Saw three movies while on vacation. Barely get to one a year recently.

Mortal Kombat 2 - I really liked it. Surprised by how much I’ve liked both installments.

Masters of the Universe - Thoroughly enjoyed it, and surprisingly so did my kid. I was never a big fan of the cartoon, remembered the toys more than the show. Entertaining Summer movie.

Mandalorian - Felt like a longer episode of the show. Not nearly enough plot or buildup for a future franchise. Entertaining enough, but left me pretty disappointed because this was the movie I was actually looking forward to. Went to the first two movies above as spur of the moment decisions, so didn’t really have expectations.

Also loved MOTU and MK2. I felt MK2 really nailed the fights, and didn’t care who lived or died, and it made the movie so much better

MOTU was just a trip and they figured out covering Leto up and changing his voice is the best way to deal with him lol

A lot are complaining about the over the top jokes/humor and existential mental crisis moments...but those were some of the best elements of He-Man.

What most struck me was a pretty crazy transition for lead Galzitine from an Anne Hathaway romantic comedy.

And you can never go wrong with Idris Elba action flicks dating back to Pacific Rim.

Btw where was Mummra the Everliving lol?

As to your other points, Idris Elba is great in everything. And the jokes…well some of them were definitely inappropriate for kids. Good thing mine are too young to understand them.

Yea Mumm-Ra is thundercats. They gotta get off the ground before that crossover happens

I thought it was funny that they made him a really good HR rep because it basically gives you a good reason to make him to those PSA’s that you would see him do in the cartoon.

I also enjoyed that all of the character names were given by Adam as a kid and they don’t like the names at all lol

Getting swept away by two buzzy Gen Z horror movies won't help.

Then Spielberg will take over box office this weekend as well.

Will have to survive by word of mouth/pay per view/international...but isn't well known property at all in places like China.

Only one other theatregoer when I went. So will likely be out of cinemas after just one week.

Obsession was a pretty damn good horror movie. A predictable plot and story as old as time but the jump scares, creepiness, and practical effects/gore were great.

Someone must have seen Spider Man?

Thought it was better overall and a bit more emotional than expected...had some of the same themes as Toy Story 5 about real life friendships and isolation/technology.

A little Bernthal goes a long way, though.

Have to deal with him in Odyssey as well when it debut in China August14th.

Loved the newest spiderman. I have a hard time getting myself to watch odyssey, even though Nolan has been in my top 3 filmmaker list for over 20 years, since seeing Memento in theaters.

One movie that everyone needs to see is GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE.

Really enjoyed Spiderman Brand New day. The emotional weight of everything on Peter was very obvious, they did a great job of showing his grief and sadness. Sadie Sinks character(not saying because people be getting spoiler mad) was sadistic in her anger

I watched this movie after finding it on the high seas this past weekend. As a big comic book fan when I was young, but also as someone who thinks these movies are getting played out and boring, I still thought it was the best movie in the series. At least this and the new Avengers movie will likely be good ones for this year because the DC movies and shows are literally unwatchable crap (far too much forced political agendas), minus maybe Peacemaker which is at least funny.

lol comics were always political, these things aren’t forced. This is what comics always did. Lanterns is really fucking good

Agree to disagree. There has been a ton of backlash about this show due to the comments on racial privilege and characters saying that Hal Jordan is racist. Many articles out there so I won’t bother linking them here. I don’t watch comic book movies and shows to listen to show-runners and writers on either side push their agendas on me. I like crazy super-powered characters, not politics and social rants in my shows.

I’ve watched all four episodes. The backstory around John Stewart’s father showing fear so he was unworthy of a ring was written into the show to further push the racial privilege and racist storyline around Hal Jordan. It was not canon to the comic book. I’m all for artistic license, but when it is used solely to push a show-runner’s or writer’s own agenda, it’s just BS to me.

Perhaps the show will prove out that Hal Jordan is truly not a racist, and the other characters will realize this in the show. But in the comic books, there were Green Lanterns of every race, sex, color, and species. It solely had to do with having no fear.

Meanwhile, the official DC Podcast host has been saying that Hal Jordan is indeed racist in the comic books. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

I have a hard time coming to all of these conclusions you are throwing at me man. Hal did not steal the ring, he was the next choice when Senior was afraid. Hal is a smarmy asshole and always has been, but to me this show is about people being paranoid of their replacement more than any sort of race story. Hal was the one to replace his mentor and now he sees it happening to himself, but he cannot control himself because he is an asshole.

Honestly I don’t care what these rage bait articles say anymore. These shows and movies and meant for interpretation and if that’s all you want to see in this show, I can’t stop that. It’s pretty strange that you have watched all 4 and you are using the comicbookmovie breakdown as a big part of what you are complaining about

For real. If you didn't see it, you didn't want to see it. There were times these dudes were fighting literal Nazis in the 40s. There has always been a polticial undertone for real (not made for TV preening) freedom, anti-facism, and equity in almost all of these.

I’m assuming you made a typo regarding Hal versus John in your first paragraph. I never said that Hal stole the ring. Hal’s father was a test pilot that tragically crashed and burned which shaped Hal’s lack of fear to eventually earn a ring. It was John Stewart’s father that was afraid of the aliens visiting him which is why he was passed over for a ring. However, it is John’s parents that go nuts and practically abuse him as a child (e.g., shooting apples off of his head and making him to do the same to his father, dropping him off in a dangerous neighborhood at night, etc.) to remove any fear from him and ensure that he will ultimately be worthy of a ring.

However, episode 3 heavily infers (through John Stewart’s mother) that Hal was granted a ring due to white privilege and that he could potentially be racist as well. John Stewart also infers that Hal doesn’t deserve the ring and that he’s just holding it for him in episode 4.

But you are right, Hal Jordan’s isn’t a racist, he’s just an asshole that doesn’t want to lose his job as earth’s protector and pass the ring to John. Hopefully, this will somehow be tied back to in the storyline later in the season. Perhaps Hal Jordan somehow proves to John Stewart that he wasn’t just privileged and given the ring and that he in fact deserved it, or maybe he even saves John’s life somehow and proves he isn’t the other thing as well.

John’s parents are psycho with a capital P in this, there is no doubt at all. There is absolutely a racial element to this, but while I can understand it and absorb it you just seem angry at the implication. This show is bringing a lot of complicated issues into its story, some better handled than others. I think Sinestro in his pitiful jailed form has had the best scene in the show so far, he planted seeds in Hal’s head. The things we know right now are purely from Stewart and a little bit of Sinestros side, we know nothing of Hal’s inner motivations except that he is fearless and a prick, and a lot of people are just jumping to define his motivations.

It’s ok to have this racial element in this specific show, John Stewart was a big deal when they made him a lantern in the comics. John is rapidly coming to a point where he has to decide where his loyalties truly lie. And also, he is going to have to come to terms with the fact that he slept with a highly advanced futuristic android

Laura Linneys guardian character definitely has some bullshit she is hiding, and to be honest it feels like John rising up to be this much of a fearless badass surprised her more than anything. Also think those guys that gave John the phone to call are red lanterns, and that’s gonna be bad lol

The one thing throwing me off right now is where is Guy Gardner. I know he is in this show
