Dump Ryan Cordell

Featured Replies

Cordell's batting average has dropped to .048.  He has failed to alter his approach and instead just swings wildly at every pitch.  The Sox cannot afford to keep trotting him out.  Unless their reason for doing so is to make sure that they can lose as many games as they can to boost their chances fo getting as high a draft pick as they can.

Why can't they afford to? Do these games matter? Is he hurting attendance? Is he taking playing time away from a young player who needs a chance?

The Sox are going to have to make some tough decisions as to who makes the 40-man roster.  They're playing Cordell so much to prove the fact that he has no MLB future.

Bingo!  You can play your way on (Palka) and off of the 40 man roster.

Guys Cordell's age getting their first crack at the major leagues, generally don't have much of a baseball playing future. There are some exceptions, but it doesn't appear he is one at this time. At the very least, his 40 man spot, if needed, is a no brainer. I doubt they would lose him anyways.

Agree.  Every other team is seeing his performance, or lack thereof.  Nothing that he is doing would make anyone jump and say, "I gotta have him."

"Cordell's batting average has dropped to .048"

...in, wait for it... 22 plate appearances. That's about 5 full game's worth. For a guy who missed the majority of 2018 to injury, barely got his feet back under him before he got here, and has never played in the majors before. Are you serious with this?

Besides, as others point out, they need to make a 40-man decision and he's a fringe case. The smartest thing to do is keep playing him, both for evaluation and his development. Dropping him right now makes zero sense.

I think Cordell will get a chance to win the CF job in spring training. But he also falls in line with the Delmonico types who I could see being cleared off the 40-man with a trade for PTBNL type of move.

Afford?  Lol.  They can afford to put a A ball team out there right now.  Losing is more important than winning.

Cordell hasn't been good in his limited chances, but I assume he has at least 1 option left so he'll be around for a bit still.

If you think this is bad, the Moncada thread started due to his .154 batting average... on April 5th.

Adam Engel is the CFer I think. Cordell might be in AAA again working on stuff

Realistically, Cordell is on the outside looking in.  The only reason he is here now is because of injuries and the expanded roster.

Seriously, the amount of time a couple of people are spending upset about Ryan Cordell is an astounding waste of time.
