Draft position be damned, I hope this team goes on a run during the second half.  Would be nice to have some momentum heading into the offseason.

If any team could pull this move off and not ruin their rebuild it’s the Padres.  Their system is completely bonkers.  I still don’t think know is the right time for them to do something this, but add

1000% agree with this.   Time for this team to start winning, fueled of course by the new, young core.

Him & Anderson developing into above average players would help the rebuild tremendously.

I'm not sure what we need to add in the off-season to have a chance to compete next year (I don't think we will anyways). But the line up really doesn't look that bad in reality.

C-Omar/Smith, 1B- Abreu, 2B- Moncada, SS- Anderson, 3B- Sanchez (or FA), LF- Jimenez, CF- L. Garcia (or FA), RF- Avi, DH- Davidson/Palka/Nicky (or FA)

I think the SP is the big question but if we can add a 3B or CF & Omar keeps hitting close to what he has been the offense will be pretty good. But maybe I am being too optimistic

As much as I’d love that extra year of control, I feel like they’re both coming up in the coming weeks and we might as well hope they help this team win some games.

obviously the cuban links is the key to omar's success.

This is why they should bring up Kopech and Jimenez after the TDL if they have spots open for them. If they could really get going in August and September, especially with the strides Giolito and Rodon are making, they could then attempt to convince either Machado or Harper to come here and actually have a compelling argument that they are a team on the rise. Do I think either will come here? No. I do expect them to try. Once Eloy and Kopech come up, the tank is off and it is time to pick up real wins, and not ones of the tank variety. I don't think even if they perform well in August and September they aren't going to be anywhere  close to out of the top 10, so they shouldn't have to worry about losing a 1st rounder if they become so lucky as to convince Machado or Harper to come here.

I know it’s a long-shot, but I hope they take a real shot at Machado & Harper.  If you miss on those guys, maybe look at a veteran CF, 3B, or 1B/DH on a short term deal.  There is the makings of a pretty good offense if they keep Abreu & Avi and make the right additions.

Pitching will have question marks, but I still think I’d start the season with a rotation of Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, and either Covey or Stephens.  Add veteran reliever or two to stabilize the bullpen, but otherwise roll with a young staff and wait for the next wave of guys (Cease, Dunning, Hansen, etc) to serve as reinforcements.

How does an easy victory even work?

Anderson’s bad BABIP luck is hopefully starting to normalize.

We have plenty of young bullpen pieces that are close in the minors, I'm not too worried about it maybe add a guy. The rotation is young with a lot of upside but could also be below average. I would like to add a vet on a 2 or 3 year deal that is a solid 2 or 3 in the rotation, if we aren't competing maybe flip him at the deadline.

lol. Don't speak too soon. When the Sox play the Angels they seem to give the Halos grief each and every time. I'm not complaining, I love it actually. Been that way since 05.Where's Doug Eddings when you need him?

I think they should pick up some guys on 1-2 year deals that they can flip when prospects are ready, regardless of W-L record, should they strike out on Machado/Harper.

I’m not against it necessarily, just feel like we’d be better off giving our young arms a chance in 2019 and add a veteran starter before the 2020 if needed.

I may sound like a broken record in these game threads but I am so, unbelievably, indescribably, beyond tired of Adam Engel

Of course Engel doesn't even try.

Ryan Cordell really blew the opportunity of a lifetime.

I guess I just want to compete so bad lol. We see glimpses here and there, hopefully with a full year Lopez & Gio will be more consistent next year

Can they please just start Leury in centerfield for the foreseeable future and be done with the Engel experiment?  Enough already.

We can thank Cordell's collarbone for Engel's presence on the MLB roster. I can't stand his noodle arm in CF, either, he has great range in CF and that is his only asset.

Castillo will be back at catcher with omar

Hopefully cordell will show something the rest of the season to be the cf next year.

Trust me, I want the same thing and wouldn’t be against it.  And I think if we can somehow add Machado or Harper, then we probably have to add a starter and be a bit more aggressive plugging holes.  Ultimately I’m open to anything this offseason that doesn’t cost us our prospect currency or jeopardize our financial flexibility.  We should be saving our chips for true impact players.

Totally forgot about Castillo, he only has a month until he is back

It’s truly mind boggling.  I actually think Leury has looked just as good out in CF with the glove too.

Almost thought I was watching the Cubs game with all the loud cheering for a routine fly ball.
