Konerko contract

Featured Replies

Unless they pay 4-5 million of it, he's not going anywhere.

Paul Konerko 1B CHW Signed Nov 2002 - 3 years/$23M

2003: $6.25M

2004: $8.0M

2005: $8.75M

-2004 & 2005 salaries rise by $0.5M if traded

That really does make me sick. With his performance the last season and a half in a White Sox uniform, I really beleive Paul is actaully stealing money from the Sox. :nono

If he has another year like last year....yes he is.

I don't think he'll get traded, but I got a feelin that if LA misses out on Tejada and doesn't sign any1 big, they might come callin to Konerko to save face a little. THey need a guy at 1st to replace McGriff, and they need some power hitters desperately. But yeah I think we'll definitely hav to pay part of his contract, and this is probably a good reason as to why u shouldn't offer guys more than 3 year contracts.

Those trades that call for paying a portion of the contract usually happen at the July deadline. You are more likely to see a "You take my problem and I'll take yours" type of deal.

What r da possibilities for taking some1 else's problem then. Griffey? Cirillo?

Since July 2002.

PK will make 8 millions! Trade him for minor leaguers, for a bench player or for a manager! With these 8 millions, i think JR would keep Bartolo instead of getting rid of Maggs.

Or Jeff Weaver.

Its not that easy to just trade Konerko. Nobody wants that contract. If the Sox were to trade Konerko they would need to take some other teams problem or pay a part of Konerko's salary.

Or Jeff Weaver.

This is a trade that would allow us live without Colon but this board would probably crucify KW. I really think Weaver could do some damage with us.

With us or to us?

With us or to us?

That, my friends, is the $64,000 question....the guy has issues, not too many people will argue that. We have enough complaints about the clubhouse atmosphere...

Or Jeff Weaver.

I'll take a s***ty for July 2002-June 2003 Konerko over a s***ty for career and extremely over-rated Jeff Weaver. Case closed.

Say what you want about Weaver being overrated but to say he is been s***ty for his whole career is giving him no credit. He has had three years that I would consider to be pretty solid. Season by season stats LINK

It seemed like he was poised to take off and do pretty well before he was traded to the Yanks and then s*** kinda came apart from there.

You see three pretty solid seasons, I see three pretty average ones. Certainly nothing to make me want to pay him $6+ million in 2004 and over $9 million in 2005.

I never said he wasn't overpaid, but he has hardly been s***ty throughout his career.

He's bordered on s***ty. Those "solid" years you were talking about were pretty average if you ask me. He has never been "good" for any extended period of time. At best, he was a decent pitcher that showed promise for a bad team. At best.

Do you guys think the sox do not remember not being able to sign weaver out of the draft? boras is his agent and we could not sign him, so he ended up in detroit... we dont need his crap

Me and you have a difference of opinion on s***ty  ;)

I guess so, but for three years before he got dealt to New York Weaver was a decent pitcher who looked to be turning the corner. Once he went to NY, yes I agree with you killa he has been s***ty.

"looked to be" being the key words........ perhaps he was just at his career best then? Is that possible?

His hit to IP ratio was never great. His BB/K ratio and BB/IP ratio were never great. They weren't bad, but nothing, when combined with his H/IP ratio, to make me think he was destined for greatness. Especially since he always had trouble getting lefties out.

I would trade Konerko for Weaver, just because I'd rather gamble on pitching than hitting. They're both inconsistent, although Konerko seems to be a 'tougher player' than Weaver. I don't think the Yankees would do it though. When they increase salary it will be with players that are more of a sure thing for productivity than Konerko. If he had a three month slump in New York he would be finished there. As always, I'll state that I like Konerko, but his slumps make me nervous.

I think trading Konerko for Weaver would be one helluva gamble. One that could go either way. Konerko could rebound to be the hitter he was the first half of '02 or he could just struggle from here on out. Weaver, on the other hand, could just be one of those pitchers that can't handle the New York media glare, but would be a decent #4 somewhere else. Or, he could just totally suck from now on. The difference being, that Weaver supposedly was despised by his Tiger teammates. That has nothing to do with New York. PK is a pretty decent guy in the clubhouse, from what I understand.

If we trade Magglio Ordonez, then we HAVE to keep Paul Konerko. The White Sox are required to have at least one player hit into 30 DP's a year, or we get contracted. :lolhitting

I used to want Weaver, but I've really changed my mind. He's a headcase, he's a loudmouth, he's a punk, and he's a very mediocre pitcher at this point.
