New Top 30 INTL Prospects List out from MLB

Two weeks to go!!!

Cuban connection

Cuban outfield prospect Luis Robert, 19, ranked no. 1 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 30 International Prospects list for the 2016-2017 signing period, was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball on April 20 and will become eligible to sign with a Major League team on May 20.

Should Robert not sign before June 15, the end of the current international signing period for which he qualifies, the teenager will eligible to sign during the next signing period that starts July 2 and move to the top of the Top 30 International Prospects list for 2017-2018.

Per the current signing rules, Cuban players age 23 or older with at least five years of playing experience in Serie Nacional are not subject to the international signing guidelines. Robert does not qualify for the exemption because of his age and his experience.

There's a Garcia on the list so there's hope the Sox can land someone since they seem to be collecting Garcia's.

27 of the top 30 are committed already. None of them are committed to White Sox and that's another sign that Luis Robert is a very real possibility. If they miss on him, they are pretty much out of the market in 2017-2018. It would be really disappointing.

Unless ohtani(sp) comes over... Then we would be in perfect position to land him.

Feels like the white sox are doing the equivelant of "burn the ships" with INTL FA spend this year. "We have to spend on Robert or Otani or else we will have signed no one else!"

Yeah if they don't sign Robert and have no commitments in the next signing period, it'd almost seem like they have to sign Otani.

This is the White Sox we're talking about. They'd just as happy to sign a bunch of kids in the top 30-100 range and hope more than a few of them breakout. In fact I'd say 70% chance they go that route, 20% go all out for Robert, and 10% for Otani.

I think last year they signed #31, #35, and #38, or something like that. They did spend all but about a million dollars during that.

They didn't have $4.75 million to spend last year though. They also didn't have the capabilities of spending $8 million like they do now.

They are going all out for Robert. This has been reported by multiple outlets.

It is hard to quantify what dollars mean this year until we see the new system in action. There are going to be teams who have to turn away former agreements because they won't be able to sign the class they had thought they were going to be able to sign. Others will be able to sign more people than they thought.

27/30 of the perceived top guys have agreements. If the Sox weren't in on Robert, I would expect to see their name attached to some of that top 30. Especially while rebuilding and being giving the ability to spend more $$.

Most of those deals were agreed to before the decision to rebuild took place. It also doesn't mean that they don't have other agreements in place that fall into the Josue Guerrero category.

I will believe it when I see it. I am sure they're in the running, but will most likely end up getting outbid and signing a bunch of lower ranked kids as a fallback. I hope I'm wrong here but I think that's how it will play out.

Sox or Cardinals for Robert. The Rowand guarantee is always right!

*Disclaimer...the Rowand guarantee is almost never right.

I'm sure we can save a spot for you in the Soxtalk mount rushmore of failed guarantees, next to Steve and J4L

You mean we aren't enjoying the Miami Heat's 7th straight title?

The ship has sailed on that, but hey, the Knicks could very well be the best team in the East next year.
