We need some surprise performances at the full season ball level this year and also need to start hitting in the draft. Been way too many misses over the past half decade.
March 10, 20206 yr Rays continue to set the industry model for small market clubs. Will be fascinating to see the on field MLB results of the Sox and Padres play out over the next decade...two quite distinctive models for team-building. Padres have traded more guys in the last 18 months than the White Sox have across an entire decade. All the Central teams are doing well in the rankings, minus the Royals (which we will likely end up behind with the graduation of Kopech, unless we have a series of breakouts in our system from unexpected places.) They have lost Friedman (and I am sure he took guys with him to LAD) and Maddon (he was a manager but really got what they wanted to do down there) and they continue to do a fantastic job not only drafting, but finding value in players that no one wants. They have the #1 farm system and have still competed in AL East and WC over the last few years. It is really impressive.

Not to mention losing Chaim Bloom to the Red Sox...so unfortunate they don’t have a decent stadium or enough fan support to appreciate their efforts.

They didn't even do that well in the draft but their international scouting is off the charts.

March 11, 20206 yr Considering the number of graduations the system is still decent. The only bad thing is that a lot of depth has evaporated due to prospects failing to develope or getting injured. In the last 2-3 years a ton of guys who were ranked close to top100 busted or regressed. Sox player dev and medical staff can be blamed for that. Fortunately they seem to be investing more in player dev and sabermetrics now but it is a little late now because there isn't as much high upside talent left to develope. They really would have needed that player dev a year or two ago, maybe then the system now would be deeper.
