October 28, 200322 yr Why in gods name would you trade our best player, Magglio f***in Ordonez? MERCY!
October 28, 200322 yr Beastly, while I usually give you the benefit of the doubt, please stop making new threads that have already been covered numerous times and are based on the same basic ideals. If you need clarification on what I mean, contact me on AIM or by PM and I will explain it in a clearer fashion. I think I speak with many of the posters here at Soxtalk by asking for your cooperation in this matter. Thank you sir.
October 28, 200322 yr The White Sox are definitely an offensive juggernaut when they want to be so dealing Magglio could give this team some all around balance.
October 28, 200322 yr two reasons: 1. He is scheduled to make 14 million next year. If the Sox budget is going to be, say, $60 million, it's not prudent to invest nearly 25 percent of your payroll in one guy. 2. He'll be a free agent after next season. We either have to re-sign him for a reasonable amount, deal him or risk getting little more than a draft pick for him if he walks. That's why a decision has to be made on Maggs. Most sensible Sox fans like him and appreciate his contributions. But budgets are budgets.

October 28, 200322 yr Seattle seemed to do well by Trading Griffey, Johnson and letting A-Rod go... They won 116 games the next year. Granted they didn't win the World Series...cough.
October 28, 200322 yr His 14 million could be spent on two or three really good players, or three or four good players. He hasn't put up "difference maker" numbers, and he's never made a huge difference. He's being paid the salary of a "superstar" and an "impact" player - and he doesn't belong on that list, IMO. The only "impact" he made last year was when he grounded into doubleplay after doubleplay to kill big innings. Keep this in mind - Sammy Sosa is making 17 million a year, right? And we would all agree that he's not worth it - not by a long shot. Well, Maggs will only be making 3 million less than that.
October 28, 200322 yr This all has been being discussed on numerous occasions. But, go ahead and keep beating that dead horse if you want to.
October 28, 200322 yr His 14 million could be spent on two or three really good players, or three or four good players. Who gives you the guarantee that this 14 million will be spend on good players??????? You are talking with JERRY REINSDORF!
October 28, 200322 yr in an old school world, I'd keep Maggs in a Sox uni forever. But in today's payroll dictated world, at $14 million, he's become a luxury the Sox cannot afford. I'm convinced that when they gave him the deal, the plan was to move him this season to make room for Borchard. That Plan has been pitched. But at $14 million Maggs is trade bait. Paulie, too.
October 28, 200322 yr Why in gods name would you trade our best player, Magglio f***in Ordonez? MERCY! See cub v. sosa, cash is king and the wrigley blue did not get thome and I-Rod becasue they have $18M tied to the man.
