Sept 1 roster expansion

Featured Replies

This could be interesting. I wonder if the Sox put off roster expansion with Charlotte having a shot at the playoffs.

Be pretty ridiculous and undeserved to make the playoffs at 14 games under but rules are rules and they may be there. I guess anything can happen in the playoffs though.

Merkin has said they will likely promote 1 or 2 guys tomorrow, but leave some in Charlotte for their playoffs and bring them up a week or so later. Given the team is out of the hunt in Chicago, might as well give some guys some post-season experience in AAA.

I'd really like to see Coats get a legit look. Given the lack of talent in our organization, we definitely need to see if there's any chance Jason is part of the long-term puzzle. Doubtful, but better than giving Shuck & Avi more at-bats.

I'd expect to see Coats, Garcia, Smith, and Purke up. Hopefully the Sox give Minaya and Goldberg a look too. Nothing really exciting. I hope they pass on Burdi this year and let him try to make it out of ST. No reason to rush him to the majors.

I agree, but knowing this organization, he'll be here.

So they're not going to bring back Fulmer up to start in Ranaudo's spot?

Sigh.

Maybe he legitimately is better off in a "real" playoff race than pitching in expanded roster games in September. Of course, the Tigers and Royals are battling for a wild card spot and Cleveland has to maneuver for best possible record, so "overexposing" him as a starter to fellow AL Central teams might not be advantageous. And the Twins have a pretty explosive line-up, although they struggle to drive in RISP.

Flip a coin on what is ultimately best.

Me too. Coats was hitting better when they sent him down.

Haven't seen Leury in 2 years...see if he can be a utility player for next year. Not sure any real prospects need to come up except maybe Fulmer for a couple of starts.

Surprised that these 2 aces in the front office couldn't move out any more of the riff raff in August. (well not really surprised)

Fullmer has been working as a reliever you just don't start throwing 6 innings instead of one. I really think he should work on his delivery.

No such thing. If you ask anyone if they'd rather come up to the Majors for a month or play in a minor league playoff game, 9 out of 10 would rather spend a month in the majors.

The Sox like to put their top guys into playoff situations. They do it often.

Are you being sarcastic or do you mean at the minor league level??
