Well, there's two ways of looking at his line-up.

 

Being pleasantly surprised with Avi, Davidson, Leury or Yolmer (still no Tim Anderson)...

 

Or disappointed with Cabrera (602), Frazier (618), Smith (SSS) and Saladino (581).

They really would have been better off dumping Cabrera in the offseason.

 

As it stands, they're going to have to eat quite a bit of salary now. It's not like they were going to get much back, but wasting that money stings.

Didn't realize Pujols was only 4 homers away from 600. Wouldn't count on him getting to 700. 660's going to be a stretch (Mays), but that contract almost forces him to hold on.

 

Just looked it up and he's still under that 10 year deal for FOUR more years, 2018-2021. UGLY.

They both had a significant injury to their feet that robbed them of much of his ability to use their legs in hitting. this precipitated the downward spiral.

I see your point but don't go too far with it.

 

For his age 31-36 seasons (2011-2016), Pujols had 3770 PAs where he hit .272 with an OPS of .817. And that mostly came from the first two years, as he hasn't put up an .800+ OPS since 2012.

 

For the same age (1999-2004), Frank hit .285 with an OPS of .939. He had an .800+ OPS in each season except for his injury shortened 2001. Also, in the age 37-39 seasons, he had an OPS of .891 in 1307 PAs.

 

The "Frank Thomas decline" is bulls***, and only even seems like a decline when compared to his 1991-1997 seasons, which were on par with Ted Williams.

Chavez is away, away, away to righties and Sox hitters look clueless.
