Given his innings, probably Kopech

They really need Kopech in the rotation, though, now and in the playoffs. He’s their 3rd best starter after Cease and Cueto.

  • Hahn would love to trade for Rodon. He’s the stock trader who sells at $40 and rebuys at $60.

In this scenario, who do you move to the bullpen? Do they make Lance Lynn the most expensive reliever in MLB?

But you really don't have to.  We have three guys who are still showing signs of injury and fatigue in Kopech and Lynn with their knee problems, and Giolito post covid.  It wouldn't occasionally skip those guys (and really Cueto and Cease couldn't hurt from a few extra days off here and there).  A six man  rotation, or a five man rotation with a floating sixth man to give one person a day off per each rotation round would give a break to the starters without needing to pen someone.

I think Kopech goes to the bullpen for a month or so to limit his innings, but then you want him built back up for the playoffs so at some point, the worse-performing of Lynn or Giolito goes to the pen.

I hate the idea of giving up something of value for someone who's going to be a FA at the end of the season, but on the other hand a playoff rotation of Cease-Rodon-Kopech-Cueto sounds really, really nice.

I’d rather go Montas if they’re going that route (assuming he’s actually healthy). At least you get him for next season too. Of course, Castillo would have been the real gem but that ship has sailed.

So then if they were to have acquired Castillo, who is going in the bullpen?

Not interested in anybody that can't fucking spell Michael correctly.

This.  He should sue his mother.
