January 31, 20242 yr Questions remain in their rotation and outfield, but the Padres have spent the past two months fortifying their bullpen in a big way. They continued to do so on Wednesday, when they agreed to a four-year contract with lefty reliever Wandy Peralta, sources told MLB.com. The club has not yet confirmed the deal, which is pending a physical. The contract contains opt-outs for Peralta after each season. The 32-year-old Peralta is coming off the best season of his eight-year career, having posted a 2.83 ERA and 1.4 WAR with 51 strikeouts across 54 innings for the Yankees.

They simply can't afford to go with Jose Azocar or Jakob Marsee... Heck, their fans were upset when Hicks ended up with the Angels, they're THAT desperate for MLB outfielders. (Were even looking at bringing back Profar after his season in Colorado.) They still need at least ONE more veteran signing to fill out the back end of the rotation...that's a given. Then a massive fight for #5 with internal options. Also need to strengthen their bench and find one more corner OF/DH/1B type. Carpenter and Cruz killed them last year at 1B/DH, fwiw, along with Cronenworth having a really down year after signing that $100+ million contract. Gary Sanchez filled in admirably but they're moving on with all the at-bats going to Campusano and Higashioka/Sullivan.

Wandy Peralta had a 1.4 fWAR last season, is a solid reliever. Some here like discussing trade rumors and such, whereas others like discussing actual deals.

Sox with 5, but Montgomery pushed way down compared to Salas/Merrill and sporting #18/#20 system rankings so far.
