Sox to Pursue DeJong per Sox Machine

I fully expect a middle infield of Lopez and Dejong next year.

Get ready for Benetti every single game “DeJong an Illinois State Redbird and Lopez a Naperville Central Redhawk”

If the idea was to drive fan interest lower than it was when JR spearheaded the strike that took his own team off a WS path, then I would say mission accomplished

One MLB team in Chicago cares about winning and is willing to go all out signing top managerial candidates when they hit the market, while the other either goes dumpster diving for people like Pedro, Tony and Ricky, or they keep it all in the Family and hire Robin and Ozzie from within.

And they do the same dumpster diving when it comes to free agents.

How can you rationalize signing BOTH DeJong and Lopez and not giving Sosa or Rodriguez a shot at at least one of the spots.

It would at least make them (Sosa & Popeye) earn the spot rather than just give it to them, which is different than the previous regime. If Sosa/Popeye are playing well and the placeholders (predictably) stink, then you shuffle them out and let the kids cook. While 100% unsexy additions, I don't mind them insulating the prospects a bit.

Dumpster diving signings galore

From what I have seen of Montgomery, the danger of signing DeJong is Colson beats him out in the spring.  Because of his plate discipline, Montgomery's floor's pretty high.  Not hard to see him hitting .220 and still being way better than DeJong.  As far as Popeye and Sosa are concerned, their complete inability to control the strike zone may be a no no to the new regime. The last thing the Sox need is more guys who won't take a walk.

That's the White Sox way. Waste millions of dollars of retreads, injury-prone stiffs and has-been's but when it comes to nabbing a game changer, a superstar (Hello: Bryce Harper...) no...can't do that! ?
