Sox to Pursue DeJong per Sox Machine

Featured Replies

The fact that DeJong had a higher wRC+ than TA after DeJong went 12 for 93 after being traded is...telling.

BARF

I fully expect a middle infield of Lopez and Dejong next year.

??

Just let Sosa or Rodriguez play

AVERAGING a 0.5 fWAR over the FOUR previous seasons.   Guess you could round up to 0.6 or 0.7 because of limited Covid year opportunities.

Middle infielders reaching or approaching the wrong side of 30.

He is what it says on the back of his baseball card.   Below-average veteran.

Brilliant.

At least he played solid defense in the past

Can they bring back Jimmy Rollins and Brett Lawrie?

He would be a good placeholder for Montgomery.  Can move to second or utility when that happens.

Yeah. Guys there isn’t a single offensive upgrade, but DeJong is a strong defender. And he’s tall. May be a good influence for uh…a tall SS coming up.

but also he’ll be like barely a $3M deal. If you were worried about quixotic spending to doom this should alleviate you.

How can you rationalize signing BOTH DeJong and Lopez and not giving Sosa or Rodriguez a shot at at least one of the spots.

It's a guess, but a good one.

When you need 2 or 3 middle infielders and are desperate to improve you defense... that doesn't leave many options.

Why don’t they have a shot? DeJong isn’t going to earn much more than minor league signing

Love this front office that knows what they are doing

Pretty sure my reaction to every signing or rumored interest is going to be ?

Least compelling offseason in a long time

DeJong is an alum of Antioch High School. Go Sequoits!! Never realized that TA was THAT bad.

Look at everything through the lens of "Pedro hates rookies"

If the idea was to drive fan interest lower than it was when JR spearheaded the strike that took his own team off a WS path, then I would say mission accomplished

Isn’t it great that he gets to help Colson along in his debut

I look forward to Colson Montgomery being chewed out for an error.

For all the s%*# they got, it feels like Robin and Ricky were the only two managers in recent memory that were chill with rookies. The big, big exceptions for Ozzie being Jenks and Beckham.

Viciedo really had issues....same with Brian Anderson.

Rowand/Crede 2-3 years to get established.

Avisail Garcia bounced so many directions after promising debut in Detroit.

Listen I know you all hate him but his height is really impressive!

You’re stopgap until Monty is ready. At least he plays solid defense. Sad thing is his production would be a huge upgrade compared to the shitshow we watched last year.
