Renteria was never going to lead the White Sox to a title. He did his job developing and getting them to the playoffs.

It isnt soxtalks fault that the White Sox’s owner needed to replace him with pale empty husk of a coach.

No it isn't. But sometimes careful what you wish for

  • They are so close to competing in 2024. Getz just has to get 24 players.

When Renteria was here. The team played for him.

  • What has Grifol done to deserve another season? This team is obviously lying when they say they think they can compete next season. If they really thought that, there is no way they would be brin

Maybe he's not good. Just more false hype we've been fed.

There Is No Such Thing As a Pitching Prospect.

Not that i agree with that sentiment, but then fact is that arms fade, and you’re far less likely to have continued success as a starting pitcher as opposed to basically any other position.

Kopech may just be an arm that fades (loses velocity) that belongs in the ‘pen, or a headcase that needs to be cut loose. Either way, I’m chalking him up as a failed starter that we need to move on from. These things just happen.

…so the organizational failure in Kopech’s case was a broader failure in failing to develop a pipeline of starters

It also did not help that they put him in the bullpen in 2021 when his arm and body needed consistency and innings following a multi year layoff. This is also something they’ve done several times which contributes to the leaky pipeline.

True, though that was also a bit of a weird circumstance with COVID, injury (2019), and lockout.

The fact that it was so weird is why putting him in the bullpen in 2021 was such a high risk move. He clearly benefited from building up innings in 2017 and 2018 as his control improved with extra work. Then, when we had the chance to get him more work in 2021, we declined. The possible downside of that was a guy who couldn’t find control, and that’s exactly what we have now.
