fan and liked the trade from the get-go so I will stick up for him. I am a sucker for the good-contact good OBP profile since the system has lacked it for a while. And then when the power comes he's going to rocket back up the rankings. I'd imagine he's still on some top 100 lists, maybe not all of them.
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) I don't think that package comes close to getting it done. Substitute Robert for Rutherford and it may get done, but even then it still feels light (probably need a better second piece than Cease). But yeah although I was initially in favor of it I'll pass. Maybe after next year if Yelich is still on the market. I floated a Hansen + Rutherford package in another thread which I think is a good start. Depending on the rankings that come out, these guys could both be top 75 prospects heading into next season. I know Hansen might be off limits for people but Yelich would be tough to pass up. I'd be in favor of bringing in a cost-controlled star particularly position players because I just don't see Sox being able to bring in the top FA's. Yes we'll have the money, but do players really want to come here? And don't forget, Sox have two top 50 picks in next draft that will help offset the loss of any prospects traded this season. Not to mention maybe dealing Avi, trading for Kemp and prospects etc.
  24. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) I'd imagine more at the deadline as teams get more desperate to win. or see there window as winning now I'd have to think more as well but I'm conflicted - but recent players (Darvish and JD Martinez) dealt for half of a season have come with varying prices. JD had his red flags - health and no defense - so I would expect Machado to fetch the Darvish package or more.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 18, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) Pretty sure the Marlins would hang up the phone if that was your offer. Rutherford is coming off a down season and Fulmer's status as a prospect has definitely dropped, while Cease is a higher risk prospect due to his injury history. Compare that to the offer the Sox got for Eaton. Yelich is probably a bit better and signed to a very, very similar contract. I don't see any way the Sox could acquire Yelich without first having to include one of their untouchable prospects. I like Yelich quite a bit, but it just doesn't seem like the right fit at the moment. Perhaps next offseason when the Sox have a clearer picture of the future if the Marlins haven't dealt him by then. I initially threw out the Fulmer idea - but you are right in that his stock has fallen and for good reason. Got a bit carried away there. But I do disagree on Rutherford. I think in the fans' minds that his stock has fallen - he gets a bad rap here on Soxtalk. Still a young player with a bright future. If he reaches his potential, he could end up like a Yelich type player. We won't know what some of these guys will be ranked exactly before the season, but Hansen and Rutherford could find themselves in the top 75, maybe top 50 if you squint hard enough. Hansen + Rutherford would be a good start to a package and then you can go from there. Surely beatable but also could be a steep price to pay for another team. Unfortunately, it's a long shot to expect one of the top FA's to choose the Sox next season. They'll have the money to spend but still might not be enticing enough when the offers will all be ridiculous from other teams as well. I think a young cost controlled position player is something the Sox should be targeting - cash in a few of these chips (not the big ones) for a steady player, possible All-Star. Maybe it helps bring some credibility to FA's next offseason.
